Gosh I was socked at the amount of snow we have got up to...we only had an inch when we went to bed...more like 8 now... what did I say about spring....
Toni how nice a spa weekend...next time you go we will get the bus out then we can all come
applerose this retirement thing is awful...I only have the state pension and so does hubby...so he is keeping on working... :x

I think it's 69 for may age group
scary eh?
Will they stop you getting your bus pass then till that age? and also they should let you get DLA mobility part until the same age don't you think? Mind it's changing anyway.....better stop moaning
Stay warm and safe everyone in this weather.
Barbara you would all be very welcome to come with me to the Spa it is wonderful......sigh

Morning Everyone
It's just begun to snow and looks very bleak out there. Barbara - sounds terrible where you are - hope you can stay safe and snug indoors.
My state pension kicks in at 66..... I will say no more. When I first started work there was so much talk about men receiving their pension at 60.... How differently things have turned out. I count myself very fortunate to have been able to hang up my boots and feel for those who have no choice but to struggle on.
Toni.... you lucky thing Wish you had said....we could all have hobbled along to join you . Hope you recover soon
Right, I fancy a nice hot chocolate. Anyone care to join me?0 -
Morning Toni....Do I need my bikini....I have a lovely spotted one... I dont think...
Catie yeah in a way my hubby is lucky to get his state pension at 65..he just made it....he did have a personal one but we canceled it years ago because we needed the money.. ..at least the government didn't get there mits on it...
Wish we had a 4by4 we could get out... oh well nice and warm we are...
See you later xxxxLove

Afternoon. Life has returned to my knees at last. I managed to do a spot of tidying last night, piles of paperwork, bits of plastic, drink cartons, even old food all left on the various floors waiting for muggins here to recover.
Now Toni how can you need to recover from a spa???? Was it all the wine.
Barbara I did see the Warrington bombing 20th commemoration on TV and was so sad. Those 2 boys would be all grown up now and living life to the full.
Hope you are all coping,

Afternoon all
Well, Tonies parents had a good time except for the last week. Tonies dad left his bum bag on a bus and it had rather a lot of money in, so last week was tinned soup and pasta. But they had a lovely time. They have gone now. I am not able to be on lappy for long, my elbow is killing me and using lappy seems to make it worse, so, if you dont see me for a while that is why.
We've had snow this morning, but thankfully the ground is to wet for it to settle.
Barbara, 8 inches, thats not good. Hope it all goes very soon.
Hope everyone is reasonably ok and keeping warm.Karen xx0 -
Well what awful weather,we have had continuous snow since yesterday afternoon,it was very fine snow,it's only just stopped how long for I don't know, but it's built up a bit.
Got a nice gammon joint for tomorrow's lunch, will boil it and use the stock for soup,we have a gadget called a nicer dicer for chopping the veg oh does them as he likes playing with it,so it will be soup for Monday and gammon sandwiches with mustard or piccalilli, don't know if there will be pudding yet.
Keep warm and safe everyone.Mig0 -
Evening
Elizabeth ..its sounds like our house....hope you now have your feet up
Karen poor Tonys dad....bet he feels awful...I once did that with my holiday wages from work...would you believe I got it all back ...them were the days
Mig..I keep watching the nicer dicer on the TV..let me know how you get on with it..
I said we had all that snow this morning what I didnt know was that it had drifted at the top of our road into 5ft drifts...we have live here nearly 40 years and I have never seen it like that...people have been leaving there cars...and walking..the daft thing is the police are still letting drivers and walkers come up...gosh knows what will happen in the dark
I will see you later xxxxxLove
Barbara0 -
We have had our dicer for about two years ,you can cut fine or chunky,if you want finer you have to cut veg smaller than for chunky, the chunky is harder to push down which is why oh does it,we wouldn't be without ours now,so much quicker than chopping by hand. Mig0

