Pain relief
Hi new to this
Had knee problems for years and I’m told they will both need replacing , but will not consider till I reach 60 , I’m an expert in hobbling around including work , always careful about walking around as if I slip over years both have dislocated , just lately the pain at times is 8 out of ten
My job involves standing at times now all though one of my knees has been swollen for 15 years it’s beginning to feel swollen now and mobility is getting worse , a take zapain when it’s bad but to be honest doesn’t really do that much and try not to take too often
Over weight all my life but have lost 8stone
Any suggestion appreciated

Welcome @steven1885 to the community,
We are glad you found us as we are here to give you information and support. Many of our members struggle with knee problems and your description of your condition displays a remarkably stoic attitude.
You have struggled with knee problems for years and are registering a high level of pain. The pain relief is not being very effective and you are reluctant to take it too often. Have you asked your medical team for alternative medication or been referred to a pain clinic or asked for a second opinion about replacement surgery? Have you asked your employer about a change in work conditions to relieve your need to stand too often?
I attach some links which I hope you will find helpful
You have made great moves forwards with your weight reduction. I expect there will be lots of requests for you to share your tips on how you have achieved 8st.weight loss.
There are numbers of discussions about knee problems I hope you have a chance to read them. Do post again with any questions.
Best wishes
Poppyjane

8 stone @steven1885 that's incredible.
You have done so well. My own sister has lost just a tiny bit more than that i am so proud of her (and you too now!).
She has been doing this course
and it's made a huge difference to her and her confidence. Might be tricky for you with work but possibly doable if you have a supportive workplace.
Some people on here with knee pain do use knee braces I don't know if that's an option?
Best of luck

Hi @steven1885 congratulations on your weight loss. That's awesome. I also have knee arthritis. I have had a lot of surgeries and issues since I was 17. I have found some things that help me cope with the pain. I do wear knee braces and knee compression support's at times. I use heat and ice depending on weather they are swollen or not. I have recently been using a tens EMS massage unit. I find it provides some relief at the end of the day usually when I'm in bed before I go to sleep. I elevate my legs throughout the day when I can. At times I also use walking aids, stick or crutch. I try to stay mobile as much as possible. But at times the best thing to do is rest. I am on very strong medication through the GP. I hope some of this is of help
