Delighted to hear things are going so well Iris and that they're pleased with your progress at the hospital. Very clever surgeon and your physio sounds like they know their stuff too. You are in good hands. Very good idea to make sure you have painkillers before the physio. When do you go back again?
It does'nt surprise me in th least that you're doing exercises since day 1, you're always so positive and it's paying off. Are the family still with you then for how much longer? At least you've a lighter plaste on now. Fingers crossed all continues to go well for you but don't forget to be good to yourself as well.
big hugs, rita0 -
Iris, so glad to hear all is going so well! Ten out of ten and hundreds of brownie points for being so brave...............don't think I could do it.
Hope you are still being spoilt, you deserve it. As for Cris, well, so many of us have lots of reasons to thank her - and she's probably 'flying' for sure after all those injections!

Hi Iris
Just a quick message to say I am so pleased you are in good hands with the physio too - that makes a big difference.
Hope the dogs are OK.. my two Shelties (Poppy and Freya) have been disturbed (barking) every night by two neighbourhood cats chasing each other over my sunlounge roof - it was 3 00 am last night - so I am keeping a low profile with my neighbours at the moment!!
I am 7 weeks post-op tomorrow - it has flown by - as it will for you too. I am doing great - the 6 week milestone was an important one.. I started to feel much more 'secure' when I got past that date..
Very best wishes
Marion0 -
Hi Iris,
Hugs, grass, carrots, apples and hopes all lurking for you
Hope its getting better but DON@T go overdoing it flower xxx
Hi Marion,
Hope the neighbour dodging isn't needed today? x0 -
Hi DD (diabolic one ) hope you are a bit better today..the mtx is difficult to tolerate eh? I do find jabs help reduce the side effects..
Hi speedy number 2 son is a whizz at inventing! I'll tell him you said he should patent his ideas.
and Im glad your new hip is doing so well and you don't have the prospect of another THR to think about!.
Hiya Cris...you must feel like a pin cushion with all those jabs oooya! hope you get some ease now...xxx
btw...I had a radial head excision on the right elbow 2002 to help with pain and not being able to turn hand over or grip... op really helped! didn't prevent me from later having the TWR either.....so please think about getting proper diagnosis bout your hands and elbows? least then you'd know what bits are causing the pain and what can be fixed.
ta for the new 'provisions'!!!xxxxx
Hi Barbara...thanks for making me feel less wimpy and for the gold stars...and the good wishes too. I'm looking forward to the 'pain free' bit!
Hi Toni you got me some stickers then?? or at least a lollipop for being 'good' seriously though, thanks for all your messages...really appreciated; always make me smile!
will probably rest a bit from typing after this but want to say thanks to everyone for all the support.
Hi Rita!!! how are you feeling since the fibromy diagnosis? hope you are getting proper meds?
I'm going to hand therapy next Wed but don't know exactly what to do...exercises...between then and now :? I took the new splint off once yesterday but it felt so weird across the wrist... I moved it back and forward a little (teeny bit  ) but it click clicks inside like a ratchet ...very odd indeed...and very stiff....and sore! will definitely take heavy meds before doing that again!
I see surgeon again 27th July so need to be at my best before then!
Hi Annie My twin sis is here until Monday and she would stay longer, but I do want a while on my own...it's this living on one's own that does it! I'm getting a bit claustrophobic with folks staying 24/7 ...I sound so ungrateful  but I'm really not..I love my family to bits but need my own space again too.
problem is I can't cook, cut, slice, or spread or open packets, boxes or milk cartons...so it's going to be interesting! can't do buttons, tie laces, lift anything even a little bit heavy or use a hair drier! wurzel gummidge that's the new me!
I have to try though...don't I?
Hi Marion! you are a wonder after only 7weeks! well done definitely.xxxx
my dogs are fine at their 'foster' home thanks but I am missing them! hope that your neighbours are the forgiving kind!?
hey everyone....I am signing out for a time..but so grateful for all your continued support! xxxxxxxxxxxx
(I'd like to give my new wrist joint a name as I keep talking to 'it'...any suggestions?)
Irisx0 -
Now
Is your new joint Male or Female...???
If it's female
Then wilhemina is good
or Male... mmm william or Wally??
I think you can have a certificate for being good
Love
Toni xx0 -
Hi Iris, nice to hear all the positive news........I'll have to think about a name for your wrist, expect someone will beat me to it!
I know exactly what you mean about having your own space, I need that quite desperately at times too. I do have an understanding OH though, which makes all the difference, he's a bit of a loner, too.
The best of luck for coping on your own - you could live on Cris' provisions, but not sure it would do your wrist much good.......it might have to be a liquid diet!

Hello Iris,
So pleased that you are getting such feed back. Love the hair by the way Setting a new fashion!!
Do hope progress continues a pace for you. Deffinate planning needed to win your own space back.
Sending you lots of hugs.

