Hello all you wonderful people!
I have so missed you all :!:
Before I say another word I have to say a huge big THANK YOU to my winged pigeon buddie Skezier (Cris) for keeping me company every day by text and bringing me all your messages of love and support . She has been just wonderful! thanks Cris!
....I have only just read all your messages on the Dorcas thread, laughed, cried and been so moved by the wealth of support...thanks peeps for being with me! ....and the flowers! so beautiful... a zillion (HUGS) to all. xxxxxx
My son has rigged up my lap top so's I can now work it using one finger! great stuff eh.. but I am very slow ....
My op was bit more complicated but surgeon pleased with the outcome so far. He did the wrist replacement but also took head ff the ulna and capped it, and transferred tendon from the radial side of the hand to the ulnar side...moved other tendons over to straighten the hand and give xtra support.
It has been very painful...no point pretending otherwise...and my arm was black almost up to the shoulder. Am still on morphine and not been up much but doing finger exercises and having it elevated to allow the bleeding and swelling to go.
My daughters and twin sis have been taking really good care of me and am spoiled rotten! older sis arrives today to take over so getting star treatment...
I am so excited and pleased to have it done! grinning like a cheshire cat!
The surgeon was great and couldn't been better looked after. Had GA but they also did nerve block which lasted 24hrs so had no pain whatsoever...only trouble was arm was like block of wood and fell on me a couple of times! also fingers moved on their own which looked menacing
Am going to hosp tomorrow afternoon get plaster off and think stitches out, x ray and new cast on which will be lighter...
thanks everyone for your company in theatre....I kid you not when I say you were who I thought of when I was waiting for the anaesthetic...could hear the red bus engine and felt all the love and support beside me...
ready now for MASH

Hello Iris!
Welcome back. I'm pretty new on here so have been reading and posting on the threads about you so I know that you are loved and thought of every day by people on here.
Today this site seems to be full of good news
Don't wear that working finger out posting all day though!
Sending you lots of positive thoughts that you get some relief from pain pronto and speedy recovery.
Many hugs (((( )))), Carol x0 -
Well Iris - or Handy Andy as I`ve been calling you! - me old luv, I can`t tell you how lovely it is to see you posting again. Sounding very positive too.
Isn`t it heart warming when family come to take care of us. in our times of need? Like yours, mine treated me like a queen, but, you know what, after a couple of weeks, I wanted them to go home, and let me get on with! Too used to doing things my own way!!
I wondered how "your boys" were without you. Bet you got a rapturous welcome when you arrived home.
Had a bit of bad news - well not for my son!- regarding Chomsky coming to stay. He was out walking her, and met the owner of the house they are to rent for a little while. Yep, you guessed. She fell in love with Chom, and has said she can go with them. I`m so pleased for him, as at eleven, she should end her days with her dad. Disappointed though,
Enjoy the spoiling, and when you start wanting to get the place back to yourself, you`ll know that you really are on the mend......Much love......Ange.0 -
WOW! WOW! WOW! Fabulous! I'll go and sober up the staff. I should talk. Lost a day yesterday. Couldn't move. Ho-hum. Your Diabolical Damsel.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello Iris
Great to see you back.. sounds like a really pioneering operation - definitely a few 'papers' to be written about you, I think!!
So glad that you were allowed morphine when you were discharged - I was rally worried you were just going to have to manage on 2 Paracetamol!! (I know hospitals aren't keen on letting people stay on morphine...)
I agree with Hileena - don't overdo the one-finger typing ..
Best wishes

Hey Iris, - you're posting again - you typed all that with one finger!!! That's determination for you!!
The op sounds amazing - but no wonder you are so sore and swollen. At least you still have the morphine to help you through ... better start eating the prunes though!!
How long do you have to wear the lighter cast for?
I'm so glad you have your sister and daughters helping you ... enjoy the pampering.
You feature in quite a few threads - on this and the chat forum - have you found them all ... ?
Bet you feel better now you have access the internet again ... it's like my bush telegram equivelent !
Love and best wishes,
Take care,
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

Hey Iris it is great to see you on here
so pleased that you felt the support of the forum when you needed it ..... and thanks for letting us know how you are getting on.
do take it easy and I really hope that when you get the lighter cast on it will be a lot easier for you.
As Ange says ... enjoy the pampering while you can, but don't be worried when you want to shoo them all away

Iris, how good to see you back so quickly! As everyone else has said just don't overdo anything, least of all the one-finger typing.
Hope you get relief (and stop attempting to knock yourself out) once you have the lighter cast.
My thanks to the pigeon, too........don't know what we (and a number of animals) would do without her!

Yup, three cheers for the lovely skezier! She has been superb. I can't do the lovely flowers thing - that's skezier's and trisher's area of expertise, so I'll do what I can manage. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi iris,
Just dropping in a bucket full of ((((( ))))) and hopes for a decent night and a really good result tomorrow.
Sleep well and don't overdo the typing. Love Cris xxx
Hi page,
Bubbles and ((( )))'s xxx0 -
Hi Iris
Glad to see you back with us. You sound very positive about your wrist operation. The surgeon seems to have put a lot of effort into your operation. It takes time to recover from surgerical procedures. Can you use ice packs for the swelling? After my TKR I was black and blue the whole length of my leg.
It helps when you have the support and love of your family. It shows they care and love you.
Good luck with everything.

Just checking in and hoping you are still being spoilt by those who love you. and that you continue to get better and better.
LOve and hugs
Toni xx0 -
morning all! hope sun's shining where you are today.
thanks for all good wishes....would like to answer each individually but typing is such a frustration, I hope you don't mind me being short on responses. xxx
wrist still very painful but swelling has gone down a good bit now, and bruising.....which isn't painful at all btw.......is changing colour too and is green, black yellow and deep red in various places!. my grandson visiting last night said my fingers and arm look like the arm of a putrid zombie!! great eh?....... trust kids to keep you grounded! he then took pics to show his friends!
so you can see I'm doing fine...
Im getting myself geared up for my first venture out this afternoon back to hospital . Im really keen to see what the wrist looks like and will be asking see x ray too.
my other (fused) left wrist has had to go back in a splint....nothing to do with the fusion which is great...it's cause of more arther in the ulna and finger joints so i now look like a crash victim!
my surgeon reminded me in theatre of the promise to operate on that hand again next year!
this one finger typing is the pits...will have to try the toes next. ha ha! can't remember which of you lovely peeps suggested that one.
am off now for some morphine induced beauty sleep before i get ready....lol
handy andy (thanks ange....owe you one)0 -
Morning Handy Andy,
Well I can't call you the zombie thing Kids are so good aren't they
You go careful with that other hand and hope you will get a look at the xrays cus I am fascinated by how they weld it all to the small bones...... what was saying about kids  I really hope it will settled better with a lighter plaster on and leaving you a ((((( ))))), a cuppa, several best bits of dandelion, chick weed and some nice fresh meadow grass Love Cris xxx0
