    Hi Speedy

Thanks ever so much for the instructions.. yes, I get it now.. I do have a special/strong handrail on the bathroom wall so I could make use of that.. I do need to get a rubber bath mat though..

The graduation is in our home town so my daughter or her boyfriend will drive us there and with my blue badge we will be able to park nearby. She did her first degree in Scotland, but this is her PGCE graduation (which she has done locally)...

Yours .. desperate for a proper shower ..

    Hi Speedy

A friend has come round, so I've given the shower method a go and IT WORKED! After 7 weeks and 4 days I have finally managed to have a proper long shower! I used a towel in the bottom of the bath - will get a proper bath mat tomorrow.. I used a step and the handrail and the back of the perching stool... was a little bit worried about getting out, but it was fine.

    Thanks again ..

    from a very clean Marion

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Oh Speedy....that is awful......6 weeks was long enough and at about 3 weeks the district nurse said I could take them off at night because my leg seemed to be swelling over the top and she rang the hospital and asked for a larger pair. They said measure her legs....she did..phoned them back and they said no way......she has the right size now!!!!..Bless you....I hope you can get them off before that

    HI speedy,

I hope your ears weren't burning this afternoon
Been to a gathering of mostly elderly relatives of the inlaws ..... and one aunt is 8 weeks post op THR.

She too had the dreaded TEDs and said how awfully hot they were to wear. She was absolutely HORRIFIED at the thought of you still wearing your TEDs ..... and at a loss to understand why you have been told to wear them for so long.

I hope your team can get you an answer that makes sense and if you do have to keep on with them I hope they find a way for you to take them off and put them on ...... you can't be the only person who is desperate to take them off!

sorry to be no more help

I believe a certain chant goes 'Off! Off! Off! Off!' etc, ad nauseaum. Take 'em off girl, you are moving about, walking, driving, there is no reason to wear them. DD

    Hi Wonky,

would like to know what is going on in the mind of the consultant?! Or maybe not?! Does seem ridiculous. How is the aunt doing?

DD - you are right, they are off at the moment ... but then of course the I team call tomorrow morning ...

Hope you had a lovely day (even though the match was disappointing by all accounts.) We went to a very nice cafe for afternoon tea and I did a bit of fab people watching in between chatting with S who was really enjoying a large slice of homemade cake ...

She is doing really well thanks ....... amazing recovery really at 85 ..... she was telling me how she struggled in hospital though .... as she is very small and instead of raising seats etc they had to get the OT in to lower everything for her :lol::lol::lol:

She said that was one benefit of being short ..... she doesn't need all the helping things that I have being a tall so-and-so

I'm off to bednow before I turn into a pumpkin .... ooops, too late

    Hi Wonky -

she sounds amazing. She must be diddy. I only remarked today that being short finally has it advantages when it comes to bending to pick things up and the 90 degree rule ...

    Hope you sleep well, pumpkin!!

Well I'm still alive TEDless! The nurses have a lot of people off sick and so no one has been out today yet to replace my TED stockings that I took off at bedtime last night...

I went out on my scooter and the wind blew on my legs - ooh - lovely and cool ... (I know - little things and all that...)

The physio rang to say she had spoken to consultants secretary ... who spoke to consultant and he confirmed he did want me to wear them another 8 weeks ... but she forgot to ask him why ... so the saga continues ... (and what a boring one it is turning into to!

In retrospect, Elizabeth, wished I done the same. But the Intermediate team kept emphasing only the consultant could say when ...

Have you had a busy week ... you haven't posted as much as usual?

    Speedy

Not been on this thread but posted in chit chat zone. I am very, very busy far too busy really to be posting on here!
Enjoy your ted free days while you can!

    FINAL TEDS SAGA UPDATE.

The consultant has decided I should wear the TEDS for the full 14 weeks - his only reason - to prevent DVTs and no he has confirmed I'm at no special risk of getting one.

The intemediate care team are bound to keep coming up as the consultant has deemed I should wear the damn things.

I have found an aid on the net that claims to work for putting on TEDS! My key nurse has written my out a prescription and the chemist is going to get me the aid. (Might as well use my 3 month pre-paid certificate to the full...)

Today I have told the Intermediate team that I will be "taking over" from here as I will be getting my own gadget ..

So you know what that means don't you ....IT'S VEET TIME, in the shower ...

    Speedy

Marion - I will let you know if the gadget is any good - I'll try it out just the once for you!!

    Hi Speedy

Well, I suppose the good news is that you know you are NOT at special risk of DVT!!!!!!!!!!

From the sublime to the ridiculous - me with no TEDs prescribed at all and you with 14 weeks of them!

I would be interested in knowing if that gadget works - I think it's the one I had looked at buying..

Hi Elizabeth - I think the consultant has a bit of a problem ...!! The intermediate team said not even their bed bound patients all wore them ...

Hi Marion, how is the swelling and blood pooling and all that doing?
I will let you know about the gadget.

I did my longest walk yesterday to the cafe but it was not as good as I anticipated - the cafe seats were very uncomfy (even though I took a thin chair seat pad) and so it was not the lovely rest before I walked all the way home again ... Some days walking feels easier/freer than others. Some days I can tell I'm walking with metal on metal ... does that make sense? (I think I'm getting more critical as the days go by/impatient!)

Impatient, by the sound of it, and you have every reason to be so. It must be so frustrating, knowing that it's all fixed and better, pain levels falling but STILL restrictions on movement. I'm impatient too, knowing that it will NEVER get better, pain levels will not fall and I'm losing more movement every day. What a pair we are - the ying and yang of arthritis! One has to smile! :D And one is! DD

    Hi Speedy

I know exactly what you mean about some days being better than others.. don't get disheartened.. I have found 8 weeks to be a time for quite a substantial improvement ...

I wonder if your consultant has had a 'disaster' in the past with a patient having a DVT at 3 months, and that's why he is very cautious...

I had a brilliant day yesterday - I drove for the first time and went clothes shopping for the first time in 8 weeks and got some nice clothes for my daughter's graduation (they WERE in the sale), and then I went to a big M & S store and got some lovely big colourful plants to brighten up my (now) tidy but bare garden... also some linen trousers ...

    now I need some advice!

I've been wearing skirts since my op - how does one get trousers on ??? I had a go this morning but gave up after about 30 seconds and now my new hip is aching!!

The swelling/pooling in my lower leg/ankle is a little bit better - it is still rather embarasssing - I sat in the hairdressers the other morning on a high chair, in front of a long/unforgiving mirror, and over the 30 minutes I watched my leg swelling before my very eyes.. not an attractive sight. am waiting to hear how you find that gadget before I try anything else. I can't see me sitting behind a desk at work until I have sorted this out...(hence the trousers)..

Looking forward to your advice (again)..

(I seem to be having some trouble logging onto the forum today .. so if I don't post, that's the reason wny..)

Oh Marion, that's a poser, isn't it? Whatever one does breaks the 90 degree rule, am I right? Could be skirts for a while longer! DD
