PsA and fibre

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with PsA at around 16/17, I’m now 34 and am currently in the process of getting a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I’ve had a blood test to rule out lupus, just waiting on the results for that but going off symptoms I think it’s more likely to be fibro.

I'm used to the swelling and pain of PsA but I’m really struggling with exhaustion. I am also struggling to string a sentence together and forgetting words a lot of the time. Aswell as struggling to focus when around noise.

I wondered if anyone has advice on how to cope with it all. With still being young (ish) I don’t want it to rule my life and stop me from doing the things I want to do.

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi @Bedders90

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling at the moment. Do you find that the brain fog is worse when you are tired or at certain stages of the day?

Here's some info on Fibromyalgia for you to have a read through.

Thank you for your reply. No there doesn’t seem to be any reason for it. I can be feeling ok and trying to talk to someone and then I can’t think of a word or get my sentence out properly. I realise people look at me in confusion as I’m thinking about what I want to say or because I’m not making sense. I know what I want to say in my head but it doesn’t always come out like that.

    Morning @Bedders90

Sorry to hear your concerns about what I call "brain fog" which I do suffer from to but I think it is the medication I am on Yuflyma and Hydroxychloriquine???

Not sure what you are on but maybe worth reading side effects or contacting doctor/consultant for medical advice?

    Best Wishes @Naomi33

Hi @Bedders90 I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Last year my GP sent me on a group course specifically for fibromyalgia called W.I.S.E. They had some useful strategies and coping mechanisms for dealing with fibromyalgia. They focused a lot on breathing techniques to help with brain fog and fatigue. I also have days where I have trouble putting a sentence together, it can be embarrassing especially if you don't know the person you are speaking to. I had a word with my boss and told her of my fibromyalgia and trouble with speech at times and that sometimes I can sound as if I'm drunk. Just to make her aware It is a symptom of fibromyalgia. Sometimes I have told people I'm speaking to if I find myself slurring or having trouble putting a sentence together that I have fibromyalgia. Maybe ask your GP if there are any courses or resources available to you to help with these issues. Hope this helps

Thank you for that. My rheumatologist is referring me to a program the local gym does but maybe I’ll speak to my gp too to see if there is anything else out there that may be worth trying. My rheumatologist did mention a pain clinic and OT referrals but I don’t know if he is referring me or awaiting the results of my last blood test first.