Hi Iris, your son's invention must be working well - your name is popping up more again on the forums .. so can he invent a device for whipping on tight TEDS??
Hope you are continuing to improve and the wrist is feeling more comfortable out of the very heavy cast.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hello my fellow PA gal. Your Diabolic Damsel has hit a brick wall at quite some speed. Shaken, stirred and very discombobulated. I'll be back though - this b*****d is not going to beat me. Not yet, anyway! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi. I'm thinking of you and I am going to re-open the MASH unit. I need its services. Hope you are well today and continuing the good progress. Are you dogs back with you? I presume so. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Iris
WOW!! what a operation. still its over with now and you can only get better although it will take a while but every day is another step. Great stuff.
Take care
Denise.x0 -
Thinking of you HA, and laughing at you wanting your own space now. What did I tell you?
I idolise my family, but after two weeks, I was climbing the walls to at least try to do things for myself. It`s healthy to feel that way though, and, certainly in my case, helped speed up the recovery. But then, I had full use of my hands, so it is much harder for you.
As long as you have help when you feel you need it, you will be fine.........Much love......Ange.0 -
Hi Iris,
Oh I am late today and haven't even flown up but will do soon.... Sorry Flower been shearing the sheep and they are all done Its killed me as usual so might be flying a bit odd....

Good evening Iris, I hope the pain is improving ... morphine induced pink fluffy clouds are lovely but play havoc with the digestive system ...

Hi Iris, Hope the lighter plaster has improved your movement.
Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you. Wish I could take some of the pain away, even for a little while.

Hi Diabolical One hope your ok and have a better day xx0 -
Hello all you lovely people :!:
thanks for all your messages....sorry I haven't been around to answer or post replies on other threads....I have been trying to be good (trying..very trying some might say ha! ha!)
Have decided to call my new wrist Wally (thanks Toni!) as that's how it is just now...a bit of a wally cause it doesn't understand what I want it to do.
I phoned the Physio on Thursday (the one I'd seen with my surgeon) as I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do with Wally in the week before my first appointment with Hand Therapy (on Wed).
I said that when the surgeon removed the bones in my hand to accommodate the replacement hardware, he must have removed part of my brain as well as I had no recollection of exactly what exercises I should do.
He was lovely, made me feel OK about being nervous of removing the splint on my own...and talked me through what I'd to do.
2weeks post op I've to remove the splint and then ask Wally to turn palm up as far as he'll go and back again so's it's back in the palm down resting position. I've then to get him to move back and forwards.....no help allowed from the other hand as it would be too much pressure on Wally..... 20% is what I'm aiming for ...he said I could use my other wrist as a guide for seeing a 20% angle.....which is a laugh as the other wrist is fused and has no movement . I've to remove the splint and do this 3-4 times a day, an hour after meds.
anyhow after the phonecall I did try but after removing the splint I was scared stiff and quickly put Wally away. :? It took me until last night to try again...what a coward I am when I think of the THR and TKR peeps who have to move the joint straight away. sorry folks!
Wally hasn't a clue what's being asked of him. :? he will tilt a little but feels like concrete! ....not sore this movement just very very hard to do as he does not listen! the turning the hand over a bit..palm up is quite a different matter...resistant, shuddering, clickety click and unfortunately very painful.. but I will get there!
Hey! I went out ON MY OWN  on Friday. took a taxi to go to the docs and back for my usual blood tests. how's that for progress then :?:
I also asked my wonderful, patient and ever loving, caring twin sis to go home yesterday...very reluctantly she agreed bless....so I was on my own last night (well, Wally was here too) and will be 'all by my own' (as my 3yr old niece used to say) until late this afternoon. :P (ange and annieyou were so right)
I haven't fallen downstairs (like last year after the fusion) or starved (ready meals micro waved I can do) and have showered & dressed myself! also propped/ jammed the hair dryer on top of the cup stand so's I could blow dry my hair with one wonky fused hand.....I am very chuffed at doing that.
I know I have rambled on but also know that there are other peeps facing the same op, who would/ might like to know what it's like to have/ rehab from a TWR...
much love and hugs to all! thank you for kind thoughts, offers to share the pain (x), WOW'S!, gold stars and brownie points..which I am already wearing with pride...greens, dandelions and smiles which are keeping me going.

Hi Iris
Great to read your update.. although I had to hide behind a cushion to read the bits about your hand exercises!
If it's difficult having the hairdryer on the cup stand, I have seen a hairdryer stand in one of the disability catalogues (I nearly bought it 2 years ago when my hands were bad).
No doubt you will find some imaginative ways of coping with the various tasks at home ...!
I do find my electric tin opener really useful (I am eating lots of tinned salmon at the moment).
You will be glad you had the laminated floor put down - it's so easy to keep clean with a dry mop (not that you will be wielding any kind of household cleaning equipment in the forseeable future - I hope!!!)
Hope you are keeping a mental note of all your 'grumps' to post on the grump thread in due course - I was reading that thread last night and it is SO funny!
Best wishes
Marion x0
