Newly Diagnosed Hip osteoarthritis

Options

Hello

After many years of hip pain and despite previous normal x-rays, physio and chiropractor involvement, I have been diagnosed with mild to moderate arthritis in my left hip. I feel that I couldnt have done any more to resolve my pain.

is it a given that I will develop it in my right hip also as I now have pain in that hip but currently a normal xray? Do they normally check other areas once one is diagnosed?

I am awaiting a referall to MSK and just have lots of questions.

Thanks in advance

Mandy

Hi @Huckle73 and welcome to the online community,

After several years of hip pain, you’ve at last got a diagnosis for its cause. It’s good to see that you’ve joined our community where all our members experience living with arthritis of some kind, and are keen to help and support other members.

You are bound to have lots of questions about your condition, and your forthcoming appointment with the MSK team will be an opportunity to raise them. It might be helpful if you write them down as it’s easy to forget things when confronted by medical practitioners sometimes!

The link below gives you more information about arthritis in the hip, including treatments and self help suggestions. Exercise plays a big part in managing pain and building strength, and there are several exercises suggested that you might find useful.