Barbara, I saw on the news that some areas were really bad with the snow. The cars were so deep that the diggers were above them on top of the snow. They reckoned on about 5 feet.
Toni, I checked the age for bus passes and it said it was the same as the retirement age. I think it's a great idea for us all to go to the spa. it'll be wonderful.
Yes Catie, it seems everything is changing and I worry I'll never get to retire. I remember there was mention of putting men's retirement age down to 60 but it was changed because we are living longer and they can't afford to pay pensions for so long.
Glad your knees are feeling better Elizabeth. Hope you didn't overdo it picking up all those things.
Karen, what rotten luck for Tony's dad to have left his bum bag on the bus. Just as well they were able to have a good time though. Hope your elbow feels better soon.
Mmmm, Mig. Gammon soup and sandwiches sounds delicious. Maybe you could leave some in the cafe for us.
Hot chocolate by the fire and off to bed for me. Sleep well everyone.Christine0 -
Morning All
I think it will be soup on the menu then mig
applerose - l think you're right about retirement age - thing is that those paying taxes NOW are supporting those retired/ill. It's nlot really what we think it is like 'saved' in a pot for us when we get there
We are all living longer and there are more of us too
I hope Karen's elbow is a bit better today. Awful to have lost all that money. At lesat no-one has starved though.
Barbara it's STILL snowing here. I have had enough of it and hope it stops soon. Poor Daisycat is not best pleased and Charley can't drive. Stepdaughter's test is tomorrow so suppose that will be postponed too
See you all later
love
Toni xx0 -
Pot of soup on big enough for everyone.
Still snowing in nottm,we have had more snow this last two days than we have had all winter, really fed up with it now.
Keep warm everyone .Mig0 -
morning all
Applerose...like I said in 40 years we have never had snow drifts like this....I bet the drift are walls of ice now we have asked the police to close the rd...but not yet they haven't....
Toni ...bless little daisy cat....must say next doors Jake isn't very pleased..wounder if you can buy wellingtons for cats... and you poor step daughter ..I bet she just wanted that teats out of the way....hopefully she will take it very soon...good luck to her...
Mig thanks for the info on the dicer......I would love one..especially for summer with all the salads
Its is bitterly cold here minus 1this morning.. but its the wind.that is making matters worse..
now if I get all my winter clothes out the sun will appear...so get ready everyone....
I will have a cuppa and sit on the fire...and that is not a typing error...
see you all later xxxxxxLove

Morning Barbara and Everyone
It's snowing here, but as we've only had about an inch, not too bad. Sounds terrible where you are Barbara. Now watch that fire
Karen, how awful for your FIL. Years ago we were on holiday in Italy and a chap who was partially sighted (british) was mugged for his bum bag. Felt so sorry for him.
Mig.... soup - just the job for this weather.
Toni... Our cat is just the same as Daisy. Will have to watch his weight as he has piled on the pounds with lounging around the whole time
Better go and do some work.....0 -
Evening all
Catie I hope you get your jobs done...I cant get going today...I keep looking at my ironing....thats has far has I get...
No more snow...but what we have is now solid ice..
think I will have a cuppa and an hotcross bun...my son has just brought us some from M&*...they are delicious...and very cheap....hope you are all keeping warm...see you later...Love
Barbara0 -
Ooh, what's that singeing smell? Is it you sitting on the fire Barbara? Mmmm, M&* hot cross buns. Delicious but I can't eat them as I have an intolerance to wheat.
Toni, hope your stepdaughter isn't made to take her test in the snow. I'm sure they'll postpone it but she's probably already psyched herself up to take it.
I haven't done a thing today apart from putting the washing machine on and sitting catching up on some of the programmes I've recorded.
Mig, I'll have a bowl of your lovely soup please? It smells delicious.Christine0 -
applerose same here...my pile of ironing will do itself if I leave it any longer...you say you have an intolerance to wheat..I have heard a lot about this recently...do you mind me asking what test were done .
I have had awful stomach probs for years now and someone mentioned this to me ....
right we will have to get wheat free cakes and bread I will make a note..
See you later xxxLove
Barbara0 -
Barbara, I had a poo test done (sorry if tmi  ) to rule out cancer and a blood test to rule out coeliac disease. I had to keep a diary for a month writing down everything I ate and drank and what symptoms I had. Next I had to keep the same diary but I had to cut out all wheat. It was remarkable how much I improved. It was almost immediate.Christine0
-
Thank you applerose....I will look into this...I might just try cutting out wheat to see if it has any effect...xLove
Barbara0 -
It is amazing where you'll find it. Not only in bread and cakes but some soups and lots of ready meals and lots more. Best check the ingredients on everything you buy. I became wheat free last April and find I can now tolerate a tiny bit - eg I'll have a slice of wheat toast for Sunday breakfast or a tiny bit of stuffing once in a blue moon, usually if I am staying at home all day and am more able to cope with the symptoms.Christine0
-
Oh I hadn't a clue it would be in soups I might ask to be tested ...it years since they did, and I don't think they had heard of wheat intolerance...I know one thing the amytriptaline seemed to help calm my stomach down...thank you again xLove
Barbara0 -
Just had a few Rebels chocolates and thought there were raisins in one so checked the ingredients. Guess what? There is wheat flour in them.Christine0
-
Morning to everyone
Hope you are all okish. I heard on the news that a lot of areas have lost their electric, so I am hoping that most of you are not affected.
We've been lucky down here again. No snow. SORRY
I have put the heating right up for you and put the kettles on and grill. I am going to make myself a cuppa and sit by the window. So you know where I am if you want to join me.Karen xx0 -
You will be alright with my soup fresh veg and gammon stock nothing else.
We have bright sunshine today bitterly cold, the snow is frozen so you can here it crunching under foot.Staying in the warm, just watching Jeremy Kyle ! Mig0
