    Morning everyone :)

Gosh Mike poor Elliott sending even more strength to him than I was before! ((())) Now your neck see I had remembered. I will have everything crossed for you. There have been one or two here whose necks have got so bad that it's safer to operate as the risks eventually do outweigh the benefits. If they do say that you do need surgery I will have a go at digging the threads out for you. We will all be with you in spirit 🤞

Reshmi how adorable your nephew sounds a proper sweetie! I love him! Imagine pretending you have the same birthday so he can get cake! Then getting belly ache eating too much. Glad all is well now and maybe a little relieved that the extended excess family visit was cut short🤫

Now these 'odd Auntie socks'? are they odd? I had some 'odd cat socks' which I love I wonder whether they are similar

Yes please do have a go at your poetry maybe even look at improving the other day's one? Kath writes a lot especially if she is on a roll.

Joan can you believe it's already Wednesday? What is happening to this week? and September the 1st! ((())) to you and Sue take care xxxx

Barbara I am so glad you have seen plenty of Niamh before school restarts. Bless her i bet she can't wait to see all her friends again can she?

How lovely for you that your GD has unconditional love like that from her fiancée - we can want nothing more for our children/Gchildren can we?

How are your eyes? Typing better so hoped yesterday was a good day.

Early start for me this morning 5.30 as Lucy has to be in for 7😫

Kitty kat Quentin is adorable bless his little heart. That is sadly for him my brother's name too. We call him Q though.

The return of the biscuit poem! I love it thank you.

I am very sorry i don't remember Beryl Reed but will google it....

Wasn't Coronation street a tear jerker the other day. I am glad that Corey should get his comeuppance, but think Kelly ought to get punished for slapping Nina too she sort of started it.

Right off to get Penelope ready for Lucy.

    See you all later

Hi btjk , Barbara, thanks, that’s true, v relaxing, my sis gave the nephew too much icing, easy enough mistake to make, I know, but the problem is that the innocent little nephew will eat anything put on his plate and sometimes even food from other’s plates, lol, but he’s almost fully better, so that’s great, ty. You have a nice morning too. Xx

Hi T , yes, he’s quite an adorable cheeky monkey, lol, ty. Yes, I’m discreetly happy about shorter visit, lol, he’s almost fully better now ty. Actually I got it slightly wrong, odd Mary socks for ladies, that’s the full title, lol, they’re bright multicoloured socks that don’t match. There may be a suitable poem for here actually, I’ll have a look a bit later and check.Porridge with banana and brown sugar, my favourite breakfast! Bye for now T , Tc. Xx

About Beryl Reid (for those who never heard of her) Beryl Elizabeth ReidOBE (17 June 1919 – 13 October 1996), was an English actress of stage and screen. She won the 1967 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for The Killing of Sister George, the 1980 Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance for Born in the Gardens, and the 1982 BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for Smiley's People. Her film appearances included The Belles of St. Trinian's (1954), The Killing of Sister George (1968), The Assassination Bureau (1969), and No Sex Please, We're British (1973).

Her first big success came in the BBC radio show Educating Archie as naughty schoolgirl Monica and later as the Brummie, "Marlene." She was the subject of This Is Your Life in 1976 when she was surprised by Eamonn Andrews in the car park of Thames Television's Teddington Studios.

In both Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley's People, Reid played Connie Sachs. For Smiley's People she won a BAFTA for Best Actress on Television. She also wrote an autobiography, So Much Love. Reid died at the age of 77 from severe osteoarthritis and kidney failure (according to some obituaries, she had developed pneumonia) at a hospital in WexhamBuckinghamshire[1] on 13 October 1996, after complications following knee replacement surgery for arthritis. (Wikipesia)

Toni, yes it was a tear jerker. Poor Nina and Abi. I do think Kelly should have some punishment, but I feel sort of sorry for her too, Now Corey is another matter, but what a good actor Maximus Evans is!!!

Joan, yes I'd heard that ALL carers must have the jab, or give up their job, How sad for Sue, I hope her replacement is a nice kind person for Sue's sake.

