Oh, Frogmorton, the sheepsies do get hurt, sorry! But still happy ending overall.
I am really enjoying Bellman and Black. Quiet a good ghost story in the Victorian style so far!0 -
Ah ok best avoid that one then Frogmella :xmas_redface:
The ghost story sounds scary and perfect for Christmas by the fireside :xmas_cheesygrin:
Right I promised to review Coco's Secret by Niamh Greene
This was a nice light easy read for me. Set in Ireland with a small tryst to London and then one to Paris. You could almost'hear' the Irish accents in the prose
Coco is a woman who is in her early 30's, who has recently split from her long term bf and works in the family antique shop. She 'finds' an original Coco Chanel bag in some auction stuff, which contains a heartfelt letter and Coco feels the need to return it to it's owner. She begins her journey and in the process finds love herself. Yep it turned out to be rather more of a love-story than I would like :? She is hindered somewhat by the name her Mother gave her at birth, the Mother who died when she was 13.
Pleasant characters, reasonable plot, but predictable so I have to give it only a 3*
Love to you all

Bellman and Black by Diane Setterfield
This was a good old fashioned ghost story. Although, there weren't really any ghosts just odd, mysterious figures. The main character is William Bellman who ends up running a cloth mill in Victorian England. He is a hard working man and makes a success of his life. Then tragedy strikes, an illness comes to the town, and his life changes after he makes a strange deal in the graveyard.
I enjoyed this book so award ****
I have started The Silent Wife now so be ready for another review soon!
Hope everyone had a good day yesterday!0 -
I have just finished reading The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion it is on the Richard and Judy Spring book club list 2014. It is about a university professor in genetics who has aspergers syndrome but is unaware of it. he decides he would like a wife so compiles a questionnaire to eliminate unsuitable candidates. I really enjoyed the book, it reminded me of the programme, the Big Bang Theory.

The Perpetual Astonishment Of Jonathan Fairfax
What can I say about this book? I found it hard going until I had read 80% of the book then it seemed to pick up and start getting interesting. I'd say it took me a good 8 weeks to get to 80% read then it took me a week to read the rest!! The story is a good idea with twists and turns but it's just dragged out with other side stories from the characters which Jonathan manages to get himself involved in. Jonathan is a good Character at 1st very shy and finds it hard to talk to people until he meets Lance who is very extrovert and is everyone's friend. And the story is based round the murder of the secretary of the cabinet minister which Jonathan gets himself mixed in. It was OK but not my normal choice of read.

Has anyone read December's Books of the Month ' The Art Of Hearing Heart Beat's' Or 'You Had Me At Hello' ? I ask because it's that time of the month when we need to get our heads together and think of a Book Of The Month for January. So if any of you have had any books for Christmas and think it would be suitable for Book Of The Month Please put it forward. I've had the new Sharon Osbourne auto-biography as a Christmas Present, if anyone fancies an Auto-biography for Book Of The Month please say so. Get your book worm thinking caps on!!0

I have just ordered the rosie project thanks to your review, Suzygirl!
I am enjoying The Silent Wife right now, I reckon I might finish it today, or maybe tomorrow.
Had a good walk today - decided we should try and get back to doing things we used to do before my back went wrong. Went a circular walk around Brewood. Was only spoilt by my golden retriever, Hester, deciding to roll in fox poo at the end. Ugh! Ended up giving her a bath when we got home!!0 -
The silent wife by A.S.A. Harrison
As one of the reviews on the back of this book says - it is better than Gone Girl. (Most of you know I was disappointed with Gone Girl's ending.) I suppose it has a similarish premise - a relationship gone wrong and all that entails. There are a few twists and turns and I found my sympathies twisting and turning too! I reckon ****/*****0 -
Let me know if you enjoy the book Frogmella.
I have just finished The Bubblegum Thief by Jeff Miller I really enjoyed this book, it had lots of twists and kept me thinking. A couple of things were a bit implausible but enough to totally detract. I give it a ****/*****
I haven't read The art of hearing heartbeats yet and I suggested it! I have such a list to get through and I like to choose from the list according to what I fancy. I like to have lots to choose from. Sorry Amanda!0 -
I know Suzygirl - I read neither too :xmas_redface: I am ashamed
I wonder whether we ought to put The Art of Hearing Heartbeats up for January along with an autobiography (as suggested by Amanda)for those who fancy either???
I honestly thought I'd have MORE time for reading over Christmas not LESS ::)
The Silent Wife is on my kindle a-waiting Frogmella
I also downloaded Lacey's House and The love of my life I really need to get reading
Right no-one but me is up yet so I shall finish Mr Fairfax!!!

I like your thinking Toni!! So for Books Of The Month For January 2014 they will be The Art Of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan - Philipp Sendker & Unbreakable - My New Auto-biography by Sharon Osbourne Look forward to reading your reviews.
I'm already a quarter of the way through Unbreakable by Sharon Osbourne and she is a real strong Lady for coming through what she has had to deal with just in 2013, I've read her other 2 auto-biographies and enjoyed both. She may come across as a real strong bitch but when it comes to her family she has a huge heart.
I WANT TO WISH ALL THE BOOKWORMS WHO ARE PART OF THE BOOK CLUB A VERY HAPPY 2014! AND LOOK FORWARD TO READING LOTS & LOTS OF NEW BOOKS!!!!0 -
Happy new year!!
The list of my desires by Gregoire Delacourt
This is translated from the French but don't let that put you off. It is a short book, only 200 pages, but it made me think. Jo wins 18 million euros on the lottery but decided that she doesn't want her life to change so doesn't cash the cheque. The story follows her life both before and after the win. I enjoyed it and it did make me wonder what I would do with the money (cash the cheque, obviously!!).

Interesting Frogmella
I have often dreamed of what I would do if I won the lottery!!
Thank you Amanda for your New Year's wishes and Frogmella too
I hope this year is a kind one to us all
Love

Well I came on to post my review of The art of hearing heartbeats, so better not do that now. However I will say that I loved this beautiful book that really made me think.
Going to read The Never list now.0 -
I'm already halfway way through Unbreakable - my new Autobiography by Sharon Osbourne it is a real page turner, the way she has written the book is like the way she talks so witty with a lot of swearing! Really enjoyable.
Have a good weekend everyone.0 -
Toni, I am thinking of you and your family. x0
