Bubbles, my dad's cat is a house cat. She goes in to the garden when it's sunny and did once go next door to my sister's but her 4, or is it 5, cats didn't like that so she hasn't been back. When she goes in to the back garden, dad panics in case someone opens the gate and lets her out. he worries she'll run away and get lost. Doesn't matter how often we tell him she could jump over the fence if she wanted to run away. Hope you enjoyed your day off from visiting. Don't feel bad about it. You need to look after yourself and aunt and uncle visited so your mum wasn't without someone to chat to. Good news that your mum has improved.

Happy birthday Barbara. Thank you for the cake and bubbly. Yummy. Hope you've had a wonderful day celebrating.

So mousie has made a run for it Toady. Hope your mouse trap arrives soon. He does look like a rather lively little chap.

I like the sound of your new shoes Mig. It makes such a difference wearing comfy shoes.

Joan, hope you are able to have a good weekend. I think we are all due some good weather.

My son picked me up from work and took me home. He told me his dad was on holiday and had asked him to look after some chicks. Apparently, they cheeped all night and kept them awake. Went in to the back garden and heard the couple next door talking to their 3 1/2 year old daughter saying she had to walk slowly and they'll follow then they said they were feeding them bread. I went upstairs and looked out the window (I know - nosey  ) and saw they had half a dozen chicks. That should be fun when they grow up.My sister's neighbours have chickens and they're very noisy. :o

Evening.. it's all quiet here.. too quiet in fact.. I'm pretty sure I traced a scuffling to a cupboard (he could have run straight under the sofa and nipped into it on the other side).. but not much sign since.. I think I need barbara's plan of action :D I do have a plan but will remain to be seen if it works. Otherwise I am in for another unsettled evening  in fact with the cat howling & bringing in things & a loose mouse, I think the only way I'm getting much sleep for a while is in the day  so if you see the lights on late it's me sitting blearily on a stool with my umpteenth tea.

I don't think I'll go in for keeping chickens after recent events.. although it's a nice idea on paper.. or 5 cats, even house cats (though they do sound the sensible option!) - nothing like having your peace & quiet scuppered to make you crave silence.

Glad you got your buddha barbara :D & you had a good day with family :)

Hope things continue steadily for you bubbles & all the best if you are visiting tomorrow.

Hello to joan, and mig, marianne, Kath & TK haven't been in today (hope you're ok, TK)

Applerose hope you can work around the 'full house' next fortnight, it won't be your fault if you can't hoover, at any rate.. yes the grass will wait it looks dry over the weekend.. got a bit done in the garden today, ideal weather, just a bit overcast so not too hot, really nice. Hope to post in Gardening when I get round to it.

    Night all xx

I will tell the stories of our mice, who shared our house in France, one day. Suffice to say it was such a performance you had to laugh. Two people and three cats, could we catch a mouse, could we buffalo.

Hope you had a good birthday Barbara, hugs and best wishes. Glad you got your buddha, i keep rubbing the tummies on ours, so we won £3.10 on the euromillions, just a few zero'z missing. Better than a slap in the face with a wet fish though.

Thanks for the kind words for Mum, she was much brighter today and she was so so glad to see us. We were going to have tomorrow off, but after she said "it seems ages since you were here", that was it, I said we are here tomorrow evening Mum, don't worry. Just cannot not visit after that. They will be planning for discharge in the coming week, once they sort a care package out with OT's and physio's. Good progress.

Am pretty shattered tonight, already nodded off after supper, so I thought I would pop in the cafe and have a potter, rather than sit and and snore. Apparently, and i don't believe it, oh says I snore like a warthog  I was going to set my phone to record when it hears a noise, but I would be horrified i am sure.

Off into town with the in laws in the morning to our regular coffee haunt, people watching, love it. MMMMmmmmmmmmmm I feel maltesers coming on. There is a huge coffee and walnut cake in the tin.

Everyone take lots of care, xxxx bubbles.

Glad you got your buddha Barbara. It'll look good in your garden. Glad your son managed home in time. Wrinkle cream? Of course you don't need it. :o My neighbours won't be looking for homes for them. They've only just got them. Probably for their eggs. Wish I could forget to eat now and again.

Toady, yes we might have to try Barbara's plan but please don't push me under the sofa. I might get stuck. Hope you did get some sleep last night. I like my peace and quiet so not looking forward to noisy chickens all day and night. I haven't been in Gardening for a while. Usually can't keep my eyes open by the time I've been in here for a cuppa.