Barbara, I hope all is good at yours. Now let me find another poem, although you've seen them already. 😋

Hi k , ty for the info on BR, I’ve heard about her, but I didn’t know all the details, v sad. V nice poem ty. I’ve still not got round to editing my poem, just relaxing without family, for about an hour, I ate a whole loaf of rubbish today, my dad has made these monster- sized desserts and a medium bit of posh choc and so on and so forth. ECG tomorrow for me, so I can’t even do any sort of walk then, oh well, not the end of the world, lol. My bil, on the other hand is drinking family packs of Coke and cream cakes, or food of that kind, lol, and wondering why he’s putting on weight, he also says my sis can’t cook soup, well, at least she’s trying! All he’s ever done in the kitchen is fry bacon, poss once a year, lol. Ok, Tc for now. Xx

    Morning everyone.

If I disappear I am only taking Lu to work and will be back soon....

Mike I hope all went well for your Xray? I know they won't say anything until teh radiologist has assessed the images. Have you booked an appointment ready with your GP to discuss the results and what action should be taken next?

Reshmi I have no idea how long your BIL will get away with eating cakes and drinking coke like that! These things have a habit of catching up with us don't they?

I hope all goes well for you today with your ECG we will all be with you in spirit. Everything crossed that all is as it should be.

I think it's good to just enjoy the shorter visits even if your poor little nephew (who sounds a real character) did have tummy ache bless him. Icing can do that.

Your socks they are the same as my cat ones! None of them match it's fun making 'pairs'! I will dig out some pics of mine to show you.

Morning Kitty-Kat how are you today? Well l hope. Sleek assures me all is reasonably well at the moment.

I love that poem and have never been to Cushendall - I think the motorhome might not get under the bridge🤨

I do know who Beryl Reed is but not well. I reckon it was pneumonia you know that often USED to happen with joint replacements as people used to sit around in bed for too long. Such a shame.

Kelly is going to probably turn out nice now...she did some nasty things - the sharing of Asha's photos for one and trying to steal Corey from Asha as well as slapping Nina. Chances are the writers will turn her into a 'reformed' character.

Gosh yes Maximus is absolutely brilliant! Deserves an award.

Joan I am sorry for Sue's carer, but the risk she might present to her vulnerable clients is real so I understand why - poor Sue has lost so many carers lately ((())) xxx

Morning. X-ray done, I arrived early for my appointment but as I was in my chair they got me in straight away through a "secret" door rather than being put in the waiting room, as a result I was in and out in 10 minutes and then had a 45 minute wait for the taxi to come back. The taxi only cost me £40 for the return trip, I was expecting more, and the driver was very helpful with my chair. The radiologist said to wait a week before phoning the surgery for the results. I know that it will show up further degradation and the battle will be with the GP to get him to make a referral to a specialist, I will be pushing it this time as when I had a similar x-ray 3 years ago all he said was "it's getting worse" and did nothing about it and I just accepted it!

  • frogmorton

That sounded as though it all ran smoothly Mike, a good driver, and a bit of preferential treatment at radiology😊 £40 sounds such a lot of money even if it wasn't bad in your experience.

Yes you will have to be very assertive this time you have been struggling so much with your neck and need a consultant's opinion.

Waiting for my lateral flow test results so I can visit my friend in the hospice later. 30 minutes flies by!

I noticed no Barbara yesterday I hope all is well and the eyes aren't misbehaving too much ((()))

School reopens here today so expecting the lane to be mayhem again especially with new parents who don't know how to park safely.

Morning everybody, I hope all are well today. I don't really have much to tell you, although I received an email from VA this morning with a survey which I filled in and submitted. I quite enjoy surveys.

Joan, yes I did watch some mothers. I remember the one where he was on skates and clinging to the bus while trying to pay his bus fare. He did all his own stunts - amazing!

Antoinette, Derbyshire schools go back next week, but Notts (where Emily works) started back this week. I agree about Kelly but I hope she will be given some sort of sentence. It was lovely to see Nina in all her Goth garb again. Wasn't Imran's ex obnoxious! But Imran is doing so well on his own. I hope he doesn't have a breakdown!!

