Barbara, was there nothing out there that you fancied? I just have a general look round then check out most things online so I either order them or at least know where to go to get things. Used to love Xmas shopping but can't be doing with the crowds now. My daughter sent me an email today saying she was missing me too much. They have been talking about doing this for years now so I know if she changed her mind about going, she would always regret it. We've decided to look at it as we did when she went to Dublin only it will take a little longer to get there. Love the thought of the cats sitting next to the fire.

Kath, I do cook most nights but always keep a few ready meals in the freezer for the other nights when I can't be bothered. Yes it is upsetting when the kids first leave home but I guess we get used to it. Don't like the sound of that car park.

My daughter's dog seems to have settled ok for his stay with me. Wasn't bothered about the fireworks going off then suddenly started shaking all over for a few minutes. I put a blanket over him and sat with him for a while then he was fine again. Must have been a particularly loud bang.

He only had half his dinner yesterday and wouldn't have any tonight so I wiped my empty plate over his bowl and pretended I was giving him what I'd left. Well he gulped the lot down.

Very sorry for all the posts but my post was flagged so it wouldn't post. There was a word in the last little bit causing it. I changed it to wiped but it was what you do when you 'wipe' a knife across your plate to empty it. Begins with sc and ends in aped.

Will call in soon, have been online way too long today :? just as well I have changed my broadband package as I was going over my allowance.. should cut down a bit really, but for when it's not possible, seemed silly to pay an extra charge.

    Hello everyone,

Hope all are quite well in spite of bad backs etc. Also hope you are all wrapped up warm today. I'm wearing vest, jumper, fleece, long socks, leggings, big cosy slippers, and even put a little hat on as my hair is really short again at the moment and I do feel the cold so much. Problem is, when the heating comes on later I will have to do a strip.

We weren't bothered too much by fireworks last night, they finished quite early. Most were from local pubs organised ones. My son and DIL went to the one on West Park in Long Eaton which is organised by Erewash Borough Council. Judging by the photos on FB, it went pretty well. Next doors dog was reasonably quite apart from a few 'Hound of the Baskervilles' howls. The weekend will be the real test as I'm sure local families will have their own celebrations in the gardens.

Think I'll help myself to a cuppa soup, chicken I think, to help my cold clear away properly.

    Hello all.

Had Dan home Monday for a training day so gave myself a couple of catch-up days, just doing things slowly.

I think I've got the hang of this photo lark now. Still got loads more to download though and it was getting a bit tedious last night.

I had a lovely meal out on Sunday as it was OH's Dad's 70th. Had a large party of people (not too eat). I had Duck breast and didn't get very much meat whereas everybody else's was piled high! Still there were loads of spuds and veg which were delicious. Dan hummed loudly to himself all the way through but at least they didn't play any music.

My back is better now. I have no idea why it went so suddenly! Thankfully the Itching has eased. Instead my throat has gone mad, coughing and spluttering especially at night time. But I do get acid reflux quite often(and suddenly) so think it has burnt my throat.

Hopefully Sue is safely home and discharged at a reasonable hour-none of this late night lark! Well done Joan on passing the injection test so she could come home!

I think those girls ate the cake themselves Barbara!

I have unlimited BB Toady as we kept getting extra charges. I know I could get cheaper but I'm happy with the provider and don't want to risk anything going wrong if I change. Well I'm not worried but the children would never forgive me!

Yes I'm feeling cold but haven't put the heating on yet. I know I'll have to sooner or later but we are all in fleeces, hot water bottles and blankets plus the heat from the children's desktops means the room is toasty without heating.

Sorry you had the sadness of your family moving away Applerose. Hope you can skype them on a regular basis. Glad the dog is settled even if you had to fool him into eating his dinner.

Toni hope all is well and you are coping. I think you are wonderful being able to do all this treatment at home.

Mig enjoy your trip to London and your pork pie. London prices for food are dreadful so you are wise to take with you.

    Take care everyone

Barbara, it is a long trip to drop your GD off, isn't it? 2 palms for £1.99? What a bargain. The cake looks great. Looks tasty too.

Mig, glad you are starting to feel better with your chest and ear infection. I find I eat the same thing for a couple of nights in a row with living on my own and things coming in packets or like your cauliflower. The compost bin gets quite a bit of it. Enjoy your trip to see the poppies tomorrow.

Joan, the dog is a mixture. There is definitely some spaniel. Not sure what else but he runs like a whippet despite being 12 years old. My daughter found him when he was a few weeks old on a dual carriageway in Spain. She found the owner who said she didn't want him. That's why she'd thrown him out. Glad Sue got home ok. Hope she is recovering well.

Glad you're ok Toady. Hope you are getting things sorted. Yes the internet can take up a lot of time. It gets addictive.

