Last thing I read was a Stephen king book while waiting bleary eyed and slightly frustrated in a airport departure lounge, I think it was 23-11-1968

It's about the Kennedy assassination and I found to be a good time killer, certainly held my attention anyway, a good read..

Popped into the library to see if my book had arrived. It hadn't but The White Princess was looking right at me so there's my next read decided then! I think I am giving up on the Dawn French altogether now. Sorry folks!

Welcome stixx420 to 'The Book Club'! I do like anything about JFK it keeps you interested because of so many theories that surround his death. Any books with interesting history in them I would be happy to read.
Hope you enjoy our 'little'! club and look forward to reading your reviews on what you read. Feel free to suggest any recommendations especially when it comes to 'Book Of The Month'. Again welcome stixx420. :)

    :xmas_cheesygrin:

Sorry I have been AWOL lately bookworms I hang my head in shame and our Bubbadog (Amanda) is poorly in bed with 'flu :(

Get well soon Amanda, but we will look after the bookclub for you...
maybe our next book should be a Christmas Carol one

    :carolers:

    hehehe!

Well I have survived the youngest's 16th birthday party and suspect I will be fit for not much more now than reading quietly to recover. As you can imagine, but it was worth it she loved it ;)

I am finishing my two books I have on the go ATM (one audio one kindle) so will have some reviews soon.

Must read back and check what I am actually supposed to be reading

    Love

    Hi!
I finished The White Princess by Philippa Gregory. It follows Elizabeth of York in her marriage to Henry VIIth. Not a happy marriage, more one filled with mistrust. As with all of her books this was an easy read and I read it quickly and with interest. Perhaps not as gripping as The White Queen but still ***/****.

Just collected All the birds singing by Evie Wyld. It is on the Costa book prize shortlist so that's where I got the inspiration from. After that I have a few on reservation but need to move some off my shortlist I think.

Went to see Miracle on 34th Street the musical on Saturday so feeling fairly chistmassy now. :santa: Have started a cold though and my nose is running like a tap so I resemble rudolph! :rudolph:

    Hi everyone

I have heard from Amanda (Bubbadog) and I am reliably informed that she is on the mend. I have this from her so I am sure it's true ;)

Missing a few of our fellow bookworms Frogmella :xmas_cry: Lindalegs ,Suzygirl, Marrianne I hope they are ok :?

Sounds like the film was good and made you feel proper festive ;)

Let me know how the Costa recommendation turns out won't you?

I was wondering where they all were too, Frogmorton! I hope they are ok and just busy with Christmas prep. I am enjoying the book so far but Amanda won't; it has a split time frame!

Hello, sorry to have been quiet. It has been hectic and I have been trying to rest my hand after the minor surgery. The overuse had me crying with the pain on Monday  , so I have had to slow up a bit. Not easy when you kitchen or whole house as it feels like is being refitted.

I have read a couple of books. Am reading The husbands secret at the moment, it started off very good. Will let you know how it goes.

Above Suspicion by Lynda La Plante was very good. Have been meaning to read it for ages and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also read What doesn't kill her by Max Allan Collins which was fairly good. Can't remember the plot atm  my brain is not doing well. I think my lupus is flaring, my joints in my hands are on fire and swollen and painful.

Amanda, sorry to hear you haven't been well. Hope the kittens are better now.

Toni and Frogmella, hope you are doing ok.

A keep warm and cosy whilst reading greeting to all other book readers :D

    Suzygirl :xmas_cheesygrin:

Great to see you! Look after that hand as best you can eh? We had our kitchen done last summer and it was a DREADFUL 10 weeks so you have my sympathy. A kitchen is 90% storage so it all gets put into other rooms for the duration so YES the whole house is affected

I read the Husband's Secret a while back and enjoyed it I think. Quite confusing at first, but was good in the end.

    Love

I have finished The Husbands secret. It started really well, I loved the way the characters were interwoven. The middle part I felt faltered slightly, don't want to spoil anything, but I felt one character didn't react the way they had been portrayed. However it got better and I absolutely loved the epilogue. I would love to read another of her books.

