Recently Diagnosed

Hi All,

I’m 38 and recently been diagnosised with PA. I have stated a course of steroids which are working and reducing some swelling, I started methotrexate which had to be stopped due to liver problems. Now the pain is much worse affecting daily life, irratible and low mood.

Still struggling to come to terms with the diagnosis, as my body is just not letting me do what I used to or want to.

Any help of tips would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome @Blov47 to the community,

It is always a struggle when first diagnosed because there will be so many questions and what if scenarios going round in your heads. Trying to cope with the physical side of your condition , the emotional strain and then the readjustments to the present as well as your future lifestyle is a huge lot to come to terms with.

If you think it would help to talk to someone the Helpline number is 0800 5200 520.

I attach some information which I hope you will find helpful

    https://www.versusarthritis.org/news/2022/february/meditation-and-mindfulness-and-how-it-might-help-you/

At the end of the mindfulness page there is an introduction to a full body stretching video. This is part of a whole set of exercise videos which many of us find particularly helpful and may be something you could consider trying.

There are other medications that your medical team may prescribe since Methotrexate does not suit you and your G P may suggest help with your moods and irritability.

Be patient with yourself whilst you come to terms with everything. We are here for you.

    Best wishes
