    Hello everyone,

Nasty weather here today. I really hoped, having missed all the lovely summer weather, that we might have a pleasant Autumn. Oh well, maybe next month.

I hope Elizabeth`s Lucy is feeling a bit better by now. Like most mums, certainly those here, I hate to hear of children suffering. Thinking of you and your girls too, Toni? I imagine you are worrying so much about the one leaving for Uni. Try not to. They have wonderful student health facilities, and take great care of any with a known problem.

I had my telephone consult with my GP. She is quite certain that I have overdone things - I have! - since I came home, and really upset the nerves around the spine. She said to have complete rest for a few days, and has upped my nerve pain meds. She will ring me again on Wednesday, and make a home visit if I feel that`s necessary. I felt much better for all that, and things have settled down a lot now.

Barbara, don`t do too much clearing, or you`ll end up like me....daft bugger that I am.......Rosie.x.

    Hi Everyone :)

It's chiily here as well...summer seems to have disappeared so quickly :o

Rosie, hope everything settles for you soon. It must be difficult being on your own and striking the balance between what has to be done and resting.

Elizabeth, so pleased that the ear defenders are back. It must be a relief to you to know that there is something that will help your son. Hope Lucy feels better soon - poor little soul.

Hope everything goes well for your daughter's op, Toni - my fingers are crossed for her :)

Barbara, I thought we were the 'only' ones not to have a dishwasher :). I feel the same way as you - by the time you have loaded the machine etc, the dishes could be washed and away.

Yesterday was our Wedding Anniversary......37 years..... just don't know where those years disappeared to :o

Karen, so pleased your daughter has settled in so well - makes all the difference I know.

Love to everyone not mentioned who pops in :)

happy 37th wedding anniversary Catie. x I hope you both had a lovely day.

Rosie I know there are certain things that have to be done but do take it as easy as you can. I was also hoping for a nice autumn as we have had lovely warm weather for the past 2 years. But its changed almost overnight.

Well I hope Karen is resting as she's not popped in today.

All mine are back at school as Lu suddenly turned the corner. But I will still be taking her to the GP as I need to know how best to prevent it happening again.

barbara glad your hip is doing well. mine has got worse but I will still need to hold off until the right time.

Toni I hope your daughter is all prepared. Tell her not to worry and she'll be right as rain soon. When is your other daughter off to uni Toni? I was not up to speed when you were talking about it on here, just rushing through posts. Sorry .
I'm going off for a rest now. Take care all

    Hi Everyone :)

Barbara and Elizabeth, many thanks for your kind thoughts :)

Elizabeth, glad to hear Lucy is much better now, but I think you're wise to pop her along to the docs anyway.

Barbara, you do well with the decorating. I'm not allowed near a paint brush - just as well as everything would look a mess :) The labrador sounds a real softie :)

Henrycat went to the vets this morn for his annual jabs and mot. We were sat patiently waiting to be called when in walked a very frenzied goat by the name of Pepsie. He's 'a regular' at the surgery by all accounts and this time he had come along because he had swallowed a plastic bag . He jumped the queue as a matter of urgency and mayhem then broke out because one of the dogs attacked another waiting to be seen. It was total chaos  We were exhaused by the time we arrived back home :D

It's very quiet here, so hope everyone who visits is well :)

Yep a bit quiet in the cafe today. Have we had any postcards from the travellers yet?

    Happy Anniversary Catie :) 37 years well-done you :)

You veterinary story was very entertaining  a goat of all things - still cheaper than having the vet out I expect.

Rosie what a relief to have confirmation that you have 'only' overdone it. Please do rest up now and take care

Barbara thanks all will no doubt be well on Weds and Rosie thanks I am reassured that biggun will be ok at University should she have one of her 'dos' :) You will miss the kids - it's what we women do best

I used to love decorating too like you. Husband is rubbish at it too ::) Lovely having a dog with you :)

Elizabeth I am so glad your Lu is so well now :) Good for you too to get some rest. Charley has 'fresher's' next week....and Lucy's op Weds - Charley going to stay with us if she can for that. I do not think they'll let her, but se can visit when we get back and drive us there and back maybe.

Has Karen been in? Have I missed her?

Hope everyone is well and taking it steady sunny today but blustery!

