Hi Toni, sorry the bursa isn't resolving  have you tried acupuncture? I had acu for hip bursa when nothing else helped and it did work for me even though I was really sceptical! (sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs )

Thanks for your good wishes...I am determined but Wally has been complaining quite a bit last night and this morn so have eased up a little on the exercises! arther is rearing his ugly head again so I'm jangling today   I'm sure it's the change in weather/ air pressure has something to do with it....

Hi Cris, you do need those hands looked at....hope they're on the list for your GP or better still rheummy.. being 'looked at' and 'poked' isn't worth squat when you need proper advice on what can be done. 'You need hands' isn't just a song!! (showing my age there) kidding aside please please ask (I know you don't do demand) for a referral to ortho...they are the ones you need to see and who will give you the best advice on what might be available to you :!:

...those foals are just too naughty. o055.gif

Hi Chris! I am trying to get the balance right between rest and exercise and thought I had it nailed. just having a wee blip and hope will be back on track! arther just doesn't give up does he :| I've got rheummy on Wed so hoping I'll get some idea when I can start the next ant tnf.....high hopes it will tame or at least reduce arther's attacks. :!:
it is so nice to see you posting..... :D:wink:

Hi Rita, thanks...I forgot about treats  might have to give that some thought, although the timing would be just perfect just now....
hope you enjoyed your time with Jenny and were being 'looked after' with that busy life you have :?:

I am getting more used to Wally but a bit weary too with not having a 'useful' hand....everything takes an age to do! but I am slowly but surely getting there.

Hi Sue, I must admit I was itching to get home  it is so much better being in your own home and especially your own bed!
my family have been great and I know I could not have managed without them in the first weeks....am still depending on them now for some/ lot of things!
thanks Sue for all your good wishes...and you're right I do need to be patient and get 'more real' about the recovery / rehab, after all my surgeon did tell me it would be at least 12 weeks and then some....

    love n hugs everyone...

    Irisxx o035.gif still exercising!

    Oh Toni!
    how awful!
7 years   how on earth have you been able to cope with that kind of pain for so long :? I can remember vividly that hip bursitis is like having red red hot needles stabbed into you...and the pain on 'accidentally' lying on it...well...it's #*+!~#.

hope the migraine doesn't last too long...gawd you're falling to bits! soon be time for the M.A.S.H. unit for you I fear. I can hear DD trying to muster the troops from their usual drunken stupor:lol:

When you see physio ask if they do acupuncture cause that's who did mine when the 'normal' physio exercises didn't work.....seems some physios are specially trained...though probably don't get any extra money for doing it!

anyway Toni...take care..pull the blinds down..and rest if you can.

    lotsa love,

Hi Iris, I see you have been over doing things with dear Wally :(
You could be right about the weather effecting Arfur. Lets hope you will be feeling better tomorrow and will be able to do just gentle exercises for a day or two.

So glad you have family helping you, such a blessing at times.

Hi Toni, Sorry that you are suffering so much. Hope the darkend room has taken the edge off the migraine and you do not feel to sickly. Ouch with the hip too, lets hope you can get some relieve there too.

Hi Iris, I hope Wally starts to recover quickly from overdoing it, it is SO easy to do.

Toni - you poor thing, hope the migraine doesn't last too long - they are awful things. I also hope the physio helps and as Iris says they or someone in their department might well be able to offer acupuncture. Really hope it helps with the pain.

Hi Iris, hope you were able to get a decent sleep last night and if not, then I hope you find time to have a doze today. You know your body will take time to get over having a general anesthetic never mind major surgery so do try to give yourself plenty of rest.
Best of luck wednesday, do hope you get some hopeful answers. Fingers crossed for you and big hugs, rita

    Hi Iris,

Hope you enjoyed it and hell I should have snuck in your pocket cus it sounds really good :D:D

I didn't get the chance to talk abut much ... she wanted to talk about the eyes even though they are not the biggest problem.... she was sounding me out I think cus I have only seen one doctor there and they are basically saying there is nothing wrong with my eyes....... well lets see if Toni can help as its similar

the rest she said needs to be a double appointment but there isn't much point I will talk to the pain clinic doc next month and save the wrists for the Rumo in October.....

