Hi all, I am flaring so planning a sofa day today, although finding it hard to switch off.

Marrianne, that sounds painful, hope you feel better soon.

Toni, I have split second on my kindle to read. I have been reading Dying for Justice by L.J.Sellers it was quite a good read, so I have looked at reading the series. Also read Rainbirds Revenge by M.C.Beaton it is a fun easy, lighthearted read. Just the thing when you feel rough, the vertigo can make it hard to concentrate so I need something to take my mind off it.

Have a great weekend Book readers :D

I am still reading The Universe versus Alex Woods and really enjoying it. It is funny and sad all at the same time. I just picked up The crimson from the library - you weren't kidding when you said it was big!!!

Have we got an October BOTM yet? Has polly been back? Hope we didn't scare her off....

The shining girls, Toni. Yes might be a good holiday read due to the bitty start! Once I got over that it was pretty good!

The Universe Versus Alex Woods by David Extence
I really enjoyed this book. Some of the subject matter was a little bit dark but it was told in such a straightforward voice that it made it OK. It opens with Alex at the age of 17 getting arrested as he comes back into Dover. He the back tracks to tell you his story right from when he was about 10 I think. So when he was 10 Alex got hit on the head by a meteor which put him in a coma for two weeks from which he wasn't expected to wake. But he did. A few months later he develops temporal lobe epilepsy which causes him all sorts of problems to begin with. He is a straightforward kid, a bit like the boy out of the curious incident of the dog in the night time, and he tells you his story fairly bluntly - which appeals to me as I am quite blunt, black and white too!
We then follow his life up to the point of his arrest.
I loved it so will award *****

Off to read the crimson now. I might be some time.......

I do hope our poorly bookworms are feeling a good bit better now? That scald sounds a bad one Marrianne :? and suzygirl - a flare on top of vertigo sounds 'orrible :x grr!!!

    Love to everyone

I lied - I read The Burning by Jane Casey because I had already renewed it once and the crimson isn't reserved by anyone else.
Anyway, The Burning is a whodunnit/cop book. There is a serial killer on the loose who burns his victims once they are dead. Maeve is a cop on the team trying to catch him. Usual murder mystery type really with the usual following the detective's love life etc at the same time. It was a good one though, although I did work out who dunnit! I reckon ***/****

I am really going to read the crimson now. Honest injun!

Toni - I have read Split Second. Last august though! Might have a review on here way back in the depths! My book journal comments look like I enjoyed it though! Was one that made me think.

I have just finished Calling me home by Julie Kibler, it is about a rich white girl who falls in love with her maids son who is black in 1939. The story gripped me from the first page, told in the form of a conversation during a car journey when the girl is now 90. I loved this book and if I didn't have Sjorgens, I would have cried.

    *****/*****

Hope you are all well and planning a lovely weekend. I have gout I think  , looked it up and my duiretic causes it, so at least I know why! Excuse to sit and read at least!:lol::lol:

Hi Bookworms! Guess who's back?! Got two reviews for you and a book for Book of the month for you!! I had a great holiday and so did Arnie & Willow!! They didn't miss us!

Stand Up Tall: Dizzee Rascal & The Birth Of Grime By Dan Hancox
This book was very interesting if you are into Dizzee Rascal and hip hop and R&B. It was very informative and went through the history of where Dizzee Rascal started upto where he is now and how the music started. I thoroughly enjoyed it as it's the type of music I like and read it in 3 days! I recommend it if you are a Dizzee Rascal fan but it wouldn't be to everyone's taste.

    Rating:- ****

    Room by Emma Donogue
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it kept me interested and I couldn't put it down. The way it was written through the eyes of Jack made it more endearing even though the back story is so horrific. The book holds your attention right to the end. And I can see why the Author was short listed for the booker prize. I recommend it to anybody who hasn't read it yet.

    Rating: *****

I was given a book from a women we met on holiday after I told her about this book club and she said to me she was given it as it was highly recommended. It's called 'Oh Dear Silva by Dawn French It's a novel, which is funny and easy to read. If you would like it for October's Book of the month let me know otherwise we can bank it for another month. :)
