What made you smile today?

Hi Slosh,
I even impressed myself with the jam making! The trouble is that I'm supposed to be losing weight so I shouldn't really eat it myself.
Well done for finding another craft/ hobby which you enjoy. You must be very pleased to be asked to do the Christmas fairs.0 -
I know what you mean about jam, I'm sure it's adictive, I don't allow myself to buy it because if it's in the house I'll eat it. Perhaps you could package it up prettily and give it as presents. He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Today I bumped into one of my mothers (for many years I was a private tutor for dyslexics, I tutored her, her son and her daughter). Her son has just graduated with a good degree in law, the daughter is tackling GCSEs with her usual laissez-faire attitude to things and Mum came back to ours for a cuppa: it turns out we live in her favourite house on this road! She'd seen the garden a few years ago during an open garden day in the area but wasn't allowed indoors - today she was and wants first refusal if we decide to sell up: she'll have a very long wait. It was lovely to catch up with all the news, the years fell away and giggles ruled the roost. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I love this thread. Thanks, Joan.
Yesterday I saw the foot care nurse who, basically, cuts my toe nails. She spied something on one of the toes that could be a melanoma so referred me instantly to the podiatrist today.Beforehand I asked Mr SW if he'd mind helping me wash my feet under the shower.
He: Do you need to.?
Me: Of course.
He: Well she'll only be looking at one foot.
(Grudgingly, he washed both. The chances of it being a melanoma are extremely slight.)If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Yesterday as I walked to work, a young man passed pushing his little boy, about 2, on a tricycle (one of those with the long handle). The little one was singing away very happily.
Then I went to the supermarket and there was a dad who had his little boy, about 3, sitting in the trolley. He kept pushing the trolley away from him and pretending he had to run to catch it again. The little lad was laughing his head off. Made me giggle as I followed them round.Christine0 -

I'm so glad that you like it, Slosh.0 -
Today when I was in the lift at the shops, there was a young woman with a beautiful baby boy, only a few months old. He gave me a wonderful smile which completely melted my heart. His little face lit up in response to my voice and smile. Ahhh, I love babies but no longer have any in the family as my grand-daughters are 17, 13 and 11.0

DD It's good to know that children you have tutored are doing so well in life. I'm sure that your help played a big part in their success. Also great to know that your house is so admired and you would have a ready buyer if you ever wanted to move.
SW The foot care nurse did a good job by referring you instantly. I hope that it will prove not to be melanoma.
Washing your feet was the ultimate proof of love and devotion by Mr SW

My son and DH are equally happy about the cricket score, Sticky.
I sat next to a man at the eye clinic today - just me and him - when he leaned across and said 'It's a shame about that door isn't it?' What? Then I realised that the door at the end of the corridor had 'Door Alarmed' written across it. We had a giggle. It makes it all worthwhile when you're waiting, for what seems like forever, to see the consultant.

My nephew who lives in Australia is very happy about the cricket! He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

I'm not a cricket fan, but my husband is. He heard about the cricket score on the car radio while driving on the motorway today. He let out such a sudden roar of elation that it's a wonder he didn't crash the car. Thank goodness he didn't, but he practically made me jump out of my seat :!:0
-
Thank you for your kind words, Joan, many of my pupils have gone on to achieve in the adult world and I am proud of them. Their schools had essentially written them off, it's surprising what a smidge of self-belief can achieve.
The cricket, without a doubt. I am not a keen follower but am aware that Australia is the old enemy and that they can be an arrogant, brash and nauseatingly over-confident audience. To see them cut down to size like that (not just all out for 60 but our response on the SAME WICKET was glorious. Utterly wonderful.
I am looking forward to today, hopefully it will be a smiley one! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Why am I smiling today?
Email from my utilities supplier announcing they are reducing my direct debit payments.
Invites to a friend's wedding and her Mehndi (muslim pre wedding women only do).
In response to the invite "blinging" up my spare wrist splint! If you've got it flaunt it! :hammock:He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

I realised today that I've lost nearly a stone since I started trying to lose weight several weeks ago. I'm now being far more aware of what I eat and also the quantity. I'm writing a food diary every day which really helps me to keep track of everything I eat and drink.
I was pleased with myself when we went out for a meal this week and I chose from the section of the menu which said '500 calories or less'. I had a chicken salad and it was very good. NO CHIPS
Only 2 more stone to lose :!:
Then I'll look like this

Wow! That is good news about your reduced payments, Slosh
More cash to splash on a wedding outfit and blinging up your wrist splint0 -
Getting 2 electricity bills in the post - an estimated one for £106 and a correct one for 42p. I should explain that the house has been empty awaiting rental so only trivial need for power, hence the pennies bill.
My son phoning yesterday so that my 23 month old grand-daughter could say 'Happy Birthday Granny' - actually that was rather a damp smile as you can imagine! I could then hear her burbling away in the background - is Granny at home? when is Nanny coming? where is Grandad? Apparently her mother's parents were due at any time on a visit and she was getting a tad confused.0 -
A lovely seafood lunch yesterday at West Mersea, sitting in bright sunshine protected by sunscreen and a scarf; last night, on removing a sticking plaster from my forearm, seeing the paler skin which had been covered. It's not so noticeable this morning but the faint outline of the plaster is still there!
I may have to return later this week: I fell in love with a small wooden, jointed zebra which would look fabulous in our kitchen. I should have bought him but Mr DD was getting restless. Today's delights include ironing, food shopping and a jaunt to Jimmy's Farm to see if the local hype is justified. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
That sounds as though you had an idyllic day yesterday DD and I like the sound of the jointed zebra, definitely a reason for a return visit.
I had a lovely afternoon tea with a friend from work at the weekend, I felt very flattered when she told me I was the only person from school she was meeting up with especially as she's 20 years younger than me, and she wants to do it again. Best of all, as two teachers from the same school we managed 3 hours of chat with barely a mention of work!He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

Hearing, and then seeing, 3 goldcrests bouncing about in a tall hedge at work. They used to regularly visit the garden of a previous house I lived in but I haven't seen any for years, although occasionally heard them. If you thought wrens were tiny you should see these!0
-
Ooooh lovely. We did used to have a wren. I don't think I've ever seen a goldcrest. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
