Thank you for your company and support this morning. Hope you all enjoyed the lunch at Maggie's Centre. Lots of healthy options and lovely company. But it hurt me poor old back. :(

Just got home, when the housing association rang. There had been a cancellation, so the plumber came out. Not a toilet problem, but sewage, so back on the phone to Severn Trent Water, and as we have a shared drainage system, no charge. They came straight out and lifted the lid of our house drain, and the ones either side. We now know who the culprit is, and why. They put a card through the door to say what items you can't put in the toilet. Common sense should have made them realise, they aren't a young couple after all. I can still smell sewage. :? :x

    More summer grub

    Rhubarb mess
Preheat oven to 180C/gas 4. Sprinkle a tin with caster sugar and cover base with slices of rhubarb, cut about 2 cm thick. Douse the rhubarb with orange juice. Transfer to oven and bake for 10 mins. As the rhubarb cools it will release juices and make a syrup. Beat a tub of cream until just whipped. Break up a packet of meringues into the cream, add a glug of fresh custard and the rhubarb and fold everything together.

    Chorizo with chickpeas
Put a large tin of unsalted chickpeas with their liquid in a medium saucepan. Add some sherry, along with olive oil, plenty of minced garlic, smoked paprika and chopped Spanish chorizo. Heat through.

    Mackerel salad
Tear smoked mackerel fillets into pieces. Mix with lettuce, green beans and warm new potatoes. Dress with olive oil and dijon mustard.

    Pasta with prosciutto
Put a few slices of chopped prosciutto in a pan with olive oil, a couple of cloves of crushed garlic and a bit of butter; after a minute, toss in about 100g breadcrumbs and red chilli flakes to taste. Serve with pasta and chopped parsley.

    Crab sandwich
Mix cooked crab meat with mayo, Dijon mustard, chives and tarragon. Serve in a sandwich.

    Panini
Cheese on toast with prosciutto, tomatoes and fresh thyme or basil.

    Meaty scrambled eggs
Slice or chop some salami or Polish sausage and warm in a little oil; stir in eggs and scramble. Serve with mustard and rye bread.

    Couscous with sardines
Soak 80g per person of couscous in boiling water, cover until tender; top with sardines, tomatoes, parsley, olive oil and black pepper.

    Stuffed tacos
Stir-fry 450g of minced meat or fish mixed with chopped onions, cumin or chilli powder. Pile into taco shells with tomato, lettuce, onion, coriander and sour cream.

    Chinese scrambled eggs
Cook minced garlic in peanut oil until blond; add chopped tomatoes, then, a minute later, beaten eggs, salt and pepper.Scramble with a little soy sauce.

    Grilled aubergine with cheese
Cut aubergine into half-inch slices. Grill with lots of olive oil, turning once, until tender and browned. Top with crumbled goat or feta cheese and grill for another 20 seconds.

    Quick tomato sauce
While some pasta cooks, combine 400g chopped tomatoes, a tsp or more minced garlic, olive oil and 20 to 30 basil leaves. Toss with pasta, salt, pepper and parmesan.

    Posh cheese on toast
Grill one side of a slice of baguette. Cut a log of goats' cheese with rind into rounds, cover the untoasted side with cheese, and grill until browned and bubbling.

Lobster with warm potato, shallot and tarragon salad

    Mixed scones

Oooh one for me please Kath - before Aidan accidentally eats them all. It could happen you know...by mistake.....

Well done for today I am very proud of you. When will you hear and how? so we can hold your hand again?

Eeeuuwww!!!! I don't want to imagine what might be down the loo

Aubergines for me with feta I think that's all as I am having a scone ;)

Hello Elizabeth!! I am so glad you've moved I was starting to worry.

Tomorrow is an important day then? Ok you can have a spare spoon of mine as you need to be awake. I hope it goes well for you.

I hope Daisycat does behave when we move...she'll stay in for a fair few days until I think she has assessed her surroundings from the windows. I have a feliway plug in in use already.

