    '**** smell'??

Bit naughty polluting library book I think

Glad you were as confused as I was :D

Reading One Step Too Far by Tina Seskis

Shattered was ok I think, but yes a book using the usual formula I think.

    Love

I think a good book can help you through a bad flare because it takes your mind off it for a while when you are reading!

My holiday is booked at last, got a few books on my kindle so that will be my reading material!! Can't wait except for leaving my babies, going to interview a couple of pet sitters over next couple of weeks see which I feel happier with!

Yes, Toni. The book actually had a few strands of baccy in it too! Shattered is ok so far - just passing the time really! Got a few on order at the library and then I'll be well away!

Bubba- let me know how you get on with pet sitters cos you aren't that far away from us and I might want one at some point. Although, as I am thinking I might leave the hounds at home too (thinking eurodisney!) the sitter will need to be multi pet talented! The dogs can go to kennels but the only kennels I like is quite pricey and I think they would prefer to be at home with someone.

I am also quite close by, but used my two eldest as pet-sitters for Daisycat :D

They really DO prefer to be at home I think, much less traumatic.

Eurodisney sounds good Frogmella and Amanda where are you going??

Reading Finding Cordelia by Sally Patricia Gardner now. Finished On Step too Far yesterday.

Baccy in a book  Bit disrespectful that I think.

    Love

I found a lot just by googling 'pet sitters in ..... (my area)' and a few on yell.com. We've used 'Animals at home' before they are good and reasonably priced. Also look on the board at your vets a lot advertise on there. Hope you find one. I feel it's less stressful for your babies to stay at home while you go on holiday. :)

Thanks for the tips! It is not quite so urgent because my surgeon says no roller coasters until 2 years post op so 18 months to wait! Oh, I saw him today and he is still really pleased. I am 23 weeks and 2 days post op now and I feel great! Wish I had done it last year when I first went to see him.

Hey don't do 'what if's' to yourself!! Your 23 weeks and 3 days (now!) post op! And you have something to aim for, The cat sitter I interviewed yesterday was lovely and he got on great with 'the kids' especially Willow she loves him. So I've asked him to book me in and he will take care of them for me. I will let you know his name & number if I'm happy with him after he's looked after them!!

Hope you have a good weekend, how's the book coming along?

Ladies & Gents it's nearly that time of the month again!! So if any of you feel you have a recommendation for September's Book Of The Month could you let me know in the next week or so......Thank you guys. :D

Don't worry Bubba - I'm not that down about it! I feel great now and my only regret is delaying my decision and that is a small regret I think. If that makes sense? I am just amazed at being able to make plans. I will never take being pain free for granted. I know I am very lucky.

The book is going OK. I have a few waiting for collection at the library. I will think about BOTM now!

Hope your cat sitter is good. My cousin's girlfriend is a pet sitter, but she only works within 20 miles of Halesowen so no good for me.

EDIT - Just looked at the three books waiting for me at the library - they are Calling me Home by Julie Kibler, Where'd you go Bernadette by Maria Semple and The Night Rainbow by Claire King. They all have good am@$on ratings - Calling me home the highest. BUt the Night rainbow looks cheapest on kindle. Do any of you fancy any of these for Sept BOTM?

I have to admit Toni all 3 books look good, 'calling me home' & 'the night rainbow' are similar in the fact they are more emotional stories where as 'Where did you go Bernadette?' is more fun. I think I would enjoy 'Where did you go Bernadette?' more. I was thinking if we have no more recommendations we could have all three books as 'September's Book Of The Month' So you can choose which one you prefer to read,What does everybody think?

I came across a book in yesterday's Kindle's daily deals called 'Dizzee Rascal and the birth of Grime'. Now I like Dizzee Rascal and that style of music so I was interested in the book and it was only £1.99 so it went straight on my Kindle!! Now I have 4 books to choose from for my holiday!! :D

I finished Shatter by Michael Robotham yesterday. I think you might all have read it? Anyway, it was fairly usual thriller/whodunnit fare. I enjoyed it. Turns out I hadn't read it before - or if I had I never remembered! I reckon ***

I started Calling me Home by Julie Kibler just. Two chapters in and I like it! All three look good now that I have them. Bubba - I think Calling me home is definitely one of those split-time books that you don't like! Could have all three if you like - but then I feel awfully responsible!

