    Hi Speedy,

I get them done by the pain clinic every 8 or so weeks and they do help. She des big horrible ones every so often and these in between. Its cortisne and local and really is nice while the local is working  It does help though xx

Hi Cris, have never been to a pain clinic. If it became a constant issue this would be a good thing to look into. I do suspect though, that if I respect the limitations of rubbish-hip until the new hip is off precautions I think I could avoid being this bad again as rubbish-hip will be sharing the load with fab new hip. Time will tell. Good to have a plan b - so thanks.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

It sounds to me, speedy and marion, as if you two are doing really well. I can see why the old hip would be hurting speedalong, it must be taking some strain off the new one, so go easy on it. Well done Sterling Moss for moving the car without dislodging anything! DD

    Hi

Yep - we're doing well even though only 7 and 8 weeks post-op!

I am all showered, made up, earrings in, perfurme sprayed - waiting for my first online supermarket delivery to arrive ... well I am leading a very 'quiet' life a the momentand you've got to make an effort haven't you....! Don't know how I will cope with doing a full day's work in a few weeks time though!!

    Speedy

:lol::lol::lol::lol: ... food delivery....highlight of the day for recovering post op peeps eh :?: talk about exciting!!! ha ha! I'm just jealous that you can put earings in!

The fingers on my fused wrist are a wee bit better thanks peeps. hot wax definitely soothes them but I think I really need an IM steroid jab to dampen things down as knees are really suffering too! problem is having to wait until wrist healed in order to start next anti tnf...

at least Wally is quieter......not listening still, and only moving a teensy bit ...but less painful now when I take the splint off for each exercise session.
my daughter made me go to hosp yesterday for them to look at the open bit of the wound....they put more steri strips on but are confident it will heal as the rest of it looks fine...so was worth going just for the reassurance.

got my first hand therapy appointment this afternoon so hope to get more advice then on how to get wally to start moving....he just stands there leaning on my elbow ignoring me! 20% is my target over 6 weeks..well it's 0% at the moment!!

went to hand therapy last year for 4mths after the left wrist fusion and the therapist is great. she's also got all the right wrist pre op measurements ...grip strength, movement (or lack of it), rotation supination, flexion, extension etc so it's a good place to start.

thanks for all good wishes! it is nice to be back even if posting's so limited.

I will let you know how I get on.. no hiding behind cushions or in wardrobe's now when I tell you what it's like

You sound in remarkably high spirits dorcas - I hope all goes well today for you.

Marion, how glammed up are you? I hope he appreciates the effort! My clients know the signs with me - earrings in, good day. No earrings, bad day. Today no earrings, and no clothes either - it's too damned hot. DD

    are not too painful.

Good job I made the effort to look good this morning - not only did my online shopping arrive, but also the gardener arrived a day earlier than expected!! whew - have to go for a lie down now after all the excitement..

    Hi Iris,

I hope your hand appointment goes well and the therapist has some good suggestions for waking Wally up a bit without upsetting him too much. Sounds sensible to initially compare Wally to how he was functioning pre-op, great that therapist can do it objectively.

I'm glad your daughter took you to the hospital, hopefully that last bit will heal quickly, best to be safe than sorry.

Do you have to wait for the wrist to be healed internally before starting back on the meds or just the scar?

Well hope you aren't too exhausted,

    Speedy

Really hope it went well today and Wally made a good debut? I still say he will learn and be good for you soon.

Leaving a ((((( ))))) maze, barley, rabbit mix with greens and apples and carrots with 3 chew sticks  Love Cris xxx

    Hey Speedy and Marion,

I also reacons you are dong really well but..... Marion you dress up for your deliveries? Mind I am no longer sure I know how to dress up :lol::lol:

what a great time you're having!!! worth all that effort eh??

 whaaaattt!!!!! no clothes  the mind boggles

you are both mad as hatters me thinks :lol::lol:

well peeps....I had my first hand therapy appointment .....and .....guess what ?.....Mandy (therapist) measured what I could do......and I have already reached 10% on the wrist tilt. whoopee!!! I was surprised and am so pleased and encouraged.

Mandy massaged both sides of the wrist but could not touch the wound as it has 'leaked' a little bit (sorry folks ..hope not been too graphic again  ) so she did not want to disturb it.
Mandy then took me through the range of wrist movements I have to do and all in all is very happy with what Wally is managing already....full marks Wally, you were listening after all so I might just let you stay.:lol:
The most difficult (painful) for me is the wrist rotation exercises..it's stiff but ok on turning the hand palm up ... achieving about half way... but when turning back over there is still resistance, shaking and the weird clickety clicking several times as it returns to palm facing down...and pain (I'm probably not explaining this very well).

I'm way ahead at this stage post op being able to do all the finger exercises and make a fist ...those tendons she tells me have benefited from such early exercising and are nice and supple.

Mandy fitted me with a pressure 'glove' for the TWR that covers the hand wrist and forearm (just leaves tips of fingers out) as she said it will serve two purposes..to reduce the swelling that is still evident..and to give my brain neural feedback from the wrist area so that my brain will 'understand' and accommodate Wally which should then improve 'communication' and increase movement. clever stuff eh?

I've to continue removing the splint and doing all the exercises...gently...4-6 times a day and go back to therapy in a week.

    Iris xxx

sorry Cris and speedy didn't see you there!

thanks for the provisions little pigeon

I can't start on new meds speedy until wound completely healed xxx

Oh Marion! must be so lovely to be able to play the violin....I can't play any musical instrument and so admire others who can.

the glove is great isn't it  does soothe as you say. will be good if it helps with Wally being recognised by my fuzzy brain.:lol:

    Cris,

I'll give both dogs a pat from you to be sure. daughter away just now to collect them so should be home quite soon. think I'll put a shield in front of me to avoid their well meaning slurps and homecoming leaping about.

Well done Iris, from the sounds of things you're doing great. Delighted to hear the early exercising has paid off and that despite the gap, your wound is mending for you. That glove sounds like it means business, is'nt it amazing what new things the powers that be, come up with. I hope it helps. :)
I'm sure it's difficult to be waiting on treatment with all this going on but hopefully the days are not too slow in passing for you. do take all the pain meds you need to and treat yourself to something nice as well.
Hang in there my friend, thankfully you are able to pop in and out here and know everyone is rooting for you.
Jenny will be visiting me for a few days from tomorrow so I may not be able to get on but I'll try.
    big hugs, rita

Hi Rita :D so pleased you've got Jenny coming to stay....hope you have a lovely few days together. :!: remember to rest though as fibromy is an unforgiving condition on top of the PA.

I'm feeling so good about this op.......ok there are...and will be.. ups and downs and I won't have a complete range of movements; but essentially it will make a huge difference to the pain I had and that has to be good.
the next op on the left hand is likely to be next year and that too will improve things for me tremendously.

I will have to wait a little longer me thinks to start on the anti tnf infliximab but that's ok too. we arther peeps are all experts at waiting!

being on the forum and having such a lot of support daily has really helped me keep positive and lifted my spirits. I feel as though I have not been on my own through any of this.

    take care Rita...love n hugs,

What on earth are you doing ironing  .....are you completely mad, diabolical :?: you need to rest not push yourself! can't leave you for a minute...better night, so what do you do? iron :!:

I never...yes...never iron. It's just not a priority when arther has taken hold and most things just need smoothed as you hang them out and folded after they're dry.
When absolutely necessary get someone else to iron!!! tell them it's a 'no go zone' for you and you'll be surprised at the result.

please DD stop! you've had such a bad time recently. x