I hope you aren't too hot Barbara and well DONE for sleeping so well. You must be on the mend now :)

Lovely birdies - naughty pusskins!! I am sure given the age of the cats the birdies got away?

I think getting used to arthritis happens over time a bit at a time. You will get out again for walks I am sure just not quite yet (()))

Joan Lucy has always been able to walk in heels - now of course there is a marked 'antalgic gait' as the orthopaedic surgeon reports.

She can also put lipstick on without a mirror.

    I can do neither!!

Hope Aidan is ok and Christine too :?

    Love

Early evening hello to one and all............We are all a bit upside down today.........anyway.

Scones, they look wonderful, I need one, therefore I will have one, tomorrow morning, appointment at the garden centre. I promise I will share Kath. Glad we were all there on pocket duties. Hugs for your back (((((()))))) Drains, sewage, oh dear. good to hear that it has been sorted and people should realise what to put down and what NOT to put down. We have had the same problem round here. Neighbours moved in and had to get people out as their drains had been completely filled with nappies. :o  Sadly, common sense evades some people and once it has been flushed they think it is someone else's problem.
I will waft about with some Lavender and Neutra***, we don't want lingering whiffs.

At the opposite end, the menu is lovely. The posh cheese on toast I think, then all, sorry, one of the scones. :D

Hope things go ok at the hospital Elizabeth, we will dust off the cobwebs and pop into your pocket. The levels of cholesterol that are within normal ranges, vary so much. They keep changing the goalposts, depending on what is trending. I have hyperlipidaemia, a family trait, where you over produce cholesterol, no matter what diet really. I take statins' and have done for 20 years. We cannot absorb cholesterol from food as such, it is manufactured by the liver, at night time. So a scone won't hurt too much. Let us know what the levels are, not that I am being nosey.
Glad your garden is tidy, worth the pocket money without a doubt.

Barbara, we all understand the frustrations of not being able to do what we used to - running wards, making endless beds, walking miles up and down wards and corridors.......I try not to look back, we cannot change the order of time. We will have a buggy festival and race around on a big abandoned airfield. That would be fun. 8) 8)
Lovely to hear about the sparrows, they were declining at one point, but seem to be making a welcome comeback. I love to watch the birds here. Seeing two woodpeckers was a great highlight, as was seeing two big owls, sat on next doors handrail on their decking. Good that you had a long sleep, not good that it took a while to get moving - it's a pain and then some, sending lots of ((((((()))))) I walk round like Mrs Overall first off.:lol:

Toni, are you living with a few spoons and cups..... :!: :?: ......won't be long now. I know I could easily make a mistake and eat all the scones, anything is possible :lol:
I am sure Daisycat will be happy in her new home and, as all cats do, allow you to share it with her. The Feliway is really good, I am sure it calms humans too, so double bonus. Maybe we should all have one plugged in at the bedsides :D Puskins will soon get used to things, as you say, keeping her in for a while is a v good thing.

Towering heels, it is certainly an art, walking in them. Way to go Lucy. I cannot put lipstick on either, without a mirror :lol:

Joan, doofer, Christine, hope you are all ok.

Well, it has taken me three hours to write this, feedings cats, sorting out some drying. (the repair man came today, hoorah and the dryer messed about for him) It needs a new circuit board, but will work while they order it and then come fit it. He said new dryers are very sensitive, I said, yes, but not as sensitive as me when it won't do what I tell it to do. Anyway, it's covered on the appliance insurance, so they can get on with it.
Talked to the neighbours, it was cold when the sun went down, we had to come in, I was frozen bow legged.
Took cat out of dryer, who was not best pleased.
    Fussing in kitchen
    Had a shave.
OH has been busy in the sunshine doing the garden, we are looking posh and tidy.
    Right, supper time.
Everyone take lots of care XXXX Aidan

    More scones anyone XX

Mig, I can see I'll need to hide my froggies when they start hopping about. I thought toads were better anyway.

Aiden, thank you for protecting my tadpoles. My plant definitely needs a trim. In fact, it needs cutting in half. You really must stop tormenting us with those pictures of lovely cakes. We'll all get fat. I'm so glad the dryer messed about for the engineer. At least you know it wasn't you.

