Swimming gloves for Aqua Classes
hi, just discovered this community! I am recently diagnosed with arthritis in my thumbs. I love my Aqua classes but am finding that the foam weights we use are very hard on my hands. The instructor mentioned to try swim gloves instead. The pool is heated. Any comments before I buy??
I also spend lots of time in cold hockey arenas- the worst for hands! I wear bamboo compression gloves under my mittens. Any other suggestions?
I have just started seeing a physiotherapist, she gave me thumb braces for night time and mild exercises.
Is it better to ignore the pain or baby it?

Good morning @lpa a warm welcome to the online community from me.
I see from your post that you have recently been diagnosed with arthritis in your thumbs I am presuming it's Osteoarthritis (OA)? Your issue (the 'weights' in your aqua aerobic classes) is a bit specific I really can't remember anyone mentioning that problem before. Perhaps it is worth you investigating the gloves your instructor suggests?
I am going to attach a couple of links to information which might be of use. This first one is the Versus Arthritis information:
This next is a search I did for you for threads on the subject. It is in 'best match' order, but if you change it to newest you might see more recent posts by people who are active here now. (see underneath the blue 'search' button close to the top of the page.
Finally this is another search I did on the subject of aqua classes:
Best wishes
Ellen.