    ****/*****

Downloaded quite a few books the past couple of days so got a choice on my hands. :D

Hope you are well and all have a lovely weekend. Thank you for my lovely welcome back, much appreciated. X

and deserved Suzygirl - you are an integral member of the bookclub.

Wow you summed that book up well...I know which character acted OUT of character!! It did have a rather satisfying outcome yes :)

    Bump it up frogmella ;)

Oh yes it does sound good. Will bump it after this! Was it written by Liane Moriarty or something like that? If so I think she wrote What Alice Forgot. That was quite good as I remember.

Yes it was written by Liane Moriaty and I looked at What Alice forgot and fancied reading it. Was just a bit worried about reading another book by the same author so soon and it spoiling the book, as sometimes they follow the same format.

I am trying to stockpile good books to read as my hubby and youngest are going skiing for the week in Jan and I will be on my own, with Izzy for company. :D

I bumped it! Might be a long wait though I am number 22 in the queue, but there are a lot of copies on the list!

I picked up The List of My Desires by Gregoire Delacourt and Bellman and Black by Diane Setterfield this morning. Maybe some of these reads will help suzygirl to compile her list??

Off to finish Christmassing the house! :presents1: :xmas_cheesygrin: :santa:

Hi everyone!! Yes I'm back! Thank you so much Toni for leaving messages. :) Arnie's and myself are starting to feel alittle better. I understand everyone has either been busy or unwell, it's that time of year!! :madnoel:

To be honest I'm starting to find 'The Perpetual Astonishment of Jonathon Fairfax a bit slow and annoying! I'm 60% through it now but I'm not giving up now as I've read so much of it!!

Hope everyone's getting in the Christmas Spirit!! I'm all excited because I got lots of little gifts for the ever growing kittens and I've even got them a Christmas Stocking each and stitched their names on them! I'm ever so proud of my handy work!

Aw Bubba, you big softie! The best my cats get is a tin of sardines for christmas, and then they just eat the tomato sauce and leave the fish!! The dogs will probably get a bog bone each so they will be happy!

Glad you are back and feeling better.

All the Birds Singing by Evie Wyld
Jake (a girl) lives alone on what sounds like one of the Scottish islands with her dog and sheep. Something is killing her sheep, one by one. Jake is very much a loner but she also seems to have some sort of dark secret in her past. The book is a series of alternating chapters - one from the present then one from the past. (Just warning Amanda!!) The ones in the past run backwards so at the very end of the book we find out how she started the journey that led to her present position.
It is a dark, quiet book. Not very long, only 228 pages and easy to read. I enjoyed it so ***/****.

Will probably read Bellman and Black next. I think Diane Setterfield wrote the thirteenth tale, which I enjoyed so I hope it will be good. Says on the cover it is a ghost story.

Jonathan Fairfax jumps about doesn't it? ::)

Daisycat has a stocking too!! The kids just have piles of pressies :xmas_redface: I also have a 'thingy' which says S"anta...then you add names.....have been good this year" The girls including Daisycat are on it in age order :areindeer:

The sheepie book Frogmella - does it have a happy ending?? Sounds pretty distressing...do you think I'll like it?

Without giving too much away it does appear to have a happy ending. I'm not sure if you will like it or not. I suppose it was a different sort of book and I can see that it might not be to everyone's taste. But if it ever goes cheap at just over 200 pages its worth a shot??

I must admit I was looking on Amazon (As I got Amazon Prime free for a month ends next week!) and I do like the look of The new Sharon Ozbourne auto-biography Unbreakable as I've read the 1st two and they are good as Mrs O is such a crazy women! (Bit Like me!) and I also like the look of The new Katie Price auto-biography love, lipstick and lies as much as I hate the women here life is interesting!! So Santa may deliver them to me as well as a new onesie (Yes you lot got me curious about them!!) so brought one and I loved it so want to get another one now!

Pretty much caught up now, wrapped last of the presents yesterday, just got to write a few cards and then my spare time is mine so can get my head back in 'Johnathon Fairfax'.