Never send postcards Elizabeth.... Now I'm wondering if anyone else does because we certainly don't receive any :? I remember going off on my hols as a child and having to send the world and his dog a card.... on my mother's insistence of course. Perhaps that's why I shudder at the thought now :)

Good to see you out and about Catie. Is there a clip of 'mayhem at the vets' on youtube? :D

I have left my wife in France. Goodness knows if she'll be back :) I had to drag myself back for a retirement party. One of my former colleagues is about to 'hang up his boots' :).

    Best wishes to all :)

Back to chilly GB then Mr O? Congrats on the new Granddaughter. Does she live in France? I don't send postcards but then I never go far but we do sometimes get them from the Grandparents, but we didn't get any this year and OH drove them to the airport too  but we did get 4 bars of nougart.

I spoke too soon; Lu came home and had a difficult evening. I can't go into details but the meds kicked in big time. I suppose its a good thing but makes going to school challenging! So she was late to school this morning to make sure she was okay.

freshers next week Toni. So she is still at home? The other daughters op is tomorrow? Yes...I'm a bit confused.

I hope karen is just catching up and all is well at home.

Hope you slept well Rosie. Have you got a teasmade net to your bed? I'd love one of those but there is no room on the chest of drawers...its chokka with books and paper and toys!

barbara have a nice day too.

Charlie has found a flat in London. She hasn't given me any details so its probably a dump. She knows I'll worry (but actually I'm pleased she is so independent as my hands are full as it is)! The 4th bedroom is nearly ready now. painted and the double bed is up (I know I'm going to be needed to watch him most of the night so I thought I might as well be comfy)and I only need a new mattress. the furniture is rubbish but will just replaced later.OH is now in the loft sleeping on the old singe bed.....until everything is finally sorted.

well my post is a bit long, sorry.....just seen Coco. I'm ure it will all settle down again. my boy has a training day Monday-only just gone back!

It is raining again here ...I hate putting the heating on and lining the pockets of the gas provider... OH is working so I am in on my own rest day I think after a bad night...I hope everyone is wellish will see you later xxxxx

    Hello everyone,

Cold here this morning, and windy. Like you Barbara, I don`t like having the heating on this early, although I have turned most of the radiators off. Just heating the rooms I use.

I`ve had almost complete rest since I spoke to my GP. It has helped the pain in my leg, but it certainly hasn`t taken it away. Maybe it`s me being too impatient and I have read on reputable forums that this is quite common following my type of spinal surgery. It`s just that it happened four weeks post op, and not right away as I would have imagined it would, if it was the nerves. I tried to drive this morning - she said I could - but the pain became unbearable, so I had to come home. That has upset me because driving is a lifeline for me. Anyway, my doctor is ringing me again tomorrow so I`ll see what she says. This resting lark is OK, but it gives too much time to think - and imagine things!

Good to hear that things are improving for everyone......well except for Elizabeth`s little Lu, who`s had a set back. The Goat in the Vets sounds like the title of a James Herriot novel Catie! Pleased that you are recovering so well....well enough to sit through runaway goats and dog fights. I`d have been outta there quicker than you could say "Pedigree Chum"......Rosie.x.

Rosie, having just spoken with Catie, I think today she's paying the price for yesterday. As I told her.... you can't rush 'recovery'....it is a gradual process :). I hope things settle for you quickly - it is early days and I'm sure things will improve.

Thank you for your messages of congratulations with respect to Amélie.
She was a week early and weighed in at 7llbs - a little charmer - but I might be a little biased :). Elizabeth, my son married a French girl and they have settled in France. They live in a beautiful location and so I can't see them returning to the UK. You are right about the weather - quite a contrast. I hope your daughter has managed to find a decent flat in London and doesn't have to pay over the odds for it.

Toni, I hope your daughter's op goes well :)

    Best wishes to all :)

Hi Everyone. On the subject of dishwashers, I was told that if you back problems you should not be bending to load/unload them. I did what I was told, don't think it's made any improvement to my poor back, but may have helped with water/electricity bills! Did try to use it some while ago, but it has given up working now anyway.

Cool and damp down here too today.

Hope you are all having as good a day as possible.

Thanks Mr O for those kind words of encouragement. I`m sorry that Catie is having a little set back. It`s hard to get the balance right. I`ve been reminding myself of all that`s happened to me, in the hope of accepting things better - ten weeks in two hospitals, and a rehab unit. Firstly with septicemia, and discitis, then decompression surgery. All the time unable to walk. Now, I`m getting around with just my stick...well when this leg numbness/pain lets me...but I`m still expecting to be running around like Seb Coe, and driving like Stirling Moss!! Daft woman.

Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter. What a lovely name. I have two granddaughters to meet in October. Only one has a name so far, but it`s very beautiful.....Nerea.....her mummy is Spanish.

Barbara, if you sound like my mother - or yours, I imagine - it would only be wise words, so thanks....Rosie.x.

Toni all the best for today's op.I'm sure it will all go well too but its still an op and she will need to get over the effects of the anaesthetic which is an ordeal in itself. Looking forward to hearing the good news.

Rosie I can understand your need to get on with things after such a long time in hospital. I'd be the same.Just do a little each day as you cannot afford any setbacks and soon you'll be out-and-about again. Shame about the driving as I bet you were looking forward to that.
And Catie too...hopefully its the after effects of all that partying :D but look after yourself.

Mr O is the wife back yet? How did your reunion go?

Been to the GP (for LU, she's on 'temporary' mend) and I took the opportunity to book all my blood/flu etc and order my prescriptions and go shopping in B**ts as I usually have to rely on others.

I've been playing words with Karen on fb, we usually only manage one word each a day,but she may be struggling to get on AC.

good point about dishwashers. I find bending dreadful, one reason why I can't garden and can only sort through toys and books a little at a time. I've been planning to get one for ages as standing can be a problem too.I'll bear that in mind.

Dan is at his club so not home until 7. So its a kind of respite day for me, a chance to get either more done or rest. I need to sort out a laptop as the other one is playing up quite a lot and to buy a new mattress and the fridge is playing up. these things have to be done! He also broke the airer and I'll be needing that with wet weather (although its nice today).

Coco and Barbara hope all is well with you both,Is it injections tomorrow Barbara or has it been cancelled!

Hi everyone. I'm baaaack. Thank you for missing me. You are all so lovely.

I've read all the posts but can't remember now everything that's going on.

Barbara, how lovely having the dog for a while. When are you having your injections? It must be any time now.

Toni, hope all went well for Lucy's op.

There was mention of dishwashers being bad for the back. I've seen table top ones advertised so no bending down.

Mr O, what a lovely name they've chosen for the baby. I'm not surprised your wife has stayed a while.

Elizabeth, hope Lu improves again soon. I'm sure Charley will be fine. Even if her flat is a dump, it'll be her dump and she'll clean it and make it her own.

Hi Beryl. Hope you are as well as you can be.

Rosieglow, glad you are improving but don't be doing too much.

Karen, hope you are doing ok.

Coco, isn't it typical that they are all at college at different times. Hope you manage to find a little 'me' time.

Catie, sorry I'm a bit late but happy anniversary. I guess it wasn't fun having the dogs fighting but the story about the goat was funny.

Had a great time in Spain. Spent most of the time running after my 2 grandchildren. Tyg is 2 and a half and knows his own mind but he is very funny. It was Nyv's 1st birthday while we were there and since she started walking, it was so difficult to get her in to her buggy while we were out and about but she is always laughing. I left 30 degrees and sun to come home to 10 degrees and autumn. And I'm deaf in one ear with a wax build-up. The receptionist at my GPs said they don't syringe any more. You have to put drops of oil in your ear yourself. I hope that works quickly as I can't stand the noise in there. It's deafening.

hi Applerose so glad you had a lovely time in Spain and are now safely home albeit with a nasty ear. Lucky you having all that warm snshine for an etra week or so.

No sign of Toni yet. Karen must be exhausted and having some quiet time. hope all is well for your both.

Charlie knows I worry. the rent in London is so high, landlords and agents rip people off and of course there is the safety issue. still its what she wants to do. she's mention the USA so I bet that will be next.

Well I'll pop in later and see if the others have made it to the cafe. poor rosie and Catie need to take it easy and Barbara has her other bad hip.

    Speak later

Just had a log burner installed - hope to get it working one day :). My son informs me there is def a knack to them - he's not kidding.

Elizabeth, the party went well thank you. I've known the guy for 30+ years, so couldn't have missed it.

Hope Catie and Rosie are feeling stronger with each day. Also, that the op went well Toni, and also the injections Barbara.
Glad you had a good holiday Christine.