Joan, the weather here doesn't know whether to rain or be sunny, hot or cold. It's doing everything in one day. Hope your weather is behaving itself.

Barbara, thank you too for looking after my tadpoles. I'll have to hide them from Mig. Hope you got to sit in the garden with your neighbour yesterday. Glad you eventually had a good sleep. I take my time getting up. That's why I'm often late for work. Good job they don't mind. Baby sparrows already. I thought it was still a bit early for them to be trying to fly but I guess not.

Kath, surely if you have difficulties on the stairs, they should come straight away to fix the loo. Thank you for the recipes. Some interesting ones there. Sorry your back hurt but hopefully the results will be good. Just read your loo situation is sorted. We had to call someone out to flush our drains at least once a year so now they just come and do it before it gets blocked. We think it was nappies that were being flushed.

Hi Doofer/Numpty. Hope you had a nice cuppa and some cake.

Toni, I'm going to cut the plant in half when I get round to it. If I stretched it up, it would almost reach the ceiling. Aw Daisycat obviously would rather not go to the vet. She'll be worried he pulls out more teeth. 6 inch heels? No way could I stand up in them. I've never been good with heels. Only worn them in the past for weddings then had to take them off after the service. Dread to think what I'd look like if I put my lipstick on without a mirror. Hope this chap is good for Lucy.

Elizabeth, I do remember the triffids. Does your orchid still flower. I've got 4. Had them a few years but only 1 of them flowered for a second time. Glad you got a bit of gardening done before it rained and your son and daughter got the car washed and the lawn mowed, even if they did need paying.

Don't worry about the scones, I know what our Aiden is like with scones so there are plenty.

When I saw the contents of our drain, I thought about mig's jar but thought NO! That is just TOO much, even for mig. :?

Barbara, you worried me a bit
people just shove all sorts down the toilets without a thought..I quite fancy the meaty scrambled eggs
Not after fishing out of the drain I hope.

Joan, Hope you and Sue had a good day out with Dial a ride.

Chritine, not nappies this time I'm afraid, Lady things! :o

Doofer Nora, So glad you found your way back here.

:sland-shark: Watch it Aiden, the shark has his eye on your scones.

A rainy afternoon to one and all. Glad the scones are going down well.
No worries about protecting the taddies Christine. I am sure Mig will be more than happy with the toads, I am sure Toni was going to sort one out, if not, I can pop to the Witch Shop near Pendle and order one :?
Maybe a good idea to trim the plant, you don't want it going through the roof, or up onto the bed in the night :o

Joan, we have three cats, two Ragdolls and one Siamese. The Ragdolls are funny, they just fall over and roll around, then go all floppy when you pick them up, big babies they are. The Siamese is one on her own, totally daft as a brush, but clever with it. Hope you had a good trip into town.

I have seen quite a few of the new shaped wards, all in a semi circle. A bit of a change from the Nightingale wards that I was used to. Not that the garden is over posh, it just looks nice and tidy now that OH has been out and fussed. I opened the kitchen blinds this morning and thought, oh, we do look smart :D

Big ooops when the beads and everything went toppling. Good luck with the hoover and sorting. I have just sent some pots flying in the kitchen, none broken. OH said, "are you playing skittles in there". Cheek of it. I said yes, I got a STRIKE ! I said you had better wash the few pots, save me throwing them.......

Yes Kath, there is always a plentiful supply of scones. In fact we went for coffee this morning. I nearly had two, the first one was still lightly warm from baking and was just fabulous. I was within a gnats whisker of ordering a second one, but didn't. OH had a toasted T cake. It was very very quiet at the garden centre, we nearly had the tearoom all to ourselves. We will go for lunch on Friday, it will be busier then, with bank holiday and half term looming.

Glad nothing has ended up in the cupboard for Migs potion, from your drains experience.

Right, it is pill time, best be medicated. Dryer is misbehaving again, but new parts arriving on the 7th, they just phoned. Hoorah.
Everyone take care, love to all, doofer, Elizabeth (hope all was ok at the hospital).

