Barbara yes they are not resident mice, they are ones the cat is going & hunting for and bringing back here from goodness knows where, the nearest 'field-y' bits I suppose. I have only ever had one house mouse, it got in the brickwork and went round most rooms in the house scratching in the wall cavity over a couple of days and giving me the wind up not knowing what it was  til it found a way out & appeared downstairs. Got a humane trap like yours & it went in in no time flat & although everyone said that a) there would be bound to be more than one and b) that one would come back, it didn't. But you are right they do supposedly come back which is why people prefer to get rid of them altogether. :( Glad you are using a 'nice' trap. :)

Good for you all standing up to the cobbles plan applerose, you have to put up some sort of fight against these proposals wherever possible or they just do what they like.. and sometimes protests etc do work so it's worth it.. you will certainly need a cushion if it's cobbles. Ow.

Well I must sign off as well, there has been a lot of me in the cafe people will say I have no sooner had my tea than I am back expecting a refill.

Our cafe hedgehog was showing definite signs of being lively earlier & ready to go so I gave it a nice plate of all those things you can eat when you are a hedgehog as in the advert :D & it has scuffled away happily to join Mr Pindsvin (DD's 'hog') and all the others. As there are some crumpets left I am off to have one myself. I will pass you one if you are awake enough barbara but you might nod off & get buttery bedclothes. Night to you & all. xx

    Morning all
Toady we have many mice...they just walk in when the doors is open...  we used traps years ago but it was to upsetting :( so we bought the boxes that catch them and we release them...but like I say they have homing instincts.. you spend time in the cafe...think I am worse... I would have normally been out and about...maybe when I have my other THR you will see less of me...ok I can hear you cheering...
    See you all later xxx

Morning all,Well got back just after 6 last night, didn't like Bournemouth one bit,we were lead to believe the hotel overlooked the beach it was in fact a 5 min walk away and way away from the town ,there are two cliffs in bournemouth one of them west and the east we were at east, you needed to be a mountaineer to get to the beach, the weather was very windy and we only had rain in the night and early morning ,the trip to Portsmouth was good but very expensive to see all the attractions,we also went to a delightfully little resort called Swanage .Meet some really really nice people.
Well that's us done till the end of May when we go on a five day mini cruise that was a combined Xmas and hubby birthday gift from our children, they have booked and paid for everything all I have to do is pack !
Just done on line shop will be arriving tomorrow morning, pile of washing to keep me going, going to have a coffee and read back on the forum to see what I've missed. Mig

Hi Toady she has always been great at quizzes so that is why she said her reputation was at stake. She studied Japanese but swapped to linguistics so I wonder if they'd have given her that question if they knew? I didn't realise she was coming to London as her Dad and I split up ages ago but today is his 50th and they went out to celebrate at the weekend. I didn't mind not seeing her as she is busy and its his special weekend. Well done on getting 7. Did you know the water-horse question?

Well I only woke up at 1 o clock after a late night but feel great!

Sorry your hotel wasn't up to scratch Mig and a difficult walk to the beach.

Applerose I love medieval and Tudor buildings and everything should be preserved so I hope your petition does the job.

Going to sign off as Lucy has arrived home and wants her laptop.

Evening :) just having a cuppa and a sit down, have pottered back in from the local shop (recently re-opened with new owners after being shut for a while), which as it's the nearest, I'm glad it's back.. I can do that distance at a pinch but only now & again do I bother. Used to be where the PO was too, which made it more point going but not so much without it.

Yes barbara we'd probably all be in here less if we were out more.. (so to speak) very true. I'm not 100% sure anymore if I'm on the net &c a lot because I'm too tired to do other things, or too tired to do the 'other things' because I'm frittering my energy on the net &c. I suspect if I rested up properly for a couple of weeks I would find out. Maybe your mice are just the same 1 or 2 that have been coming back for years. The sweet peas sound nice :) I have some dwarf seeds from last year's plants, that's about the opposite.. I haven't grown proper climbing ones for a long time. Haven't had lemon curd for years either for some reason, I do like it so I will be interested to try yours.