Leaving ((( )))'s and the usual array of greenery with a honey grain bell and chew stick... I am off to gnaw on a bit of wood :lol::lol: Very dried out of course :lol::lol: xxxx

    Toni,

If it is similar just remember they will clear and they will be ok. ((((( ))))) xxxx

Hi Iris, bet you are exhausted after your busy day. Hope you had a fab time though. Glad Wally enjoyed his pampering!! I still have swelling right at the very top of my hip .. so early days for your swelling ... could always get the family inventor to rig up a pulley to suspend wally from ceiling .. might help!!

I had a busy day today, my young gardener came, he hasn't got a clue when it comes to borders so have had to spend the time telling him what to do ... "that's a weed, pull it out ... pull up that long grass, from the roots,... oops mind that plant ... dig a hole there, it needs to be deeper .... put this plant there ... it's only a spider .... it's only a bit of mud..." etc have been on my feet for hours and ache as much as if had gardened myself (pre-op)!! Also busy with liaising with colleges for S ...

Just realised time ... couple more posts and lights out!!

    Hi Iris

Hope you enjoyed yesterday.. no doubt you and Wally will need a restful day today!!

I picked up a paraffin hand wax kit last evening from Argos and have just had my first 'go' with it - it felt lovely and am going to have another session in a couple of hours. hardly used my hands yesterday but still had that searing pain in both hands - especially aware of it during the night - so very little sleep and not happy at all!! Am using my night-time splints....

    Hi Speedy

That sounds like a tiring day yesterday! Hope the garden is showing the benefit though..

Hi Iris, hope you had a great day yesterday and are not too tired today.

Hi Toni - that is great news about your eye. The way the human body works and doesn't work is a mystery. Sorry about the burstis though, can't anything be done?

Hi Cris, I believe you are with friends today, have a lovely day.

Hi Marion - sorry you are still suffering so much with your hands, glad the wax thing is soothing.

The garden looks much more like "my garden" should look - though isn't finished yet and the bedding plants went in a lot later than usual. I went to the garden centre today and bought a new hose as my other one was too short to reach properly right round the trampoline and a fancy nozzle for the end, plus some plant food ... and some seeds ... Then had fun messing about in the garden - lovely. Please do tell me why I constantly drop things when I'm out and have to ask people if they wouldn't mind picking them up for me - they must think I'm very lazy!! Well S is due back any minute he had a college visit today - hoping it went well for him, he took ages to fall asleep last night and so was very tired this morning.

Hi speedy, marion, cris , toni and ironic

    thanks to all!

I didn't have such a good hand therapy appt on Tuesday...was told I had probably been pushing wally too hard  so therapist kept the appointment and the exercises short!
have to go back again today...early afternoon and we'll try again!

saw rheummy yesterday.....inflammatory markers high and LFTs not too good either. :( they took more bloods cause of the LFTs and if no improvement will need to stop the Mtx for a time.
not getting to start on infliximab yet but they checked wally's wound and are sure we're not too far away from being healed. so I've to phone them when the wound has healed...with no messy bits still there...and they'll book me in very quickly to the day ward and get the anti tnf started.
Btw...I asked about certolizumab... still not approved for use for PA ..still under discussion apparently. (scotland)

Good thing was that I did get an IM steroid injection which hopefully will settle the other jangling joints for awhile.

Toni, so glad you're eyes/ migraine better. :D but the pain with the bursa is something else   I do hope you asked the doctor about it and maybe got a referral to phys?

Marion, hey! the wax bath is great isn't it?! but won't have helped with your night time pain. :( hope you get better meds for that.....can't remember what you take but Amatriptyline is good for night pain.

speedy, yes we had a good time at the Gruffalos! it was nice to do something 'normal' and nice with the little ones...I enjoyed watching their faces during the performance! :D
your garden sounds lovely....isn't it just so satisfying seeing things grow?

oh...and the reason you keep dropping things????? - you just love the attention!!:lol::lol::lol:

hope S college visit went well?

Hi Cris, I've posted on your thread (and elsewhere) and really hope that you are feeling recovered after that awful GP appointment....keep your chin up girl. we are all behind you.

ironic...how are you? you are always offering support and kindness to me and others... hope you are ok??