Kath we had drain trouble too. A neighbour came round and said she had rats coming up through her toilet pain ad sewage in the garden. I'm intrigued as to how you know who the guilty party is.

Kath well spotted with the meaty scrambled egg comment-it made me laugh.

Toni how can she put on her lipstick without a mirror? I can manage contact lenses but not lipstick (or any make up when you come to think about it).

Hope your trip into town was nice Joan.

The hospital appointment was fine and I was fussing over nothing really as there were no horrible surprises . In fact my bloods look so good she would not give me a steroid injection! Now I find that odd because my bones are aching badly so no idea why my bloods were so good.

However my vit D levels are very low and probably why I'm always so tired and my hip is terrible enough to make up for the improvement I suppose. Plus the abnormal cholesterol....I've no idea what the levels are yet Aidan but I've got to see GP 7th June ad ask about everything. I've written it all done....hip, vit D, cholesterol and increase mtx- get it all over with in one visit.

Hello Applerose. Yes my orchid keeps flowering and has done for about 4 years. It just seems to keep blooming. No idea why as I don't fuss over it.

Tad chilly here tonight. So I've taken my mtx, first one for about 4 years, and a fist full of painkillers and we'll see how I get on as I'm not able to put any weight on my left leg and can't sleep very well either.

So I'm going back into the corner of the room to catch up on my sleep. zzzzzzz

    Hi Elizabeth :)

    Ooops!! Shhh!!! She's asleep already.

Good to hear the apt was ok in the end not so good she didn't get her injection. I hope the vit D levels are what is making you feel so rough and you'll feel better soon.

I hope the cholesterol levels are easily sorted too :?

I have no idea how Lucy is so good with make-up - she certainly doesn't get it from me!! How is your Lucy doing at school?

I did sort Mig out a lovely toad Aidan(don't worry it's only his slime she needs and he doesn't mind so long as there's a plentiful supply of flies and there always are in the cupboard

Maybe see if you can get a lady toad then we can breed her a plentiful supply??

Lovely to have a tidy garden isn't it?

Mine isn't great this year so far....I can't wait to try the new one :) Talking of which no news today and even the 1st is looking unlikely now :(

Daisycat went for her check-up today - I did the 'rolled up cat in a bath towel' ;)

Unfortunately the vet is worried she has got the feline stomatitis as there is already inflammation present. She has logic enzyme toothpaste to try (a blob on her paw is enough as it only has to enter her mouth to be effective :) )and some royal canin dental crunchy food.

    Another check-up in 6 weeks.

Lady things Kath?! Surely not even my kids know not to do that

I laughed at your quote of Barbara's!! Scrambled egg in the loo!! Daisycat likes to watch the water flush in the loo. Bless her :)

Oh Barbara! You poor thing!! Beads everywhere! You must have been furious with yourself ::)

Lucy is just a super-talented girlie-girl I think she really doesn't get it from me!!

Daisycat will love it at the new place I'm sure of it only I might get lots of mice :?

No idea of the date I even think the 1st is being optimistic :(

Ah Joan bless you Lucy gets her determination from me yes, but she's much better looking!

Oh yes Christine she went on her date today with that lad and he uses a crutch. She doesn't know exactly what is wrong, but he's had lots of hip surgery so they are perfect for each other :) He paid they went to the pitcures :) He works for an accountant too :)

I think the plant probably needs the Chelsea chop :)

Daisycat was caught fair and square by me today bless her!

Any scones left? I rather fancy one :)

Has Doofer aka Numptynora been in?

    Love

I will tiptoe past Elizabeth, still resting after the hospital trip, which, I am glad to hear was ok, with fairly good results. Sorry the bones are hurting though, hugs and lavender pats to help. Hope the pain meds and Mtx help and you can get some sleep.

I am sure the GP will sort out the vit D and the cholesterol levels. Good to take a list, then you can write things down.

