Aw thank you all for your kind comments :)

Lucy is under the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Brum. The hip man deals with younger patients. He has done many of these so hopefully knows exactly what he's doing :)

The shoulder man is a professor and we haven't met him yet. We see him a week today. Hopefully he will agree with the hip man. Both joints are similar aren't they?

Yes Barbara I think it means joint replacement? Ah well :?

I think it's lovely your niece wanting to help her favourite Aunty!!

Kath - you have every right to 'carp on' not that you do though. Cellulitis is scary and dangerous I hope they've given you a hefty does of the antib's?

Have you heard re your mammogram yet? I have been thinking about it.

Christine Well done for doing the oven!! Wow!! Extremely virtuous!!

I bet the hospice were very pleased with your donation :) I bet the seedlings are happy that they have room to grow now too ;)

I agree with you about facebook  too much rubbish on there, but these days you sort of have to go on there :?

I put our heating on for an hour last night too and this morning.

Onwards and upwards as they say ;)

Don't know whether I've done right or not. I've ordered myself a pair of crutches, to see if it makes walking easier. Any tips? I'll let you know how I get on with them.

I also bought some prezzies for Emily and Alex. Vintage stuff for Emily of course. A sewing kit, scissors and a pin cushion for Alex.

indeed I will Toni, high time I was back in the cafe.

After a week of family visiting, we are all back to normal, whatever that is. I will have a little read and catch up.

Kath, you have cellulitis, oh dear, lots of antibiotics should do the trick. You go ahead and use crutches, tips, well, I have found the Cooper ones, with the shaped handles, an absolute hand and wrist save.

    https://www.completecareshop.co.uk/mobility-aids/elbow-crutches/coopers-adjustable-elbow-crutches-with-comfy-handle-view-large?gclid=CjwKEAjwsr-6BRCLvrj785rbhTsSJADjUxakQUxwrrxxILplmGsXs6S0adHvGCgLryOWFo_9lbyDRxoCXEDw_wcB

I got mine from the physio department. The standard handles were not doing carpel tunnel any good at all.

Toni that is a difficult pill for Lucy and you all to swallow, having the joints replaced. Sending lots of hugs. The Professor and the Consultant do know their jobs, down to a fine art. That doesn't make the surgery any less worrying for you and Lucy.

Flip Flap Flop, I will have to read up on that one.........LOL

Wild garlic, oh we have woods full of it, you can smell it so strongly in the evening. Apparently, the Roman soldiers used to use it on their feet, as an antiseptic, when they were marching. I am sure you can use it in cooking, but never fancied it myself. No more Tea throwing Christine :o Oops. Don't worry, I have regular oopses, is that a word?

I am getting lost in my reading back. I blame the pills.

We have had a good week, met up with family on Tues and Thursday, lovely lunches, lovely cakes. This was one heck of a chocolate muffin

    20160531_173327_zpsecuw5q1p.jpg

just a fabulous little bistro, in an old Rectory, on top of the moors, near to us, just amazing. Truly blessed.

Off to Mark's today, Friday, to stock up on some proper food like cheesecake and butter and scones............:lol: A nice light lunch in Ner***, then home. Will leave early as town will be so busy, market day on a Friday, plus the kiddies are still off.........heaving it will be.

Right. I will stop rambling. Hugs and everyone take lots of care. XXXX Aidan

Welcome back Aiden. Glad to hear the family visit was a success, and my word, that is one gorgeous cakes. Big slurps and lots of lick smacking and dribbling at my house. :hammock:

I'm on my iPad, so it's difficult to see the replies. So apologies if I've missed any important news.

My crutches arrived this morning, Coopers. Got them adjusted, but using them really does hurt my back. The idea of using them was to try and stand up straight. But with the sciatica, it sends massive electric shocks all the way down to my toes. anti biopics appear to be working. I just hope they gave me enough. 28 days supply at 4 a day. They will finish on Monday. :?

Still cold here, but it's supposed to warm up on Sunday.

Hello to everyone I've not mentioned. Xxx

    Oh Dear Kath...

That's not good. Someone I met off this forum (Roses1) used to have some that you almost leaned on, on your forearms? I think you ought to ask for an assessment of your mobility. Start with physio or OT and see what they suggest. You can't spend out on anything else till you know what isn't going to hurt you can you?

If your legs aren't 100% better by Monday I would ring for more antib's too.... ((()))

Joan absolutely Lucy will be just fine bless her :) I hope you have a lovely day like us? The sun is shining here but it's not too hot either - perfect :) :hammock:

A very warm, s012.gif late evening to all, Joan Barbara Kath Toni Christine Elizabeth Mig
Toni, the muffin was amazing - but it wasn't mine, it was my B In Law and Niece, they both had one. I am not a lover of strawberries, but I saw these arrive and said "don't touch them, I want a picture for the cafe" - bless, they don't understand lol. I had a huge home made scone, with lashings of butter, (for extra calcium).

We will have to be on pocket duties next Wed, for Lucy's appointment, count me in.

Any news from the Solicitors? It must be driving you batty, waiting for a date. r010.gif

Joan, we are blessed with so many wonderful places to have gorgeous cakes and treats, with it being a tourist area, there are places a plenty. hope you are ok and enjoying some sunshine.

