OH Cris, so glad it was a good day for you.......I think you may have to wait a bit before the MTX begin to work and if you find you get some nausea.......get your new docs to give you anti-sickie pills, they work a treat for me.

I've never had more than minimal side effects, but do get a bit of nausea the day after taking them.

What dose did he start you on? Are you increasing the dose every other week? Only asking 'cos I've got a couple more comments to make if you are.........

Hey, if you don't get the midline in May........there will be a bus load of us there with our secret weapon........Trish and her chair.......to take 'em on!

Hi Chris,

Its another immune suppressor cus the sulfa didn't work and the eye doctor said it would be better for the optic neuritis than steroid so thats 2 reasons to want it and I was reading up about its use with crohn's as well so thats 3 reasons to want it I used to be so hostile towards having it bu recently, with the help of Legs and Wonky, I not only came round to it but actually was gong to ask for it today

Going to skive off tomorrow Chris its indoors with strip lighting an my eyes just wont take that just now.....

I can't see the box well enough to read the mg but its low and 4 tablets so not sure what that would be about 10 maybe? I read its 2.5 per tablet I think but can't trust my eyes inside 3 feet and well one is all but 'blind' just now cus its got too much fog and dancing black lines in it........ Not so good that bit :roll:

He is leaving me on a low does till I see him in May I think...... he said that its not really ideal cus of some of the other conditions but we could give it a go and it might help the eyes and well nothing else will so......

I got a load of written stuff but can't actually read it but and seeing a mate over the week end and they can translate it for me with luck.

I got to test out the new doctors for bloods oh and he gave me back the diclos again Hey if I do a sale (normally) sat, sun and thursday what is the best day to take this? I took them tonight as soon as I came out the chemist but can change it if that wasn't wise........

I don't do well on preds Annie so the mtx might be just what I need

He is asking someone else to do the midline and has already sounded them out so he said he will make sure it ids done...... Bless him he see's me mid drip so has a vested interest this next time I shall be seeing hi dragging the drip and a cannula else xx

Ah but eye sight is a good incentive to take ANYTHING I have to say so is the crohn's actually....... Oh oh I haven't got CT s thats good as well.... this is just joint degeneration and swelling but with luck, if I have understood anything, the mtx might stop both though can't undo anything that may have happened?

I got a load of leaflets etc but can't actually read then just now.....

I got the folic acid but he uses it just the next day so i might buy some not least cus I think its one of the vit B's? I don't absorb that too well if the crohn's is kicking and hell is that kicking :roll:

I am so glad for the help you people already on it have given me cus I used to be absolutely terrified of it and now.... soon as I got it I took it.......

Hope your feeling much better now? I kind think I wont have any improvment till the 8th or so week but the sulfa took over 4 months and then only worked for a week or so but even a week would be nice now

With luck I will have a good reaction, especially for the eyes us they are the worst thing just ow really....... hey do you think it will help me shear these sheepsis? ((( ))) xx

Cris, 10mg weekly would sound about right. I was started on 12.5 but it was a shot in the dark which came off! I was lucky.

It sounds to me as if Mondays would be your best day to allow time for any side effects...........but don't go and take another lot next Monday!!!!!

If you go a month on it with minimal side effects you could always ring him and ask if you can put it up 1 tab a week.........every little helps as they say.

You made me laugh, too.........I was so horrified at having to take it that I put it off for weeks and there you are necking it on the way home!

Its 4 tablets and well next week I think I will have to see if I can remember to take them sunday night then? I am skiving tomorrow cus the strip lights are so bad for this stupid eye....

I will try and read the label at least and I will have loads of questions I think.....

Going to have to go rest this idiotic eye and maybe when its stopped jumping i will be able to read the mg? ((( ))) xx

I shall do as he says, promise, but I already have a vit B deficiency so will take the extras as well. Vit B is digested in the small intestine and mine just aint working too well just now :roll:

Tis 10 of the mtx and also 10 of the folic acid the day after. I could read that folic one cus its a blue packet and big writing....... The other is yellow and white (not a good combination ) but they are 2.5 cus they have to be and 4 of em is 10 eh?

They could give you one tablet
x 10 mg of methotrexate. It is easier than 4 tabs x 2.5mg. Just a thought.
I take 2 x 10mg. There is no way I would take 8 tabs of 2.5mg so I made them change it. I dont take folic at all because I didnt like it.

Hope it works well but might take upto 12 weeks (have you got 12 weeks)?

HI Cris,

only just catching up cos had a bit of a wobble the last few days and didn't get on here :oops: :oops:

Glad you got the MTX - and 10mg is about right for starting dose.

If your rheumy has only prescribed the folic acid once a week at the higher dose then I'd see how you get on with that - taking any more
(and you can not buy the stronger ones over the counter) could cause problems for you later on.

As for when to take the MTX - it is trial and error, but do be careful if you change days ...... I was always told that there must be 5 full days clear as a minimum between two doses (sometimes a change of day can't be helped) but there is a bit of leaway if you need it.

I find that I am worst on the 2 days after the MTX but I am on 17.5mg MTX byt injection and 10,g of Leflunomide so it's not a good comparison ...... soo how you go.

I really hope it works for you and that the cat scratch thing is positive and they can do something for it!!!!

Its made me feel sick and wished for 2 days BUT its still less horrible than the sulfa that was making me feel ill every time I took them.....

I got someone to red the leaflet and it says if you 'forget' for 2 days its ok to take them so will take them on sunday this week so I will be fit for something by Thursdays sale, if it ever stops raining!
