Total ankle replacement at younger age
Greetings.
Does anyone have experience with total ankle replacement (TAR) for end-stage post-traumatic arthritis (PTOA) at a younger age?
My doctor is recommending waiting until age 50 (I'm almost 46) due to the likely need for revision surgeries as the parts wear out over time. However, I am considering doing the surgery earlier, as the pain and dysfunction have become unmanageable.
I'd love to hear about other's experiences either with TAR or just living with end stage ankle arthritis in general. Thank you.

hi @ouchyankle , welcome to the online community, it’s great to have you here! I’m sorry to hear that you’re having as many issues with your ankle; that can’t be easy. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice/experiences on total ankle replacement but hopefully someone else who does will come along to offer better advice and support. Have you spoken to your doctor about wishing to have the surgery sooner than 50? Good luck 🤞