Kath, it is chilly out there now but I don't feel it too much. Just a scarf and gloves as the cold does get to my neck and fingers. We went to the GCs friend's parents' farm. They had a huge bonfire but the fireworks weren't too good. They even put drinks, hot dogs, crisps and cakes on for everyone.

Elizabeth, I always leave my photos till I've got a lot and it takes forever to sort them out. Sounds as if Sunday was a good one with the meal out. Glad your back is better and the itching eased but isn't it typical that something else goes wrong. I haven't used the heating much over the last couple off years but feel I need it a bit now.

Well my daughter and her family set off on the first leg of their journey this morning so should be in Dubai now. My visit with dad was a bad one yesterday. He was very negative. Kept saying if they don't let him go home soon, he'll walk out. Thought the nurses had taken a tin of biscuits someone had given him but he'd given them the biscuits. Thought no-one had visited him at all since he'd been there. Guess there will be days like that. Good news is that my son starts a new job tomorrow. Yes, another one. He found there were things going on with the company he was with and he felt they were going bankrupt. He was based in one of the local colleges so they offered him the same job but with twice the salary so he grabbed the chance.

Barbara, I have spoken to my daughter over the internet and, although they are tired and trying to cope with time being 4 hours ahead, they are enjoying Dubai. Their apartment is bigger than their house in Dublin and looks out on to the marina. The kids are loving running around there. Barbara, I reread your post about the blankets for the palms and you didn't confuse me, I confused myself.

Joan, yes the dog is good company. He is funny at times. He won't eat his dinner unless I pretend to wipe (did put another word here but it was banned as being spam) my dinner in to his bowl.

Been over to dad's house again today. Not much left now. My brother managed to dismantle the larger furniture. Some things have been sold and will be picked up this weekend. Lots went to the tip. While I was on my own for a few minutes, I just sat and I'm sure I heard echoes of mam laughing and one of my sisters shouting "Who's turn is it to put the kettle on?" Happy memories but also felt as if I was saying goodbye to mam again. The others said they felt the same way. It's something we all go through and I know we will all come to terms with it all. Looking forward to doing nothing tomorrow for the first time in 2 months.

    Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

^ just a guess applerose, maybe it's the bit inside the s and the ed? :? (TK posted while I was writing, excuse my being out of sequence).

Hello everyone, I have taken a hold of myself and caught up a bit now. Got my bloods done, now just rheumy to see, & a few more things caught up on. :) Missed the rain by going out yesterday not today. Picked up some xmas cards and got some really nice books in the charity shop so pleased with that. Today was awful, really rough & wet - hope no-one got caught in it.

Barbara I was even more confused about the palms - as I bizarrely decided you meant the palms of your hands, until I twigged. ..applerose's misreading was at least one somebody sensible could make. Hope you had a nice afternoon whatever you did in the end. Went out for a quick 10min walk this evening and saw a few fireworks in the distance but most started later on. Like you I would be no good standing at a bonfire 'do' - and I couldn't look up either  so they would have to be very low-level fireworks.

Hope everyone's pets and foster-pets (applerose's doggy guest) are ok and have coped with the fireworks. Hope they haven't been too noisy for TK & family too.

Hope mig had a good day too and carried on picking up from the infection so that it didn't affect the trip too much. Must have been lovely to see the poppies in person and then to know your own will arrive in due course (I think you said you had put your name down, if that's right).

Joan I find online shopping really very useful, I only have a small freezer compartment but another fridge as well so I can get some frozen & a reasonable amount of refrigerable. It's not easy to plan what fresh things to buy so they will keep, I try and go out to top up fruit&veg but only sometimes. Glad to hear sue came home Wednesday. :) Hope things are going alright with having carers calling. Well done with the injections, I manage my own but I would find it really hard to do someone else's, as Kath said.

Hope they get around to fixing your lighting Kath. I confess I am laughing at the 'ooer missus' way you could read this
    kathleenT wrote:
They have two electricians, one is on paternity leave and the the other can't do it as he needs someone to hold the ladder for him
(if you chose to be that childish  ):lol: It is also v funny read as intended, needless to say. Hope you can sort all your clothing layers out so they work.

Sorting your dad's house sounds to be going steadily but hard to do, applerose, will another trip do it now you say there is not much left.. Lots of memories. We moved so much that a lot of my memories are hazy & mixed-up, without one family home to get really attached to, maybe that's easier in some ways. Hope you have a better visit with Dad soon. Tough coming at the same time as your daughter's move, hope you do get to do nothing now for a little while as planned.

Glad things seem ok with you TK though hope not too much disturbance from coughing at night. Glad you were able to get together for your Dad's 70th and Dan was alright. :) Hope you're managing with getting back into the school routine. Making headway through the photos now I hope, I can imagine it is getting a bit wearing like any repetitive task. Yes, gaming can be good escapism :D I was in a 'guild' once because someone kindly let me join but I'm not really a born gamer so it was a bit of a sympathy thing & I was not much use. People do get incredibly into it but I'm just in it for fun & less nowadays.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, nothing planned for me; have got a very nice winter spicy toasting loaf at the moment, I can recommend it for elevenses tomorrow with a hot coffee if anyone wants. :) ( Sorry long post, feel free to only read 1 sentence in 10.)