    Vegan wellington

1 Hour 30 Minutes + Chilling Serves 6A Little Effort

Looking for a show stopping vegan recipe? Check out our impressive giant vegan wellington packed with roasted red peppers, cooked beetroot and kale. Plus, we've made a vegan stuffing and glazed the pastry in marmite to take this wellington to the next level

    By Adam Bush

    https://www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/vegetarian/giant-vegan-wellington/

    Ingredients

    • olive oil 1 tbsp
    • garlic 2 cloves, finely chopped
    • kale 250g, tough stalks removed
    • cooked beetroot 250g pack, thinly sliced
    • roasted red peppers from a jar 3, drained and halved

    PASTRY

    • plain flour 500g, plus extra for dusting
    • olive oil 210ml
    • aquafaba 7 tbsp, see notes below

    STUFFING

    • olive oil 2 tbsp
    • onion 1, finely chopped
    • swede 150g, coarsely grated
    • garlic 2 cloves, finely chopped
    • thyme a few sprigs, leaves stripped
    • nutmeg a good grating
    • ready-cooked puy lentils 200g pouch
    • apple 1, coarsely grated
    • hazelnuts 30g, toasted and finely chopped
    • breadcrumbs 50g
    • lemon 1, zested

    GLAZE

    • Marmite 1 tsp

    GRAVY

    • vegetable oil 1 tbsp
    • shallot 1, finely chopped
    • brandy 100ml
    • pink peppercorns 1 tbsp, lightly crushed
    • vegan gravy granules 3 tbsp, see notes below
    • soya cream 50ml

    Method

    • STEP 1
    • To make the pastry, mix the flour with 1 tsp salt then stir in the olive oil and 5 or 6 tbsp of aquafaba until it comes together as a dough, then knead lightly for 30 seconds. Cut 1/3 of the pastry from the block, then wrap and chill both blocks for 30 minutes.
    • STEP 2
    • Meanwhile, make the stuffing. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and cook the onion and swede for 5-10 minutes or until soft. Add the garlic, thyme and nutmeg, and cook for a further minute. Tip in the cooked lentils, apple and hazelnuts, and cook for 1 minute before stirring through the breadcrumbs and lemon zest. Cool.
    • STEP 3
    • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pan and cook the chopped garlic for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the kale and a splash of boiling water, and cook until the kale has wilted and the water has evaporated. Season and cool.
    • STEP 4
    • On a lightly floured piece of baking paper, roll out the 1/3 of pastry to a 25cm x 15cm rectangle, then slide onto a baking sheet. Spoon ½ of the stuffing onto the pastry in an even layer, leaving a 1cm border. Add ½ of the kale mixture, ½ of the beetroot slices and all the pepper slices, so that you have clear layers. Spoon the remaining stuffing mix on top of this, then repeat with the remaining beetroot and kale.
    • STEP 5
    • On another lightly floured piece of baking paper, roll out the remaining pastry to a 35cm x 30cm rectangle. Carefully flip the pastry onto the wellington and peel off the baking paper. Use your hands to mould the pastry round so it is tight to the filling. Use your finger and thumb to crimp the edges of the pastry so it’s completely encased, then trim any excess. Roll out any excess pastry and decorate, if you like. Chill for 30 minutes.
    • STEP 6
    • Heat the oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Mix the Marmite with 1 tbsp aquafaba and use this to glaze the entire wellington. Put into the oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is crisp and golden.
    • STEP 7
    • To make the gravy, heat the vegetable oil in a small pan and cook the shallot for 5 minutes until soft. Tip in the brandy and pink peppercorns. Mix the gravy granules with 350ml water and pour in. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened slightly, then stir through the soya cream. Keep warm but do not boil. Cut the wellington into thick slices and serve with the gravy.

Aquafaba is the starchy liquid from a tin of chickpeas – it will help bind the pastry, a little like egg white. Check out our recipes to use up your drained chickpeas here. Many well-known brands and supermarket gravy granules are vegan (including Bisto).