Bubbles, I know what you mean about visiting. It is very tiring and you really do need a break from it but, as you say, it does make you feel guilty if you miss one. My 2 sisters and my brother and I visited mum and dad for a few weeks. They were both in hospital but different hospitals and we had to visit both afternoon and evening. So we had to swap who and when we visited every day. At least it was before I had RA so not as bad as for you. Hopefully, your mum will be home sooner rather than later. I stayed with my daughter and her husband for one night in a 1 room flat (mistake with a booking on a holiday) and they both said I kept them awake most of the night snoring. My partner had never mentioned it over the years we were together. Hope you enjoy your people watching. One of my favourite pastimes.

Mig, I wear new shoes in the house for a while to make sure they're ok. Great that they fit well. And a second pair? Definitely, while you can get them. I wore the same pair for about 2 years and only recently found 2 more pairs.

Managed a sleep in today - 6.30 instead of 6am. Don't need to be awake till 7.30 for work but my body clock has reset itself. Decided to get up and do a few jobs. I wanted to check the weather to decide if to wash the bedding so switched the laptop on, checked the weather then popped in here for a cuppa. Oops! better go and put the washer on. have a good day everyone.

Sorry cannot stop at the mo as have a massive pile of ironing to catch up on just time to say you are all in my thoughts and promise to catch up with your news as soon as I can.

Still coughing for England but I am not suffering too much. At first my hip replacement was agony everytime I coughed. I dread to think what the neighbours thought about all the shouting coming from my bedroom! I'm so embarrassed.

Happy birthday Barbara. Are we having cake?

    Hello people :)

I no longer have a mouse guest :D To cut a long story shortish, I resorted to 'Plan B' as hinted at in my last post, & rigged up a home-made trap - a cardboard tube poked into his cupboard & leading into a box (see pic :D ). Mouse was still in the cupboard which was not ideal but at least I knew where he was.. and I noticed yesterday, that he seemed to be up & doing in the morning, rather than at night. So I put food in Toady's Patent Trap and left it overnight (thinking that at worst he would go in & come out again).. no sound of him in the late evening, anyway. Got up early this morning, heard him in the cupboard, & then within half an hour heard him rustling in the main box.. and that was pretty much that. Out into the shrubbery & he flashed down the tube & away in a little furry mousy blur. So no-one need go under the sofa, and I can go and start on some 'mousework', cleaning out his cupboard/s. On with the handy purple gloves. Oh and the trap didn't turn up in the post, so it would have no use waiting for that til Monday if at all. Who needs it.

    mousebox250_zps686ed9a2.jpg

Yes I did try some porridge oats barbara thanks for that :) , along with raisins, white choc buttons, & blueberries. And yes I am a softy marrianne. I didn't see the programme you mentioned but it would have upset me too

Look forward to your 'mouse tales' one day bubbles (they have a happy ending I hope). Glad to hear your mother has brightened but I know how hard it is, I've had the same, also post-RA. Not easy. You are bound to be tired. Snoring? I didn't hear any while I was drinking my tea last night & helping myself to coffee & walnut (my favourite).

I slept well thanks all, it wasn't so bad, as apart from it being a bit unsettling, I'm not scared to have a mousie on the loose, so at least I wasn't worried he would come upstairs.

Right, enough of mouses, and I will be able to concentrate on what else is going on. TK hope you are having some non-coughing spells, and fingers crossed for you there'll be no parties.. barbara good luck with the lottery.. I didn't realise you might be joining the mtx club, will that be after your next appointments if at all.. marrianne glad you are settling quicker after yours.. lovely washing day applerose (not that I did any  ).. like the shoes mig, what are the second pair going to be like?.. joan it is a bit too hot for me today, I liked it yesterday, I flag a bit in this & the sun is a bit strong. Hope you found some shade.

Back in due course, have a good Sunday everybody. :) xx

Marrianne, no work today. I spend Saturdays at my dad's. Sometimes that's hard work as he has Alzheimers. I wasn't looking forward to hearing the chickens clucking next door but my sister said she has them next door and, after the first few weeks, they didn't notice them. Won't be getting any eggs from them as we don't talk. Eggs that can't be beaten? Are they hard boiled? Hope you enjoyed your swimming.

Glad you're feeling a bit better Elizabeth. Not good having a lot of ironing though. Hope you got at least some of it done. I wouldn't worry about your neighbours. It can't be helped.

Barbara, thanks for not pushing me under the sofa. Got the bedding in to the washer, switched it on then forgot to hang it out before I went to dad's. Still got it dried though as it's been sunny all day. Hope your GD's interview went well.

Hello Joan. Hope you are well and you manage to keep cool.

Toady hooray, no more mousie. I'm sure he'll be happier outside now the weather is better. What a great idea to catch him.

