Hello there to you all,

I just found this website today after reaching the end of my rope (almost) finding out about potentially another year before i get my hip replacement On NHS. The last 6 months have been a rapid progression in pain and although i keep as active as possible (bit of walking/cycling/swimming) the movement on the joint is very restricted. I take meds when necessary- Naproxen/co-codomol/lidocane patches/ice therapy/ but nothing really helps. Today i went and bought in desperation some good quality fish oils and turmeric extract (££), although i watch my diet and avoid the nightshades. Really just interested if anyone could recommend good experiences with alternative therapy, other medical drugs etc etc. Feeling alone, moany and really down emotionally- even though the sun's shining for the first time this year up in my neck of the woods!. Thanks in advance for any advice, V

    Hi @VGi

Have you tried a tens machine? I swear by mine and used them for at least 20 years. That's 2 machines, both the same brand so although they're not cheap to buy, they do last a very long time. Mine is an own brand by that faithful footwear company that is not shoes 😂

I use their wired version that takes 3 x AAA batteries that last a long time. It has three options, TENS, Massage and one that i never used and can't remember lol. Each has more than one option for power. The pads are easily purchased in bulk off any online selling shop, cheaper than buying in the shop. I store mine in an I-Phone sized cross body bag which I can use to put the machine in when i'm wired up. On bad days I just keep it on and switch the machine on as and when I need to.

I had my THR on the right side last May and the best thing I ever did. If you are in England, you do have the right to choose which hospital you have your surgery in using NHS Choices. Speak to your GP/Physio. I think their default is just your local hospital but that's not the best option in most cases. I was lucky enough to be referred to my local private hospital, paid for by the NHS, by my lovely physio.

Good luck and there are a lot of people here that are either waiting for surgery or have had surgery who are all too willing to answer those silly questions.

    Trish xx