Sorry your trip was a bit disappointing mig, you'd think firms wouldn't have the cheek to exaggerate their info these days when they know you can look at photos online and aerial views & all that. I suppose there's not much people won't try, to gloss up what they are selling you.

I did get the water horse question TK just because it does turn up on quizzes now & again. As I say I doubt I would have answered the ones I did on the radio, it must be hard & people's minds do go blank even when it's stuff you know perfectly well, you see it all the time on quiz shows. Glad she kept up her quizzing reputation :D wasn't sure if she meant her 'brainy' reputation in general. Shame you couldn't see her this visit but I see why, nice that she could get down to her Dad's at all. I only remember Newcastle very vaguely from going there once or twice when younger visiting relatives. Glad you feel better for sleeping in. :D

The phone just rang & was number withheld presumably sales, awful that I'm relieved it's not actually a person but that's the way of it these days with the phone..

Hello Joan too. Hope things are not too bad with you. Quite chilly tonight I reckon, hope it warms up for everyone soon, xx

Elizabeth sorry I missed your daughters on the quiz..mind you I am not very good at quiz's..saying that I loved who wants to be a millionaire and the best I did was £75,000..wish I had been in the seat...
Toady ..I don't have any patience with the phone...I don't mind face to face..bet you are thinking you do enough talking on here... :o
These are the first sweet peas I have grown ..mind you they are already a foot tall..sorry don't do metric.. :? I do think this laptop is making my neck worse..even though I have it has high as poss..will have to limit the time.. :(
Today it is cloudy and chilly..hubby is off work so garden here we come..just trying to get the large patch were the pond was for grass seed..
And I am going to make the lemon curd today wish me luck.. :)

Toady, I remember one Xmas, when my kids were little, we heard mice scratching up in the loft. When we got the kids Xmas chocolates down (we hid all their toys up there), they had all been nibbled. One night, something fell on the bed, I screamed, jumped out of bed and ran out of the room. Another time, when we went up to a cottage we had in the countryside to clean, I opened the grill up, took the grill pan out and there was a mouse running round and round in it. I screamed and through it up in the air. Mice don't scare me if I can see them in the garden but do scare the life out f me if I see one suddenly. I feel as if we are fighting one thing after another here at the moment. Many people say it's a waste of time but I say you have to at least let them know how you feel.

Mig, sorry your trip wasn't as good as you'd hoped. It's very disappointing when they don't describe the accommodation properly. Hope you're cruise is much better.

Hi Joan. Hope you have had a good day.

It's good to try new garden centres, isn't it Barbara? I love sweet peas. Not heard of the everlasting ones. They sound good. Don't forget to bring some lemon curd in to the cafe for us all to try. My neck hurts too when I'm on the laptop. It's difficult getting it in to a good position.

Good to hear you feel great Elizabeth. It would be good to be able to speak Japanese but don't think I could ever learn it. My boss's wife has a Japanese friend. She is in her 30s, still lives in Japan and said she hasn't learned Japanese properly yet as it is so complicated.

Well would you believe it? We've just been told they are closing our police station. We won't recognise our town by the time they've finished. I've been good and did an online shop last night. That's why I didn't get in here. It took me all evening. Only needed to spend £25 with £1 delivery from Asd*. Got it at teatime. Also made an appointment for next week to get my hip seen to. I did something to it a week before Xmas. It did seem to get a bit better but has been very painful this week.

A late call-in from me, not sure what happened to today, nothing to report just pottering or having the odd nap. Hah rang me & I think now that was probably them phoning yesterday & the few other number-withheld's I've had the last few days, they always used to leave a message before.. so have obviously decided to ring & ring instead. Which means having to go & pick up the phone, and take a call I don't know who is from  If it was them; if it wasn't sorry Hah for slandering you.