I will put some more logs on the fire and Cuddles might well curl up on your lap. (fire guard in situ - health and safety) :D

I see the sharks have been after the scones, thank you for the warning Kath. I read somewhere that you have to make a lot of noise and hit them on the nose  :splash: Not that I would like to be in the water with a great white, thinking I will bang its nose when it comes at you. :swim-shark:

I will have a look for a lady toad Toni. I am sure I can seek one out.
No, we are all set with the bus for the 1st June. Will have to put it on standby.......what a pain for you.
Well done for gathering puskins and wrapping her in a towel. Let's hope the vets prescription will help matters. Bless her little paws.

Glad Lucy's date went well. Wonder what her beaux has had done to his hip.

There are always scones, a constant supply of freshly baked, fluffy middled, lashings of butter................then I am a little biased. My weakness.

Hope everyone else is ok, leaving hugs, take care all, off to faff about in the medicine basket, it's that time again..................

Just popping in as I usually do from time to time.. sorry..
and it would be when the topic of drains is on the list with me feeling somewhat nauseous after taking my meds one being Meptazinol which has that side affect.. .. Moving on..

I refused to take statins because they made my aches and pains so much worse but do take an aspirin every day instead.. I have enough pain to cope with and certainly don't need anything to increase it. My last check I was 4.7 although my doctor at the time tried to tell me it was 7.4! (long story!)

Not very good at mentioning everyone but in future I will try to do better.
Hope you all have a very good day.. :D

AAAh, just pulled the covers over Elizabeth. Don't want her to get chilly. I'll leave her a note explaining how we knew who the culprit was. When they lifted drain lids up, you could see the outlet to our loo and one from next door.Guess where all the lady things were coming from. Next door. :o

charrisse, sorry. I'll put a drain warning up next time. :? I also refused to take statins because of the list of side effects. Already have all those thanks.

Oh Barbara, I sometimes get very weepy when I think how i was this time last year. I blame the morphine.

Afternoon to one and all, Joan Barbara Christine Elizabeth Charrisse (nice to meet you ) Mig Doofer Kath Toni....who did I miss

Joan, I hope you are ok, resting after going out yesterday?

I have no idea about female toads, I think I would have to Google it, goodness knows what it will come up with. I can see some of them carrying eggs on their backs. I might get one of them and pop it into the cupboard for Mig. They live in the Amazon, so the order might take a while...........
The pus cats sure know when they are on to a good thing :) Bless

Glad you enjoyed your prepared meal, always tastes better when someone else caters. Well, usually.

Sorry you popped into the Cafe and found drains where on topic Charrisse, rats and nasties and lady things, it has all been going on. Sorted now and smelling of french lavender. 4.7 is normal for total cholesterol levels, well, it is in my book.

I don't have a choice, well, I guess I do, but the Drs all say that the benefits of me taking Statins, outweighs the side effects, of which there are many, not least the muscle and joint pain. My Cardiologist is the main one who says stick with them. So I have done, for 20 years now. I am one of his Chronics, I have known him so long and my GP said I am on his Chronic list   He was chuckling at the time, but I know he meant it. :?

Hope your feeling nauseous goes away, it is horrid to feel like that.

I am glad you put the covers on Elizabeth, I made sure she had a few cups of T and a scone or two, for sustenance. Toni had the loo's sparkling last week, for as and when needed. No blocked drains in here.
I think the whole arthur thing completely changes your mood sometimes, a range of emotions all within a short space of time, from upset to angry, laughing to crying, it's a damned roller coaster. Leaving Hugs.

Hope everyone else is ok, Toni, Doofer, Christine, everyone take care, it is coming up to pill time and I am now chair shaped. Better move XXX Aidan

All's forgiven Bubbles..Glad the drains are smelling much better now.
4.7 is normal in my book too but my doc on one of his odd times insisted it was 7.4 until I asked for a copy of the test results! He also insisted that I had a heart attack which I didn't as the specialist at the hospital had taken great trouble to explain that my collapse was due to arrhythmia and hence they gave me a pacemaker.

Question for those that are interested.. Where does it show any trials that have been done on statins?

