The Concert was amazing! This morning I'm deaf and my left knee is very swollen and can hardly move it. Not sure if it's the flare up starting or just the cold. So going to keep it warm and raised today. Get kindle at reading for some reading.

Glad you had a good time, Amanda! I finished The shock of the fall on Monday night. I really enjoyed it. I must warn you, Amanda, there is a small amount of back and forth in time, in as much as the main character is telling us his past. I hope this doesn't ruin it for you. On a positive note, though, it did win the Costa prize yesterday!

I am now reading The girl with all the gifts which seems to be some sort of zombie story - but I am not sure yet. Again, it is gripping me!

This weather is getting me down a bit now. The garden is turning into a swamp and the dogs are perpetually tracking mud all across the house! But it is good weather for reading. Mind you, I don't think there is bad weather for reading!!

    Hello everyone :D

Bubba, sorry to hear you haven't been well. Hope you are feeling better.

I have just finished reading After the Fall it is told in a back and forth fashion. I guessed what had happened way before the end, but it was a good story.

I read that one a while ago now, Suzy. I seem to remember quite enjoying it, but, like you, working out what had happened too!

I am really enjoying The girl with all the gifts at the moment.

Hi everyone wanted to make sure everyone with Kindles knows Amazon has got (I think it's) 12 Books For 99p for today! I found what looks a really good read called Coming Clean: A Memoir by Kimberly Rae Miller Basically it's about Kimberly's life growing up in a home full to the rafters of stuff due to her farther's hoarding addiction. And her poor mothers at her wits end not knowing what to do. It looks an interesting read and I can't wait to start it!!!

The girl with all the gifts by M R Carey
In essence this is a zombie story. It is set in the not-too-distant future a couple of decades after an infection turned most people into flesh eating zombies. It begins in a classroom where Melanie is being taught by Miss Justineau. From here the meat is slowly put onto the bones of the back story so that you can work out what is going on.
It is a gripping book and it makes you think about right and wrong in odd situations.
    I award ****/*****

Picking up Rubbernecker by Belinder Bauer next.

Alphabetical by Michael Rosen is a very interesting book; a very
refreshing change from the sludge of D Tartt's the Goldfinch,

    Rubbernecker by Belinda Bauer

What a good book. There were loads of twists and turns and just when you think the last surprise has been revealed there is another one! The main character is Patrick who has Asperger's syndrome and so there are similarities to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. Patrick is doing and anatomy course and works out, during the dissection of his group's cadaver, that the cause of death may be murder.
A really good, gripping read. However, I caution you that if you have fears of being in a coma it may not be the book for you. I say no more!
    Anyway I reckon ****/*****

Going to collect The Gallery of vanished Husbands next.

Hope the bookies are as well as possible. Hope Toni is doing ok. xx

Thank you frog for the review, It sounds like a very interesting book glad you enjoyed it. So your next book will be a totally different genera to the last. I do think sometimes when we read we jump from one different type of read to another without thought. One minute reading about love and happiness next murder and revenge!!

I'm doing O.K just wish this weather would get better damp & cold does not agree with my joints!!

Hello, everyone. I have been in hospital so have been absent. Will be in and out whilst recuperating. I have just read Everyone lies by A.D. Garrett it was good, also Tall, Dark and Deadly by Heather Graham. I also started reading Hotel K a biography of Bali's most notorious jail.

The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton It is a story told back and forth between time about a daughter who discovers more about her mothers life before she was a wife and mother. I really enjoyed the story and loved the characters.