Toni, you wouldn't be responsible for them!! The fact they are different styles gives everyone a chance to choose which one they fancy as their read for Book Of The Month, I will add the book I found. So there is a choice of 4 books for September's Book Of The Month just choose the book you would like to read. The Choices are:-

Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler

The Night Rainbow by Claire King

Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple

Stand Tall:Dizzee Rascal And The Birth Of Grime by Dan Hancox

Hello all, I am back from my hols. I read lots of books, and enjoyed them all. Will post reviews when I get a minute. Being very lazy at the moment and reading when I should be doing washing!!!

    Hope all are well :D

With regards to pets, I think petsitting is a good idea. I would be interested to know how you get on Amanda. Do they just feed and let the cats in and out? My eldest son stayed at home so he looked after Izzy fortunately. I couldn't bear to put her in a cattery, I don't think she would ever forgive me or survive it. She is a gentle soul.

Calling me Home by Julie Kibler
I know this is on the list for September BOTM but I just finished it so am reviewing it now while it is still fresh in my mind.
It is a story told while two women, Isabelle - older, white lady and Dorrie - younger, black lady, travel for two days to a funeral. Dorrie is Isabelle's hairdresser and friend. It is Isabelle who has been called to the funeral and she asks Dorrie to drive her due to her advanced years.
Along the way Isabelle's story comes out. When she was 16/17 in 1939 she fell in love with Robert who was the son of the help. Obviously this was not allowed back then and so there were all sorts of obstacles in their way.
The front of the book says it is for fans of THe Help. This is true in as much as it makes you think about the way black people were treated so recently. Makes you appalled really. But the story is not similar at all. It is a Romeo and Juliet story really.
It made me sad but I thought it was really good so *****

Thank you for the review Toni, You must have enjoyed it to read it so fast!! I think it makes a book more interesting if the story is based on true history. Black slavery was a disgusting thing and the way they where treated and made to live, you wouldn't do it to a dog these days, it makes you think about it while reading. Have you chosen your next read yet? Have a good weekend!

Sounds really good Frogmella so I think I will have to read that one for sure.

I bought The Sunday Girls by Maureen Reynolds because it's set in Dundee where my sister lives :)

    Has anyone seen Legs lately??

Suzygirl you read - the washing won't be going anywhere  Glad you have done lots of reading on your hols. Daisycat is 'sat' by her sisters (the two 18 year olds  )

Amanda is the Night Rainbow by THE Claire King?? She has RA if I remember rightly.

    Love to everyone

Yes, Toni, The Night Rainbow is by Claire King. I think I might read that one next. It isn't very big so expect a review pronto!

Yes, I did enjoy that last book, although I nearly cried at the end. If I hadn't been reading it in bed next to Mr F I reckon I would have!

I had a lovely day thanks Toni :D

Very late book review now for Blink of an Eye by Cath Staincliffe

This book dragged a little in its predictable storyline. A family's life is overturned when Naomi allegedly drives home from a party drunk and kills a 9 year old girl cyclist. Naomi also loses her memory. It turns out as you would expect it too.

    3*

I think I am glad I didn't manage to get Blink of an Eye from the library now!

The Night Rainbow by Claire King
Pea is five and a half. She spends most of her days playing in the meadows around their french home with her little sister, Margot who is four. Their Papa died, recently and Maman is now heavily pregnant and depressed. The story is told by Pea. One day they meet Claude an older man and his dog, Merlin. Claude befriends them. It is difficult to tell whether his intentions are honourable due to the story being told by Pea! I won't say any more for fear of spoiling things.
I really enjoyed this book. Pea is ace. ****/*****

On a rubbish note Mr Fox paid a visit this morning and killed two of my hens - Luna and Annie Peck. They were the earlier risers. It is difficult - I keep the chickens to try and give them the best, free range life I can but the risk is always a daylight fox attack. They are safely locked in the house from dusk to dawn by the automatic pop hole opener/closer. The last three times the fox has come now it has been light. I think that isn't playing by the rules.

That sucks Frogmella. I can remember when a fox came next door and killed their rabbit, the little girl was so upset especially when he re-visited two nights later and dug up the remains of the buried rabbit. Nature is so cruel sometimes :(
