Hi Bookies! Sorry haven't been around lately! My birthday lasted 2 days! And before then was back & forth! I'm just over half way now through Worth Dying for I'm actually enjoying it, it's not my usual read but yes I'm enjoying it and hope to have it finished by the end of the week fingers crossed!

Yes Toni we do need to think about a Book of the month for April if anyone wants to suggest a book that would be great. Any new members who want to choose the Book of the month for April please do as we like new members to do so.

Hi all, sorry have been so quiet, I have a really painful, right hand, elbow, wrist and shoulder which is preventing me from doing things such as typing a lot. Am loving my kindle, and have read loads which wouldn't have been possible with a book due to so much pain. Reading The 'Jack Daniels' detective series by J.A.Konrath, on the 4th book now and loving them!!! Also read Borderlands by Brian McGilloway, Do you see me by Heather Atkinson which was a bit racy!!! The breaking away trilogy by Heather Atkinson and a few books by Paul Pilkington. Another Brian McGilloway book, Little girl lost as well as the justice series by M.A.Comley. Excuse me not reviewing properly, bubba, my hand is just too painful. My favourites are defintely the Jack Daniels series.

Hope you are all well, Tony have a fab time at Hoar Cross Hall you deserve it. Frogmella, glad you are improving and it is so encouraging to hear you recovering well. Especially to me, who is a complete coward and will probably need a spinal op at some point. Bubba, hope you are enjoying the kittens. To all other members hope you are doing ok.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but I discovered another thing which my Kindle does .........................it can read any book aloud to me!! That means if my hands are particularly rubbish, I feel ill or I'm doing the washing up/ironing/other chore I can let it read to me.

All you do is look in the menu of the book you're reading and go down to 'Turn on Text to Speech' and there you have it. (The only drawback is that you can only choose a Stephen Hawking type male/female voice but it is very useful.) Incidentally my Kindle is nearly two years old so it's not as if it's really modern.

Hope others find this useful too.

    Luv
    Love, Legs x

I always fall asleep with an audio book! Mr F and I listened to the Harry Potter books on CD a few years ago and Mr F got so fed up with having to listen to the same bits over again because I had fallen asleep the night before! Not that it really mattered having read them all beforehand!

Suzy - it's a funny thing. I was really scared of having the op but I was more scared of staying the way I was. If it comes to it you will be able to do it. It has never been as bad as I feared. I am sorry to read that you are having such a bad time again. ((()))

I have just finished The Puppet Show by Patrick Redmond
I picked it up off the shelf in the library, which makes a change because I usually order books.
It is a thriller about a young couple (Michael and Rebecca) who move into a new flat with a very rich and powerful landlord. The landlord, Max, befriends the young man, Michael, who had spent much of his childhood in foster care and homes. Max is a controlling bully, and pretty soon has Michael dancing to his tune although Michael doesn't realise it. Becky does, but Mike won't see it.
It was a tense story and I enjoyed it.

Suzy don't you worry about reviewing the books you read until your hand is a lot better, there is no time limit on when reviewing books.
And Lindalegs you clever girl on finding out about being able to have audio on the kindle, that may help a lot of people out who enjoy audio books or who can't use their hands to hold a book/kindle like suzygirl at the moment!

Just a quick reminder about Book of the Month if anyone has a suggestion for a book for April please come forward and let us know.

I'm not sure it is a suitable book for Book of the Month though if you can do a review of it anyone who likes Richard Burton and his films can read the review and buy it.

    Any other suggestions? :?

Wow. Nearly all of your tastes are similar to mine! I am an avid reader, and apart from anything by Stephen King, who hasn't been mentioned yet, I loved Room, the Twilight saga, and almost all previously mentioned. I go between kindle and real books depending on state of my hands.
Loved the hunger games trilogy too. Anyone read them?

Rowantree - I have read the Hunger Games. I got a bit bored by the end of the last one. I have read every Stephen King book except I never finished the black house despite starting it twice! There are two due out this year and I can't wait. I would say that he is probably my favourite author - always easy to read and yet not too dumbed down.

I am about halfway through The hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared. It is quite funny - sort of half Forrest Gump and half something else that I can't think of. I am enjoying it and will review when I finish it. I then have After the Fall which I think I got off the Richard and Judy website and then The Fault in our Stars is coming next. That one just won some prize from R&J book club.

I will put the book of the month on my library list and read it after those three. I am so bored at the moment I doubt it will be long until I get round to it!

    Hi Toni,
I am still doing well thank you. This weather has meant that I missed my walks since Thursday. :( But yesterday Mr F took me when he went to the local town and I went in the Co op. Funny how such little things are exciting when you have been cooped up so long! I go to see the surgeon on Tuesday, which will be exactly 4 weeks post op. I am being good - the days are very long when you can't go anywhere or do anything! I thought I already did very little but apparently not! I have watched quite a bit of TV and completed one jigsaw so far. Only two weeks until I can swim and I can start driving this week coming so at least I will be able to do a little bit of light shopping to get me out!
My cats aren't that impressed with the snow but my dogs love it. I wish I could go on their walks with them to see them play in it but I don't think that would be very sensible!
Thank you for checking up on me!

    Hello there!

So I have finished The hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
I really enjoyed it. It was funny, and like I said before, like Forrest Gump crossed with Harold Fry maybe. The hundred year old man is Allan and he does climb out of the window of his old peoples home on his 100th birthday. Pretty much he just thinks "stuff this" and off he goes. At the bus station he takes a suitcase while its owner is in the loo and the adventure starts there. The road trip that follows is interspersed with Allan's life up until that pint - and what a life! He met Chairman Mao, Truman, Franco, Stalin to name a few.
A fun read, complete escapism (almost literally!). So ****/*****

Toni - I have been freed to return to the pool next week but only to walk widths for the first two weeks and then start swimming the third week. Yay!!!

See you there then Monday? Tusesday??

I really will have to read that book - he sounds a proper character the old boy :D

I have had a lazy day today because Hester, my golden retriever, had an upset stomach last night (always the night isn't it?) so I didn't get much sleep. Consequently before my nap today I have finished After the Fall by Charity Norman

This is a book that begins with a fall. Finn falls from the balcony of the family home and is rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His mother, Martha, is the only witness. Almost immediately it become obvious that there is more to the story than Finn sleepwalking and climbing over the railing, but Martha isn't saying. So we spend a long time wondering who she is protecting. The current day story is interwoven with the how the family got to where they are now. They are Martha and her 17 year old daughter Sacha, Kit - Martha's husband, and Finn and Charlie - Martha and Kit's twin 5 year old boys.
They have been in New Zealand for a year having emigrated from England. Some of the descriptions of the country over there made me want to emigrate too!
    A good read. ***/****