Fraid I haven't stopped coughing and am regularly woken up throughout the night. I must drive everybody mad with the coughing and frequent trips to the loo!
Thankfully I managed to catch up a couple of hours rest during the day.

Hope you are keeping warm and enjoying the toasty cake.

    Good Morning everyone :)

Elizabeth I hope that horrible cold disappears soon  You might disturb the others a bit, but you will be suffering more :( ((()))

I think you're probably right about Christine's Dad not realising that the move is permanent.

Thank you for being so kind, but you know yourself, having kids that you just do what has to be done. It's the hoiking out of the bath that's doing me in :( Shame Lucy prefers baths to showers. Sometimes if they're here the girls help out :)

    Christine
I still vividly remember clearing out my parents' bungalow after my Mum died 7 years ago now. Luckily we had never actually lived there with them myself, sister or brother. The family memories evoked by all the things we unearthed were so similar to yours especially as we kept smelling pipe tobacco when my Dad had gone 4 years earlier.:( In some ways I hope it is a little easier as your dear Dad is still with us.

I am glad your daughter and family sound so happy and settled.

I hope you enjoy a quiet and restful day today ((()))

Joan I am so happy to hear that Sue is safely at home where she should be. I take it nurse Joan
s040.gif has a sharps box like me at home? ;)

Toady That loaf is nice - I have had a slice popped in the toaster with extra fat butter on it for breakfast not elevensies - I couldn't wait ;)

My nephew is a 'proper' gamer - he lives a sort of dual-life with work here in the day and in the small hours gaming will people form America mostly. My eldest Charley, was a mad Sims fanatic at one time. She used to worry about them too much though it wasn't good for her :?

Barbara you had SUN??? we had torrential rain ALL day yesterday!!! Poor Daisycat sulked most of it :wink:s010.gif

I hope you and your OH had a good day out and made the most of it. I bet the rain came to you overnight.

I am so sorry to hear that mig is poorly :( Mig get well soon :? ((())) I hope the trip to see the poppies (and the rest of London) was/is good :)

KathT - I have a feeling that not so many could afford to waste money on fireworks this year because it has been better here too. Last night it rained so much it was silent! Tonight though I expect some organised displays.

This time last year we had some (not many) at home with the kids their OHs (except Lucy's she had a friend) and Lucy was well. Weird. She had her hair then too.

It is indeed fair chilly now with little/no hair. You keep warm :)

    I hope I haven't missed anyone

Elizabeth, yes, I have read that sometimes people live in a care home, or even their own home, for years and still ask about going home. At least, my dad can't remember how long he's been there and thinks it's less than it has been. There have been a few times I've ended up posting several small messages instead of one longer one because of things going wrong. I always feel I annoy people with a cough but then I think they can walk away from it, I can't.

Toady, glad you're catching up on things. I've still to make a rheumie and a dentist appointment. Hopefully that's all my apps till after Xmas. What are we like misreading things like Barbara's palms. I blame it on brain fog. My little granddog, Mango, did shiver for a few minutes when a particularly loud one went off but was fine the rest of the time. I have reread what Kath said about the electricians. There is the cooker and a set of wardrobes at dad's. Someone is picking them up at the weekend and a pile of things we are hoping a charity will come and collect. That's it now. Don't know if I'll ever go back to the house now, although one sister lives next door. I never lived in the house but mam and dad were there for about 30 years. We used to move about every 6 years or so before that. Think I'll have a slice of your spicy loaf with a cuppa. Sounds delicious.

Toni, I never lived in that house but mam and dad were there for 30 years so had all the things we'd bought them. At least we can keep the memories forever. I'm sat in bed having breakfast. Although I often do that on a Sunday, I have never done it on Saturday. And not for a few Sundays so I'm making the most of it. My sister, her husband and their 3 kids all had Simms families. They interacted and used to sabotage each other. It was really funny listening to what they did. Hope you and Lucy and the rest of the family are enjoying the weekend, despite the rain and not being able to go to the football match.

My sister told me that the nurse thinks dad has a kidney infection. That would explain how negative he was the other day when I visited. My sister checked his notes and found something which she didn't understand so she asked and, apparently, had has stage 4 kidney disease and there are only 5 stages, the last one being kidney failure. This means he will regularly get infections. Seems the hospital forgot to tell us about that.

The sun woke me up this morning but it was an hour after I normally wake up. My mind leapt up and jumped out of bed eager to start the day with the many things I want to do. Meanwhile, back in the real world ............ I'm sat in bed catching up and having breakfast. Think I'll go and get another cuppa. Hope the sun comes out for you all even if only for an hour or so.