BTW, VAs Inspire magazine has some vegan recipes in. Such as Teriyaki Tofu stir fry. http://portfolio.cpl.co.uk/inspire/2019-spring/recipes-1/

Hi btjk , t, yes, I know bil has v bad diet, he’s already put on a lot of weight recently, also my sis is quite a good cook and he doesn’t really have right to criticise anyway, when he’s just lazing about when not working, with first baby he did nothing and now only helping out a bit with his own kids after a lot of diplomatic nudging in right direction from my mum. Ok, that rant is over, lol. ECG was ok ty, just the blood test to go basically, thanks for “being there”. Yes, icing is quite dodgy, something I mostly avoid too. Good about the socks, lol. Do you like malt loaf? Soreen, or that kind of thing? I quite enjoy it, as it fills me up and is only slightly sweet. It contains barley, I’ve recently discovered, which is very nutritious as well as being filling. Nice scrambled eggs always a favourite with me. Okay thanks take care.hi J, wasn’t too bad thanks just a blood test to go ECG was fine. Whole of the Southeast has discovered that Costa now so I went to the bakery but just for some toasties. Have a nice afternoon. K thanks for the recipe, I will sort my poem out at some point I just taking it easy for a bit now before the family rows kick off again take care

Hi btjk , this is the poem I wrote, A stands for older baby nephew and R is younger one.

    waiting for supper

Mum and I are waiting to have our chicken stew

Poor innocent A can of course join in too,

R as well when he comes of age

He’ll a salt of the Earth working man

    Giving lord A his wage

Experimenting with voice control so punctuation et cetera may not be perfect. Elder nephew is quite bossy and lordly hence the reference Lord A. Just a few hopefully witty lines hope you enjoy take care, Reshmi. By the way sorry the stew isn’t vegan but on the plus plus side does have a lot of veg in and is pretty healthy, lol. I wrote this on a day when I was really hungry but trying to control my eating because of the stomach problems okay I’ll stop waffling now have a good evening.

Poor poor Barbara I thought it odd you'd been AWOL. It's really getting close to you needing a reader I think else Mr B will have to become an honorary member of the cafe and read to you ((()))

I hope they will sort out his hips bless him.

Yes all we want for our kids to love and be loved, be safe and ideally solvent!

Reshmi I got the poem 100% funny it is! I already felt I knew A might be a bit of a 'Lord' being the eldest and 'sharing' your birthday! Punctuation is irrelevant It is really good. Well done. Let's see what Kitty Kat makes of it now she is the expert not me.

I'm sure your Mum would put on some stew minus the meat for us vegans. Plenty of veg is good👍️

So the ECG was ok? and the bloods are done. Best dodge Costa until everyone in the Southeast calms down🙄

Lucy's cholesterol is even higher! It's the meds but her skin is already so good they have carried on with the meds. Scary eh?

Kitty thank you for the vegan Wellington I have probably said before that I LOVE pastry? Has to be vegan but I did miss it for many years. I must study my inspire a bit better😲

Our village school went back yesterday. There is supposed to be a car-park being built and it can't come soon enough🙄Even more cars than usual. why don't the teachers car-share🤔?

I think for Imran the battle with Sabeen is personal and he really has to win. Although Coronation St. does have a history of 'putting away' innocent people......we shall see if justice is done. Bless her only right to see Nina back as Seb loved her 😕

Sending ((())) to Mike I hope all is well and Vixen is back on your lap maybe she missed her Daddy going out to the hospital the other day? We had a LOAD of stuff fly-tipped off the only other lane in the village yesterday it was there by 6.30 when I took Lucy into work. Some people😡

Joan Lucy's cholesterol is even higher!!! She's going to eat daily porridge from now on. I wouldn't charge Lucy that's a bit mean but I suppose busses and taxis do cost so maybe he was teaching his daughter the reality of life??? Yes I can get out in my little pink car. Love to you and Sue ((())) xxx Enjoy your cafe trip out!

Barbara, your poor eyes, I don't know how you cope. 😥

Reshmi, loving the poem, sometimes punctuation gets in the way and it looks a very concise and neat poem Lord A indeed, contrasting well with 'Poor innocent A' I love it. WRITE MORE YOU CLEVER LADY. 🤩

Antoinette, Lucy's cholesterol is even higher! Oh my goodness, at least her skin is improved and that matters when you are young and beautiful (yes, I remember those days - sigh).

me at 23 😌long hair and two boobs, AND I'M SMILING! LOLOLOL!

