Hi everyone
Just got up and the first thing I saw when I went on the internet and thought of you Jan
The
'Middle Wife' by an Anonymous 2nd grade
teacher
I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own
second grade classroom a few years back.
When
I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and
usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever
place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome.
Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class
with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.
She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.'
'First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there.
He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.' She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh
and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.
'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back
and groans. 'She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.)
My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down
in bed like this.' (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.)
'And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the
bed, like psshhheew!' (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands mimicking water flowing away. It was too much!)
'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe.
They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that
they all said it was from Mom's play-center, (placenta) so there must be a lot of toys inside there. When he got out, the middle wife
spanked him for crawling up
in there.' Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat.
I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another '
Middle Wife' comes along.
Certainly made me laugh. Suddenly all your aches and pains go. for awhile.

Hi Guys.
just comfortable I think you would say.
Can't say much more, except my legs feel like I have run the Edinburgh Marathon today or was it yesterday. Had my eyes shut.
Just Tues to look forward to. Hope Q. will be answered.
I take it there's no baby yet Jan? I think it will come on the 13th. My Ali was due Christmas, so we thought, she arrives on the 13th and the midwife said that she was at least 2 weeks premature. They can tell by the amount of gunge all over them. She also had jaundice. It was a funny labour. Waters broke at 8 a.m. call for the midwife. She says no. It was probably just pressure on the bladder? I did about one and a half days work in one morning (including walking 1/2 mile to the shops and back, cooked a roast
dinner at 3 p.m. Alison comes into the world.
My friend from across the road called by today to collect and pay for the picture. Useful.
Hope you are all coping with the weather. We're not so bad here. Don't know whether to be disappointed or not. It's quite warm out there. 1 1/2 degree at least.
was 4 degrees this morning.

ooh yes please, thanks Skezier, I have been trying to catch up with everyone, bit difficult at times0 -
Hi Linda
Its not always easy to is it? I spend half my life chasing my tail and probably the other half chewing it I haven't got one really....... I don't think......
One plate of cream tea and do you want to join me in a builders? Cris0 -
Hi cris,
er what exactly is a builders?
Linda0 -
Hi Linda,
Oh builders tea, good stuff but not at all refined Comes in a big mug and is quite strong........ Its very good in conjunction with a bucket of energy x0 -
Right, I'll have one of those,
You keeping warm?
I took dogs out today, bloody cold but beautiful walk, as usual I forgot my camera.0 -
Hi Linda,
I think Cornwall has gone for a record in minus tempters now..... -16 unofficially and -14 officially...... Its cold and ice, seem to spend so much time breaking ice on water troughs and bowl only to have to do it again in an hour or so....... Had to scat one tonight with a hammer..... My sheep are in and thankfully their water was only a thin layer that thy could break.
My dogs love it, they really do love it but me I am finding it all far too slippery and cold now x0 -
Don't know the temp here in snowy Leicestershire just very very cold,
do you breed your sheep? daft question I know but I am sure some people don't.
My dogs went nuts, running and skipping everywhere.
Tea & scones were lovely0 -
Hi Linda,
Its not a silly question at all. Mine are total follies....... they have never had a lamb cus well my first was when i was a kid and he did go and i sort got very upset over it and well...... These are the penance for not being able to stop what happened to him. My eldest almost made it to 12 but I am hoping these will get well in to their teens.... They are very special woolly dogs and are somewhat spoilt really, as they should be
Its been cold up there I think? We have never gone lower tempter wise down here till 2 nights ago but you go careful cus of how slippy its getting. Cris x0 -
my dogs are spoilt too, everybody tells me I spoil them, but they are only pups, big pups I grant you but none the less only babies really. They will be 1 on Monday.
Well mate I'm starting to get a little chilly so I will say good night and catch up with you in the morning if I may.
Thanks for the tea & chat
