    Hi Suzy and thanks!!

Popular Music From Vittula is perfect Toni, it's a great story, one of my favourites.

Hi Frogmella, hope you escape to books and kitties soon!!
Shouldn't every hospital have a library and a pets visiting room?

Hi guys & girls! You do not Arnie & Willow visiting you in hospital! My legs are scratched to nothing! Lucky I can't feel my legs!!

Well I have checked out Popular Music by Micael Niemi and yes it's on Kindle it costs £6.99. I know it's a bit steep so it is up to you if you want to get it. I'm still happy to have it for Book of the Month for March I look forward to reading it! And Bydand1980 I'm looking forward to your recommendations!!

A pets visiting room? Of course they should. I have two dogs, two cats and 24 chickens so it would need to be a big room! I am home now so can get all the love I need!

I was too out of it to even watch TV until Friday so didn't read until Saturday I think! Amazing what a little bit of spinal surgery does to your brain!

Thanks for thinking of me my bookclubbing pals!

    Hey Toni,
I am not in much pain at all really. My back is stiff and sore (odd that given that I have just had massive screws put in my spine) and I am exhausted but feel great!

The Painted Bridge by Wendy Wallace.

I loved this book. It tells the story of Anna whose husband admitted her to an asylum for her seemingly 'absurd' behaviour. It shows you how years ago vulnerable often innocent people were and how sane behaviour can so easily be construed as insane.

    I give this 5*s

    Luv,
    Love, Legs x

Another night of not being able to sleep because of the pain especially in the hips but on the upside I've managed to read Gisli's Saga. It can be a bit heavy going at some points, especially trying to follow the family links and who is out to gain revenge against who and for who!

There are a couple of versions on Amazon but this one is a free website however it is not the greatest translation I've seen. In saying that, you can't escape the amazing, epic scale of the story and the intriguing family and personal politics of the ancient Vikings and the seemingly strange system of justice and councils of that society. This story rivals anything by Shakespeare or any of the other, more modern literary greats!

I finished The Greatest Knight by Elizabeth Chadwick yesterday.
It was good. It is about the early years of William Marshall's life. (historical fiction). I must admit to reading quite a lot of it while I was a bit keyed up - the last day in hospital and the first couple at home, so I probably didn't give it all the attention it deserved. Nevertheless it kept me occupied and I will read the next one so it must have been good!
    I give ***/****

I am currently distracting myself with a Jodi Picoult and then I am going to read Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher. I can't remember why I ordered that one but looking at the cover it looks like it will be great.

I can't get the book of the month from the library so I might have to actually buy it! Only £2.50 secondhand on Amazon so I will order it when I start Ketchup Clouds.

    See you soon, book-pickers!

My review of the Painted Bridge by Wendy Wallace

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did

Straight away I warmed to the main character and felt her injustice at being wrongly incarcerated in a private asylum by her husband. It turned out later that he actually wanted her out of the way whilst he sorted out his mistress!

As I progressed through the book, I met the other 'inmates' and staff and began to fear for our heroine. Her naivity and determined personality causing her to make 'mistakes' with terrible and outragious consequences.

Luckily she makes one or two allies and eventually is proven utterly sane and released. A happy ending, but the book left me quite upset :(

Like Legs I have to award it 5*

    Love

    Toni xxx

Byland I am so sorry you are suffering - just wanted you to know I am loving Popular Music by Mikael Niemi.

I just finished Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher
It is a teens' book about a 15ish year old girl who has a terrible secret. She can't tell anyone and so the book is a series of letters she writes to an inmate on Death Row. It is set in England, though, she just writes to this chap on death row because a nun spoke to her RE class about the death penalty in USA and it gave her the idea. She begins each letter with some "chit chat" that I am sure would have unsettled the prisoner as she hasn't the greatest amount of tact! I enjoyed the book and was intrigued to know just how bad her secret was. It was a god story about the usual teenage guilt, love etc.
    I give it ****

I hope you are feeling better with the sunshine today Bubba? It is glorious here.

Hmm, Toni. Well she lets slip very early on that she killed someone.... It is quite intriguing because she is writing the letters a year post incident so you get a bit of present day info mixed with what happened a year ago. She only reveals what actually happened in the second to last letter so you really do have to keep reading to find out. It is a children's book though so really easy to read.

Oh yes, I am doing really well I think. I feel so much better than after my previous operations that I am even starting to feel bored/restless already. Never felt that way before. I took my last prophylactic antibiotic this morning so normality can now resume. Onwards and upwards. It is difficult to get the balance right between doing too much and not doing enough though. I am scared of getting it wrong, either way, and hampering my recovery. I see the surgeon next week though so I am going to ask him for more specific guidance. I hope that I don't get evicted from the forum if I get too well!

    No no no!!!

    You wont get 'evicted'

We need people who have had successful ops to encourage those who are approaching surgery remember

I think you are doing brilliantly and am sure the surgeon will think so too. Probably best to avoid the can-can yet awhile

    Love