Joan, I don't know what the forum has done with your post, I'm sure you're here somewhere. Hope you and Sue are well.

    Lacto-fermented carrots with grain salad

    30 Minutes + Fermenting Serves 4Easy

Make carrot season last even longer by fermenting with citrussy orange zest and fragrant herbs. Once pickled, this funky veg is fantastic paired with grains, orange slices and pistachios for a zingy vegan salad

    By Tom Hunt

    Ingredients

    • carrots 400g, left whole, or trimmed and halved or quartered if large
    • orange zest 3cm strip
    • sage, basil or thyme a handful, (optional)
    • sea salt flakes 12g

    SALAD

    • cooked mixed grains 2 pouches
    • flat-leaf parsley a handful, stalks finely chopped, leaves picked
    • oranges 2, peeled and sliced
    • whole black peppercorns ground to make ½ tsp
    • pistachios a handful, chopped
    • sumac a big pinch
    • extra-virgin olive oil to serve

    Method

    • STEP 1
    • Wash and then tightly pack the carrots (cutting them if necessary) into a 500ml jar, leaving a 3cm gap at the top. Add the orange zest and herbs, if using.
    • STEP 2
    • Make a 3% brine solution by stirring the salt into 400ml of water. When dissolved, pour the brine over the carrots until they are submerged. Cover loosely with a lid or a cheesecloth and set aside to ferment at room temperature for a minimum of four days or until bubbles start to appear. Either leave at room temperature to continue fermenting or transfer the jar to the fridge, which will slow the fermentation process. Vegetables in brine are at their best consumed within one month but will last for several months if needed.
    • STEP 3
    • For the salad, toss together the grains, parsley and plenty of the drained pickled carrots. Tip onto a platter and top with the orange slices, black pepper, pistachios, sumac and drizzle with plenty of olive oil.

    https://livinggoodness.co.nz/blog/fortifying-bones-with-fermented-foods

Bone health maintenance is paramount due to the fact that bone tissue is constantly being absorbed and replaced . Metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia are characterised with various abnormalities and deformities of the bone. Bone diseases increase the risk for bone fractures due to the characteristic low bone mass. These diseases can be managed and improved by sufficient intake and absorption of important nutrients from healthy foods. The proverbial phrase ‘you are what you eat’ is particularly appropriate because what we consume accurately reflects the composition and function of the gut microbes we harbour.

    Benefits

Fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi are probiotics which are alive with good bacteria such as lactobacillus. The lacto-fermentation process is known to produce lactic acid from fermentation with the lactobacillus genus.

    Bone health nutrients

Sauerkraut and kimchi contain beneficial nutrients for the bone such as dietary fibre, vitamin K2, vitamin B, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium. These vitamins and minerals are essential for building bone mineral density.

    Increased nutrient availability and absorption

These lacto-fermented foods increase nutrient availability i.e. nutrients are more readily absorbed in the fermented vegetables than the unfermented ones.

Hi Barbara I’m using voice control now so hopefully that should help me quite a lot. ECG went fine thanks I’m not sure about bloods because that’s next week but thanks for asking ,hope you’re having a good Friday take care, oh and I’m sorry that your eyes are so bad today okay bye for now. hi Toni thanks very much about the poem, thanks about the stew as well ,this is a stew I’ve actually made in the past but there is some issues about pans and stuff at the moment a lot of stress now really because my mum is preparing for her cataract Op or something like that, well she’s gone to the opticians today, I’m not sure of all the details, so I’ll leave expensive pan - buying issues for awhile and then I’ll get back into cooking I promise, lol. Stu actually works well with no meat so in essence is really vegan friendly. It’s kind of a very mild curry, I guess that’s one way of describing it ,I did have the recipe written down somewhere, but I can’t find it at the moment but will share some recipes at some point in life, lol. ECG was fine thanks , bloods are next week so after wait and see for those thoughts thanks. Sorry to hear about Lucy‘s cholesterol. Okay bye for now Toni take care.