Yes surprise mice are an entirely different thing to just seeing & not minding a mouse applerose, not surprised you fled when one fell on you! I like them & would be happy picking one up etc, (they wouldn't like it of course so I wouldn't, but I mean in principle) unlike some people, but I wouldn't want one running over me thank you. Sorry about your police station, it is one thing after another with our towns as you say, when I think back to what small towns & facilities used to be like it's so sad. Lovely buildings, proper banks with polished wood fittings, nice shops & not just plate glass
ugliness.. well it's all been said before.. thing is it will never go back the other way, will it. People will look back and be amazed there were things like subsidized buses, every 15 minutes like we had once here. Sorry about your painful hip, I expect you were hoping it would go away without a trip to the medics. :(

Hope you got somewhere with the garden barbara, it was nice here for an hour or so this morning thought it was going to be lovely but then it turned. Yes face to face is better than the phone when you feel up to it, but for keeping in touch at a distance, I have people who mostly prefer the phone to emails or skype or texting whereas I'd much rather have any of the latter. Much more convenient.. none of this ringing at awkward times or having people put you on the spot while you think of your reply. Looking forward to the lemon curd. :D Think I'll have a bowl of cereal as I'm swimming in tea today, hope everyone has a good Thursday xx

Toady, there have been times, when the phone has rung (is it rung or rang? My mind has gone blank with that one.) and I've thought it could be someone I didn't want to talk to at that moment but they haven't left a message. Even if it's only to say who it is would help. If I get an answering machine, I always say who I am and say I'll phone later.

I know there are a lot of places round the country all fighting to either keep something or stop something new. Just wish the councils would listen to what the people want and not just give them what they think will be best for them. One of our councillors has slipped up, I think. I said that the paving slabs on the pavements in our High Street are sticking up causing people to trip. She said a certain amount of tripping is acceptable by law  . So I have asked her 'Is it then acceptable for people to trip on paving slabs but not cobbles?' Funny, I got no reply. We have had quite a lot of disabled people signing the petition as they don't need to walk on the cobbles. There are flat surfaces to get across the road and to the town hall where the toilet is.

Yes, I have been putting off going to my GP. I'd rather it just got better on it's own.

Elizabeth, hope you enjoy your walk and the weather is pleasant.

My niece is getting rather excited as it's her wedding tomorrow. I can just picture her. She never stops talking normally but I bet no-one gets a word in at all today.

I had the morning off but better get in to gear for this afternoon. :(

The walk went well, Lucy and I walked part way round the turned back and OH and Son took the long route. There are plenty of seats beside the lake so I had frequent stops.

Unfortunately my Son had 2 episodes since we got home, one noisy car and one lawnmower. It has taken ages and 3 creme eggs to calm him down but he is settled now. I had to hide the back door and garage keys to prevent him from going out to swear.

I decided it would be a good idea to wash the bedding today but now I need a lie down and it is still unmade (OH has gone for a lie down but I doubt he has even put a sheet on the mattress let alone quilt cover and pillow cases). But happy to be proved wrong

What happened to your ankle? I'm sorry I missed that. You had a fall?

Yep this walk is one of the best for seating. All the benches are dedicated to loved ones too.

Hope next door were't too noisy. I know you would never get cross with children but it is nice to sit in a quiet garden at times.

Hi Joan. It's not been a bad day here, weatherwise. The sun shone a bit and was quite warm although the wind was a little chilly.

Oh Barbara, hope your ankle isn't giving you too much pain. Glad it's not broken but not good to hear about the wear and tear. Glad you cleared that up. Was wondering who you'd been feeling. I did something to my hip the week before Xmas. Thought I'd pulled a muscle in my lower back but the pain moved to in my hip and top of my leg so I think it might be strained ligaments. it was getting better but has been much worse this week. I can cope with work as I can potter about or do ironing (although it's worse when I stand still) and I can sit down now and again. Can't walk too far either. That's good that you got your money back. Sometimes it's worth persevering.

Glad you enjoyed your walk Elizabeth. It sounds lovely, especially being able to sit for a while. Sorry your son got upset. I imagine it is very tiring for you so no wonder you couldn't get the bed made. Did OH help? If he's like most men, he probably didn't even notice.

Forgot to mention earlier. I got a letter yesterday saying I can have my free central heating boiler. I'm getting it in a few weeks. Can't wait.

Might not have time to call in tomorrow as I'm working in the morning and it's my niece's wedding later in the afternoon. Not sure what time I'll be home.

