Just picked up Seating Arrangements from the library. Is it awful that I want to abandon all of my plans for the day (chores mostly) and start reading?!!

    Sounds very sensible to me!
He did not say you will not be storm tossed, you will not be sore distressed, you will not be work weary. He said you will not be overcome.

We are all entitled to a day of relaxing/chilling, I'm always telling my OH have a day totally for you and what you want to do, after all he goes to work full-time 5 days a week and on top that he cares for me and looks after the house. Just one day away from doing all that is more than allowed!

I have just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It was horrific and brilliant at the same time. The women in this book are incredible and I am not sure what to call them. They are treated terribly but there are also some wonderful men and families who at least give some balance to the story. It makes you think about the terrible things that continue to happen but it also makes you realise that our Western view is not the only one.

I would give A Thousand Splendid Suns 5 stars - it was excellent.

Seating Arrangements is a little bit like Marmite - you either like or you don't. I enjoyed it but there have been mixed reviews.

Amazon have some good offers for kindle books at the moment, they have a summer sale of 80% off and also 500 books from 0.99p. I had a good look through yesterday and found 2 I liked the look of they where Unintended Consequences by Marti Green It's a legal thriller and also Beautifully Damaged by L.A. Fiore A dark romance read. So 2 more books to add to my ever growing read list! The sale on Amazon is worth a look as you may find a read or 2 or 3! that can be saved until later. Or even for a BOTM recommendation.

My Aunty recommended Sue Townsend " The Queen and I". I know it is from back in the early Nineties, but I did think it quite good, light reading. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on this book. I like Edna O'Brien books, have read quite a few of her books, but at a loss to what to read for the week-end please? :)

I have read that one. silky sam, but a long time ago so I can't tell you anything about it! There is a book site I look at called lovereading.com and it has a "if you like this author then you'll like this one" tool. Also they e-mail me monthly with the latest reads. My list grows ever longer!! You could also search through our thread - we have read and reviewed loads of books. I have never read edna o'brien so can't make suggestions based on that, sorry!

SilkySam Firstly welcome to The Book Club , if you fancy reading something of a different genre to what you normally read you will find plenty of reviews on here. Also do you buy your books from Amazon? If so as I have mentioned Amazon has a summer sale on at the moment and it is worth taking a look. Do you have a Kindle or do you read paperback/Hardback books?

Hope all Bookies have a good weekend and if the weather does decide to make the weekend a washout you can all get your heads in a book. :)

Well the weather has enabled me to finish another book but has not helped in the packing of my caravan ready for the holidays which are fast approaching! I started reading One Plus One by Jojo Moyes but was not inspired but thinking perhaps it was me, I picked up another one of hers called The Girl You Left Behind which was much better. I wouldn't say it was a classic but it was a good read with two interconnected but parallel stories and I would recommend it as a 'good holiday read'.
I will attempt One Plus One again at a later date as perhaps it was just me being over critical but it has been shunted down the list a little.
As I have already read the BOTM, I am now reading The Secrets Women Keep by Fanny Blake. I haven't read enough yet to form a proper opinion but, unfortunately it does not have me absolutely hooked yet. Perhaps another few pages will persuade me otherwise :|
    Happy reading folks :D

To be honest I'm find Seating Arrangements a little slow I wonder if any of you who have read it would agree? I'm going to keep at it and try and finish it as I'm quarter of the way through now. The weather being so pants is giving me the chance to get some good reading in.

I am finding Seating Arrangements a tad slow too, Bubba. Not that I think it is a bad book but it isn't really a page turner for me! I only have about 40 pages left and then I can start the books I picked up today: Before We Met by Lucie Whitehouse and NOS4A2 by Joe Hill.

I have been decorating so not had as much time to read as I would like. But I sneaked off for an hour today and did a bit!

I'm glad it's not just me finding Seating Arrangements slow! Will go for something with a little excitement for my next read! Will have to decide which one when I finish the book that's if I don't fall a sleep reading it!!

Well my fellow other members it's the weekend and also the start of the Premiership Season! My OH is off to The Hawthorns tomorrow (West Bromwich Albion's Ground!) to watch them play Sunderland so I will have some peace & Quiet!!

Haha! Bubba - another coincidence - I am off to the Hawthorns tomorrow too!! We listen on Free Radio 80s and I have a little flutter on goalscorers - I know! Anyway I got into it that way and we went twice last year. Mr F is a proper fan though! They are unveiling the statue of Tony "Bomber" Brown tomorrow I think. He is the summariser on the show.

I am enjoying Before We Met so far.

Before We Met by Lucie Whitehouse
This was a real pageturner for me - as you can tell by the short amount of time since my last review! It is about Hannah who married Mark only about 8 months ago after being together for a short time. They married while they both lived in New York but shortly returned to London due to his business arrangements. It begins with Hannah going to meet Mark off his plane back from NY at Heathrow but he isn't there. She can't get through to him on the phone and doesn't hear from him that night. After that she discovers money has gone from her savings and a few other things and the mystery goes from there.
It is a tense story but I had to keep going to find out who had done what and why.
    I enjoyed it so ****

Have got NOS4A2 by Joe Hill to start now. He's the one who is Stephen King's son. Also got We are all completely beside ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler.

Before We Met Sounds a really good read will have to add it to my list! I gave up on Seating Arrangements on Saturday after I actually fell asleep while reading it! So I decided to choose a book, an actual book (Yep I'm reading a paperback book!) from my 'Still to read' bookshelf'. It's called The Bling Ring by Nancy Jo Sales it's a true story about a group of teenagers who target and burgle celebrity homes. It's really good so far and I've had to pull myself away from it when I'm needed. So far so good!

"It's a shame that I don't have the time to commit to a Book club. Otherwise would have liked to join in. If it's alright, I could leave my thoughts on books that I'm reading? I'm always look for recommendations too!

Right now, I'm in the middle of reading The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht. The writing is good with a lot going on in the plot, perhaps disjointed in places. It isn't a cover-to-cover read but does get you thinking about it all day long. Enjoying it so far....."

Hi bookworms! Bubba is not very well at all at the moment and she has asked me to deputise for her during her absence. Therefore I am asking for some BOTM suggestions for September. Any ideas? I did really enjoy Before We Met but am always keen to read someone else's idea.