The thing about me and poetry is that I used to write a lot of it when I was mentally ill basically, but that was really depressing horrible and weird stuff ,also too much writing can hurt my fingers a bit, but I do like physically writing things down, literally putting pen to paper , I suppose it’s what I’m saying, so I think you’re right there I have to kind of get over this association in my mind of poetry and mental illness and emotional highs and lows and all that and just kind of start again with a clean slate. Thanks for saying it’s good though because some of my family members think I’m really weird because I have an unusual sense of humour, but it’s nice that you found it funny and Toni and everyone else so that’s great thank you. It’s a really nice picture of you when you’re 23. I like your style, I used to have a skirt very similar to that but it got wrecked. I saw a picture on here awhile ago of someone with short hair just had chemotherapy was that yourself? Sorry I can’t quite remember. If it was then it was a really nice picture to I disagree that people peoples looks get worse when they’re older they get different but lots of people always look good like my mum, it’s of course its what’s on the inside that counts anyway. I tried saying this to my sister sometimes, lol, she looks very beautiful but she is the vainest person I know. She’s got a whole pharmacy of anti ageing creams she’s been using them since she was younger than you were in this photo maybe about 21 or something, goodness knows people are very strange, lol. Bye for now Kathleen take care.

    Morning everyone 😊

Getting ready to take Lucy into work this morning at least 8am instead of 7! Yawn....

Mike we haven't heard from you for a day or so even though i know you pop in and read every day and notice the 'thank yous'. I hope all is well with you and Vixen ((())) Still thinking of Elliott of course.

Reshmi I also hope any arguments are not intense. Mum is worried if she faces an eye operation/procedure. If Its cataracts she needs not worry they are nice and easy and they work so well. 3 of the villagers have had theirs done in the last 2 years all very very happy with the result.

New pans will wait until she is more herself. When you can I would love you to share your recipes no pressure or rush though.

I imagine writing helped when you were really struggling with your mental health but reading them back now - does it upset you? ((()))

Kitty Kat oh yes I spotted the Aidanism! and of course we will be having aidan's breakfast today it being his usual day.

He would be pleased to know we are meeting up with friends from our usual place in France tomorrow methinks.

Fermented carrots? O....k.....I might maybe give them a go. Good recipes though thanks to VA Good for our bones. Sounds as though fermenting gives a lot of added health benefits.

Lucy is also nearly 23 so that pic of you is so relevant! beautiful! and lovely skin. The meds are working i just hope it will only be another month or so. For 9 out of 10 people the acne stays away🤞Let's hope the cholesterol settles back down afterwards.

Enjoy your internet free day and don't go in the spare room! Sleek reckons she is tidying it for you.😮

Morning Barbara how are you today and your eyes? are they ok-ish?

So 'the girls' all start work on Monday then you will have to cook for them a bit (or your son can cook for you all!) I am sure they will love their new jobs.

They are monitoring Lucy closely but I am suspecting they will take her off the meds if it rises again one more time. What can we do? Not a lot she eats really well.

Would we want to be young and go through this all again? Maybe maybe not!!

Joan a syringe driver is when they put a tube under the skin and there is a box which you wear in a bag which administers medication slowly all the time. Really good for sickness and also for pain management. P's is really much better with hers.

I hope you and Sue had a good trip out yesterday? Or was it raining like here 🙄 ((())) xxx

Morning Froggie and gang. Nothing to report really, same rubbish different day. Just sitting in my recliner watching TV with the occasional 10 minutes of model making activity as usual. Other than that, surviving thanks!

Morning lovelies, just popped in for a quick visit to let you know Emily’s good news. She won’t be applying for that job I told you about a few weeks ago. Her school has given her a class of her own, so they’ve effectively made her a teacher. Starting Monday she will meet her students, all year sevens with special needs. She is so excited, and we are so proud of her.

rang dad, he’s still not 100% because he keeps losing his balance. He still has caters twice a day, and the Friday club still look after him too.

I’ve been looking on Amazon at Zimmer frames and caddies. If I get one, I’ll fold my roll at or up and use the zimmer instead.

    I hope all are well.