Christine I am so very pleased for you , such a weight off your mind :D bet you cant quite believe it :o ..hope you have a lovely day at the wedding and everything goes smoothly ..I think the weather is going to be good.. :D and plenty of siting down for you..in between all the dancing ...you enjoy.. :D
Today the ankle is swollen but not really painful so its strapped up..the sun is shinning and I already use crutches so I will hopefully get out.. :D my bee box came and that will go up on the fence..and my lights..dragonfly's and little blue flower solar ones...

Applerose you are correct. He went to sleep on the bare mattress and uncovered quilt and pillows. Unfortuately when I got the bedding out he manage to start a row giving him the 'excuse' to walk off and leave me to it.

He has taken our Son out today to give me a break. He has regained a few brownie points.

Great news about the boiler Applerose.

Barbara you will have to be extra slow and careful when walking. I remember times when I was so unsteady on my feet that even stepping over an incy wincy object was an ordeal.

Thank you for the kettle barbara.. :D running late & trying decide if I'll feel worse if I go and lie down now (I did yesterday & wished I hadn't bothered, went off to sleep & woke up foozled like you do..) or if I'll be more tired if I don't. Tea will be nice I might take it up with me for a mini-rest. :)

Sorry about your fall :( typical to catch yourself on a little thing like that, how unfair when you've been as careful as possible round the house with hazards. Hope the swelling goes down soon.. how long will it be strapped I expect you have to go back & see about it.. Glad you've got your bee box that seems quick from when you sent for it, all sounds lovely with your lights &c. 2 pics from my gardening 'doings' (should be in gardening thread really but I'll get over there too sometime) - last year's asparagus peas are flowering, didn't expect them to but as they lasted the winter I left them in, pretty little things.. I've started more off as I was late with them last year & they didn't get to the actual pea stage which will be interesting.. also my cerinthe seedlings, I know I've posted them before but they are growing almost as you watch and I love them  so photo'd them again.
    ap150_zpsf60f1c2a.jpg cer150_zps0aa5e35d.jpg

You can imagine how much I would've enjoyed the kiddies on their trampoline  talking of neighbours, one of mine at the back has just cut back a shrub I was admiring this morning & had just got to the stage where it gave good screening between gardens, and they haven't made a very good job of it either. I come out to the front of the house, & there's 3 chaps with ladders airily trimming my neighbour's conifer & having come onto my garden to get at this side. Nice of them to ask :o what's the point saying anything though, you would be looked at like a stroppy female & get told to keep your hair on.. and probably worse behind your back

Hope applerose has had a lovely day :) & with the weather too, & good news about the boiler :D Interesting to know it's absolutely fine for x% of people to trip in the street  hard luck if you are one of those, obviously!

Hi TK, a mixed day for you by the sound of it.. glad you had a break today, where did OH & son go to.. hope he was ok while they were out. :) Is it your nearby park where you go to with benches etc (I assume it is).

Hello to anyone else passing, hope tomorrow will be sunny for everyone. xx

    Hello café-dwellers :D

I see Elizabeth's week has been mixed......some help from OH and some hindrance  . I hope your son enjoyed his time with him and you your break.

Imagine sleeping on the bare mattress! Must be a gender issue :?

Barbara....you poor thing. I hope the ankle has eased today a bit. I go through phases like that when I can't lift my feet/legs up over the smallest things :(

Charley used to adore Lucy like that when they were about the same age as Baby and her sister. It was returned in copious quantities by Lucy who worshipped her :) Ah happy memories.

I hope Christine enjoyed the wedding and that she looked lovely and the shoes were comfy enough. I also hope the bride looked lovely

Glad that you can have the free boiler. Good to hear someone getting something they need :)

    Toady
    - I love seeing your photos. I hope soon t get back to posting mine too :)

I suppose its good that the neighbour is having the conifers trimmed......and better they clean up than leave you a mess for YOU to clean up, but really they ought to ask first :?

Joan Dachs Good to see you :) I hope you Sue and Puppy are doing ok?

Love to everyone else and sorry I am bound to have missed someone