I got a card through the door yesterday saying the postman had tried to deliver something perishable but, because I was out, I had to go to the depot. I take the bus to town, on the way to dad's, then have a 20 minute walk to the depot. It was red hot today. There was a very bog queue, took 20 minutes to get to me, then another 20 minute walk back in to town. It was a biggish box from W*rburt*ns and had gluten-free written across it. I remember entering a competition to win a year's supply of muffins. Yippee. Got on the but to dad's and couldn't resist opening the box to have a look. Inside was a packet of wraps and 2 sandwich buns. :( The enclosed letter said they were to say sorry as I had been having problems with my bread. I think I mentioned on their f*ceb**k page that their bread crumbled.

Christine my GDs interview at the college went well they liked her art work so fingers crossed you would think it was uni..
That is awful that you had to go all that way for the box poor you in that heat...hope the buns were still edible for you.. :) I often put the washing in and leave it sometimes for a couple of days.. till I go to put more in..its a shame you cant have any eggs but never mind...hope your dad is doing okish ..Its not easy...but I bet he is glad to see you..
The sun is shinning but it says this is the last day for a week ..how on earth they can say that when they dont get the day after right is beyond me..today my slate is going down after the weed suppressant thingy..yesterday we were sat in the garden and the sun was shinning a nice cuppa and a biscuit.or two when next door lit the barbeque..I don't mind one bit and love to hear people enjoying themselves, but they put right next to the fence on our side.. instead of further down the garden..so we had to come in the smoke was bellowing..oops think this is old age me getting grumpy
See you all later hope its a good day for you xxxxxxx

Just popped in the apologise for my absence, but I'm in a very dark place right now. One of my February Valentines lost her battle on Friday afternoon and it has brought up many fears and worries for all of us. :(:cry:

On the cancer forums we have a thread called the dark, dark woods. I planted a glade of Violets there and wrote a poem about it.

    Sandra's Glade

There is a glade deep in the woods
    where Violets bloom all year.
A place of peace, a place of love
a place to lose all fear.

Just rest within this wondrous place
    and listen to the sounds
of Robin's song and Dove's quiet call
    such comfort can be found.

    Remember those who bravely fought
    and shed a silent tear
for those we loved and those we lost
whom we still hold so dear.

So bring your sadness, bring your pain,
    to Sandra's woodland glade,
to be consoled and find great peace
    beneath its leafy shade.

I've read a little of the posts on here, and noticed that Barbara has had a birthday. Sorry I missed it, but a belated happy birthday Barbara. I bet there was cake.

I'll be back when I've worked my way through this dark period. Thank you for being so understanding. xx

Well went to the cinema to see Godzilla good film I enjoyed it but I wish I had had a volume control switch so loud, now I feel so uncomfortable because I didn't like to move about too much ,I am one of life's fidgeters,so am laid in bed with iPad going to play some games.

    Barbara birthday cake was great.

It is indeed a lovely poem. Hi to everyone, one and all. Not been about much as it is from home to hospital, back home, feed cats, hospital, home, like one big blur.
Mum was doing ok, steady progress after her big op, then the hospital rang this morning to say she was being taken to coronary care as she had had a heart attack, bless her. Talk about two steps forward, three steps back. So it was off in a rush to the hospital. She is settled and comfortable now, they are all wonderful on the CC unit, she is in good hands.
I, well, both of us are just pooped, I can barely move without loading myself with tramadol, co codamol, pregabalin, to name a few. But, we find an inner strength and carry on.
Just wanted to update and maybe sit outside a moment and take in some air. Hope everyone is as ok as possible, take lots of care, xxx for now, bubbles.

Sounds good for your GD Barbara. The buns and wraps still look ok. Haven't tried them yet. I thought we were going to get rain today but it has been sunny and very hot. I find I get quite grumpy at things too. It annoyed me last night when my neighbours were making a noise at 10pm. Silly really because I can't hear them when I'm watching tv or when I'm in bed.

Kath, so sorry to hear your news. What a beautiful poem. Don't you worry about us. Come on here when you need to talk but please don't feel you have to. We're here if you need us.

Mig I've heard a few people say they enjoyed that film. I find it difficult to sit still more than a few seconds and do feel everyone tuts quietly although they probably hardly notice really.

Bubbles, sorry to hear about your mum's heart attack. They will look after her well. And such a lot of rushing back and forward for you. Hope you get your feet up in between.

Spent the afternoon at my son's. I had won a gas bbq about 8 years ago but have never used it. It was in the shed still in the box so I gave it to my son. Took him an hour to work out how it went together but at least the food was quick. Went in to the garden when I got home and did some edge trimming and weeding in an attempt to keep myself awake. Better get off to bed now before I can't get up.
