    Hi Iris/Handy Andy(!)

glad you have been enjoying the sunshine .... it has been mainly sunny here too. Sorry the wrist is still so painful, but at least the swelling is going down. Love the story about your grandson - very descriptive!! Children are so forthright aren't they?! Bet his friends were suitable impressed!!

I hated the house arrest aspect - though in reality trips out at first were very tiring. Should be interesting to see the x rays. Limbs coming out of plasters though - never a pretty sight!

Trust your other hand to play up - have you told it - it's not it's turn?!

We need that voice software sorting ... or yes you could be resorting to toe typing!

Glad you still have the morphine for pain relief and it allows you to sleep ...

    Take care,

    Speedy
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    hi peeps!

feeling washed out after my hosp visit today. they took cast off but decided not to remove stitches yet as not healed enogh.

I made a right spectacle of myself though.  when they took off the dressings the hand and wrist looked swollen and a greeny bluey yellow colour......zombie looking! more dead than alive..and with the stitches zig zag and no bony ulna it just turned my stomach and I had to ask for a drink of water...
nearly fainted...what a woose!!

am back in plaster so the evil dead look is covered up :lol:

saw x rays and WOW!!!! is it impressive! metal cup shaped 'thing' with metal shaft going down into the radius. other upper 'half' plate attached up in to the metacarpals (think) with 3 metal prong shaped spikes also reemed into place. hard to describe really.

surgeon delighted with all. i go back next week..stitches out...splint made and start seeing physio...not looking forward to that one bit!

need to lie down a while now....will tell more later.

my pigeon has been a tapping at my window..good soul that she is....well deserves her POOP medal.

    lol Iris xxxx

I take my hat off to you - what spirit you have. You are not a wuss for nearly fainting. I cheerfully have ops - love'em in fact, hours and hours without pain, but the removal of stitches/staples - absolute baby. I bleat, I cry, I wail, I grizzle, pathetic.

Of course it will look gory for a while - you must get some photos for the ghoulish grandson and his mates! Who needs computer-generated zombies when you're about! Promise me this, dorcas, please dictate your responses for the next few days, let someone else post on your behalf. All your energy is required for healing. That's the most important thing.

My word, it's great to have you back. DD

hi Iris I am new to this forum but have been reading on and off the wonderful messages , I hope you are feeling much better I too am going to have the total wrist replacment op done so are breathing a sigh of relief that I finally found someone whos had it done, read about my health problems on the new members page save me time going through it again lol
I had a camera in my wrist mid may which showed the damage is so bad only a wrist replacment was possible this is at Southampton General with my consultant David Warwick whos written books etc, so hopefully I am in safe hands I live on the Isle of wight so have to go back and forth , today I had to go to have dye injected into my wrist with scans and x rays but the damage to the joint was so bad the needle could not get in and no dye could be injected, luckly I had local anesthetic but felt the pressure and heard the pop as the needle found a tiny gap she got some dye in, but it took 3 times to finally get most of it in, I've been told by just about everyone its a new op and they are still over coming problems

Hi Iris, how smashing to have you back again. I've only just found this thread and was worried that Cris had'nt posted on the other one.
I'm not surprised you nearly fainted today, it's one thing to see these operations on TV or on other folk but it's completly different when it's attached to you. :( It's good news however that the surgeon is pleased with everything.
Don't worry about the physio until you have to, I'm sure it will be a tough road but if anyone can travel it then it's you. :) I do love the description your Grandson uses. :D
Hope you're getting as much rest as you can and being a good patient for your family. :D I know how difficult it is but it's great you have their help and support.
Will catch up later, big hugs, rita.

Hi Iris, I felt queezy in hospital when they were doing my dressings and especially when I realised they had cut through the old scar ... had to have my dressings done whilst on the bed ... look away next time!!

X-ray sounds enlightening - clever stuff - bet surgeon was pleased with his handiwork. Is he going to publish a paper?

Having the splint moulds taken wont be great - dose up on the morphine - but should be more comfy to wear? Physio ... wait and see ....

    Keep resting ...

You are such a brave soul, and certainly not a wuss. I imagine the hospital trip took a lot out of you, so get lots of sleep, and only post in short pants!!!

    Hi Iris,

You are one brave lady and it sounds so intricate and incredible they can replace something into bones so small.... but..... because of that its going to be badly bruised and look horrible for a min so well its not surprising really it made you feel a bit light headed.

Leaving you a (((((((((( )))))))))) and a hope you get a decent night and agree with the others don't overdo things for a bit. Love some grass, carrots and apples and a special chew stick coated in honey Cris xxx

Hi Iris, glad you are feeling brighter today. Post op recovery is rather a roller coaster ride. Don't get too carried away with the one fingered typing - that finger needs consideration if it is going to cope with your demands on it for the next few weeks/months ...

Glad that you are brighter today, Iris. Your description of the zombie arm was very graphic, glad it wasn't me looking at it....they'd still be bringing me round now!

You put both arms in slings and rest them up for today.........cosset that typing finger!

A new day, and more to munch! The flaming steroids have made me soooooooo hungry - I shall resort to chewing a teething ring or something of that ilk to stop me stuffing. (Grass? Oh, don't mind if I do.)

How are things today, dorcas? I hope you had some quality rest overnight and are feeling OK (or better than that!) today. DD