I do hope Elizabeth has benefitted from the tea and scones and the attention she has received.. seems like you're quite a caring lot.. :D

Take care all and don't forget your meds whatever you do!
All the world is mad except thee and me and even thee's a little odd!

Ah Joan! That is the theory then! Whatever I will try it I know Daisycat loves butter!

Have a good weekend yourself :) I think arthritis will only get better if surgery can be done and then only a bit probably???

Hi Barbara Yes fingers crossed we will at least have a plan for Lucy :)

Enjoy your lunch out - I hope they have really nice cakes there today :)

Do you think the solicitors will dare ask for feedback?

Afternoon Barbara Joan Toni Charrisse Mig Doofer Elizabeth Christine Kath and all
I will have to seek out about the new Statins Barbara, see what they are about and depending how new and expensive they are, i might ask my Cardio Boss if he can gently persuade my GP to prescribe them. s030.gif

It would be nice to have some that don't add insult to injury
I think summer is here now, well, it is in my world s012.gif

Hope you had a good time in town and enjoyed lunch and cakes, well, it is rude not to eat them when they are there.

Charrisse I will look up about the trials done on Statins, I am sure I have read some, a long time ago and certainly muscle pain is one of the main side effects, so there must have been long studies done on them by now.

We are a caring group, without a doubt. People here have been supportive to me at difficult times and shared happy times too. I hope you find the cafe and the rest of the forum helpful and fun too.

You keep taking those cholesterol reducing yoghurt's Toni, they do help people, well, those who are not predisposed or have a family history. I imagine you are almost at tethers end with moving and dates changing etc. All very frustrating. We can come on pocket duties for Lucy's appointments, will pack some sandwiches. Feedback, for the Solicitors, that would be "interesting" lol

Whatever is most comfortable Joan, without a doubt. If I sit with my feet up I cannot move after a very short time  Way back in time, the physio said, "no sitting with your feet up" not with damage to your lower back" ok, I won't, I will go to bed instead :D

In laws are back tomorrow. We went for lunch at the garden centre, which was v nice, I had a vegetarian breakfast and then a scone, seeing as they were there, looking at me. Plenty Coffee too, to help the pain killers do their thing. Sat for too long really and was like Mrs Overall again when I finally got up. Anyway, it was lovely, people watching, love it. The woman at the next table had SO much to say for herself, like I am here, can everyone hear me. Yes love, hush now. Oh, going so soon, how sad.............. :D

Hi to Kath, Mig Ron Elizabeth ( I have changed your position and moved you into a different chair. Tea on the side, with cakes ).

best sort some washing and have yet more issues with the dryer :x roll on the new parts arriving.

    Take care XXXX Aidan

Barbara, what a shame you dropped all your beads. Hope you managed to hoover them all up.

Elizabeth, hope the mxt works for you. My bloods have been ok for a while now. Makes me wonder if there is anything wrong with me and I'm just imagining the pain and fatigue.

Toni, poor Daisycat. I do hope the toothpaste works for her. I'm sure she'll enjoy chasing the extra mice, even if you don't. I think it's about time they sorted out your moving date. it's awful hanging around like that. Great news that you have Lucy's appointments sorted.

Aiden, my daughter and her husband have been swimming with sharks quite a few times. I've seen video of my daughter alongside a huuuuge one. Scares me but they love it.

Charisse, don't worry about mentioning everyone. We don't always do it especially if there's a lot to read. Maybe your doctor had his glasses on back to front.

Kath I've been a bit chilly too. Had the heating on for a bit last night.

Joan, I don't blame you keeping your thermals on. it hasn't really warmed up enough yet. Hopefully it will soon.

Don't know if I mentioned it but I've been deaf in my left ear for 3 months now and last weekend in both ears. Went to see the nurse practitioner after 3 weeks. She told me the oil wasn't working so to use ear drops. Didn't work. A couple of days ago, I saw a different nurse practitioner. She said they don't tell people to use the drops now so to go back to the oil. Problem is my ear canal is so narrow, she doesn't think the oil is getting in. They won't syringe them unless I wear a hearing aid or have had an ear operation.