    Still trucking along then Iris?

    Wally behaving??

Shame the bloods are not so good - you may have to rest from teh mtx before the antiTNF? good job you had the jab then

Yep I can still see - and I WILL try the patches again next week to see if it was them - I cannae get to sleep with that blumin bursa

Sitting here is bad enough :(

    Catch you later

Hi Iris, good that the physio is giving you a second session this week. It very easy to overdo it on one side of the line is not enough and the other too much ... a hard tightrope to walk!

That's a nuisance about the mtx, but good news about the jab. Hopefully the scar will heal up totally soon and then you can start on the other meds again.
I enjoyed watching their faces during the performance!
That reminds me of taking S to the theatre ... spend more time watching his face ... sounds like you had a lovely time.

I'd rather "do" the garden over the house anytime ...
oh...and the reason you keep dropping things????? - you just love the attention!!
:lol::lol: I do it at home too, surprised I haven't worn out the pick up stick!!

S was very affectionate when he got home, so think he has got the gist of what college entails ... He had to shop and prepare his lunch (he's used to this sort of thing) and I was pleased that the lunch he chose was foods he likes and would choose for a packed lunch at home - shows he was generalising ok. No feed back from his school about it - they weren't allowed to stay  :( Now have to wait for the report. Must get on to the other college to keep the ball rolling ...

    Hi Iris

Hope you had a better physio session this afternoon.

Disappointing to hear about your raised bloods but hope the depot steroid will help and that Wally will soon be healed enough for you to be able to start the new biologic.

I just take 2 paracetamol every 6 hours but it's not controlling the hand pain, so my GP has today given me a prescription for 15/500 co-codamol ...... 30/500 made me very very sick a few years ago so I am reluctant to go near codeine again, but I'll give the lower dose a try ...

Could you give me some advice Iris about what I should 'do' with my hands overnight ... I am using my night-time splints at the moment and it seems a bit less painful if I keep my hands 'upright' as opposed to 'flat' .. is it somethingto do with the flow of blood?

    Hi Marion

I find that having my hands elevated at night does help too...I usually use pillows either side..... and post op even had the operated wrist hand strung up to a hook from the ceiling so it was completely upright.....it was the only real comfortable position I had in the first couple weeks.

elevating the hands at night...even just on pillows....helps to reduce any fluid that's been gathering (that's what both rheummy and ortho told me) but works best if hands are above heart level..if that makes sense??
if your hands are so sore that they disturb sleep then sounds like you need to get meds that will help?. I take Amatriptyline and know that lots of other peeps on here do too. Made a huge difference to my sleeping pattern even when my hands were at their worst...so please don't just suffer it, ask

Marion...if codeine doesn't suit you and you get stomach cramps then please ask your doc for something else. there are other non codeine based pain killers out there...I take Tramadol...doesn't suit everyone but is ok for me....your doc will keep you right I'm sure.

    Hi speedy,

glad S enjoyed his visit and managed as well as he did. very encouraging. you're doing a great job ....you and him.x

I had a bit of a prob at the therapy today. Wally's wound started to bleed and the therapist had to clean it and put a dressing on....mortified  My 'own' therapist is on holiday and this was her replacement....lovely lady. Got me to do (try) lots of different exercises and she thinks that they stretched the wound too much. No real harm done though I think but the exercises were quite painful. what is it they say?.... no pain no gain?

I have 'lost' the 10% back tilt that I was so pleased about last week  how did that happen? 3 steps forward 2 back.....bottom of the class. :|
    o030.gif must try harder!

Hi Iris, glad you enjoied The Gruffalo, I love that story and so do all my Grandchildren. :)
That's not good news about your LFT's and maybe stopping the Methotrexate, hopefully it won't come to that. It#s good that you got a steroid injection 'tho, I hope it sees you through this time while you're waiting for treatment with the infliximab.
How often are you going to have the physio with your hand now then? Is it weekly?
Hope you are sleeping well and otherwise looking after yourself.
I'm up to 50mg of the Amytriptyline now and they're making me really tired and sleepy but I'm off work for 2 weeks and just getting as much rest as I can. Bye for now. big hugs always, rita.