I was ok with the weather, but, as always, it gets humid at night and that just floors me. Getting hotter over the coming days. I am like you Barbara, the warmer it gets, the more my joints shout. My GP always assumes that the warmer weather eases things, he asks me every time and he always gets a loud "NO", as I sit there melting. We are having very warm weather for up ere in the north.

Kath I am glad that your crutches arrived, but they seem to be causing problems already. I know they can take some getting used to, but do get a check up, referral, to make sure they are the right ones. I know the ones that Toni means, people are almost doubled over with them. They used to frighten me, thinking they would keel over. I find it hard to stand up straight, even with my crutches, worse still if I have sat for a while. I am rambling. I hope the cellulitis is improving. Any worries, heat, increased redness, pain - back to the GP. Hark at Matron, sorry.

Right, I am sweltering, so I will have to go for a cool wash. Potter a while and stand in front of the fans, (three going at the moment).
Hi and hugs to one and all and anyone I will have forgotten. Take care, XXXX Aidan

Hi to all, thought I would write while there is a breeze and the sun is not blazing down - yet.
Glad the warmer weather helps your pains Joan. Dr told me my bodies thermostat had given up the ghost, cannot remember why, it is years ago. From October to April I freeze and May to end of September I am a melting moment.
The AC unit is coming out later, not having another evening with one hot flush after another.

In laws popping in soon for a coffee and a scone. OH, I forgot to say, went to Ner*** yesterday, very nice, not as busy as we thought, even though town was thronging. Lovely veggie panini, then thoughts turned to cake. A scone. Sorry, no scones  :o I had to force myself, to have a triple chocolate cheesecake - It was quite a struggle. :D:D #

OK, I am starting to get a bit hot, so time for a shower...........Everyone have a nice week end and keep cool those who like cool, enjoy the sun, those who love being hot.....XXX Aidan

Kath, I've never had to use crutches but if it helps, then you have definitely done the right thing. Do you think they might need readjusting again? Hope things have improved before your antibios run out.

Aiden, good to see you. Glad you've had a lovely time with your family. Yes, you can smell the garlic from quite a distance. I think oopses is in our dictionary as they do happen a lot. That muffin looks yummy. I find my joints are better in the warm weather but I can hardly move with fatigue. I have more energy in the winter but much more pain. Can't win, can we?

Toni, hope you get some news from the solicitor and things go well with Lucy's appointment on Wednesday. I'll be in your pockets along with the others.

Barbara, you be careful on that toilet. We don't want you falling in. I've told people about the things we get up to in here and they look at me as if I'm crazy. I'm glad you managed the cheesecake. Terrible when you struggle with cakes.

Joan, I'm glad the warm weather helps you.

Could you all send a little sun and warmth up here please? We have had grey skies and rain all week. And I've either needed the heating on for half an hour in the evenings or I've sat with a fleece throw over me. I'm hoping to at least get in to the garden for a while at some point over the weekend. Went to visit my dad yesterday. I have it written in my diary that it is Fathers Day this Sunday so I took a card for my dad just in case I don't get there on Sunday. Doh, silly me. It's not for another 2 weeks yet. I finished my Mindfulness course last week and got an email today to say I've passed and I've got my diploma. :D

Hi to all, hot as it is - finally the AC unit is out of the wardrobe and running at full speed, cooling us down as fast as it possible can.

Kath it is difficult to force a stance that causes pain, the more pain, the more we guard against it, tensing up in other areas, which, in turn, alters the way we stand, sit, walk etc. As long as the handles of the crutches are set to just below waist height, they should be ok. Too high and it pulls your back, too low and it hurts your back, neck etc.
I know other people only mean well and try and encourage us to stand up straight, walk without crutches, not holding on to the furniture. All well and good, but, be it OA or RA we are all here for a reason in the cafe and on the forum, because we have a problem, that to a greater or lesser degree, affects our lives, on a daily and nightly basis. We put up with, tolerate, work our way through, hurt our way through, paint on a smile and take each day as it comes.
We have better days, we have terrible days, we are hit with fatigue that is almost indescribable at times. We can only do what we can do, on any given day, small steps, slightly bigger steps.

Sorry Kath, that's not a lecture to your OH. I blame the heat for getting me on my soap box. Hope the cellulitis is improving.

No Christine, we cannot win, it just doesn't happen  Well done on getting your diploma, I will send lots of sun and warmth, as a treat. :sunny: I think we need a large cake, to celebrate. :D :splash: 20160517_112109_zpsqtek1ujd.jpg

We will have a nice choice now.

Barbara, what are you doing falling down the toilet, I didn't know there was a mishap occurring :o

Welcome back Elizabeth, hope you had a lovely week. you can sit with us all and take a break, eat cake and drink lots of home made iced lemonade, or T. You will be tired after your holidays and Christine is super tired too, I am pooped with the heat, so we can all sit on a huge garden swing and take a nap.

Toni, Mig, Rose and anybody I have missed. Take care, I am going to stand in front of the AC and chill myself silly. 8) XXX Aidan

    Morning everyone

Sorry I was AWOL yesterday

Really lovely to see Elizabeth and hear you've had a lovely holiday - well-dererved :)

    Oh Aidan Bubbles those cakes!

Good advice about Kath's crutches there - I never thought the height could be the cause

Wise words too about our health issues each of us can do what we can do some days more some days less, but our best at all times.

I wish we'd hurry up and move - Lucy needs her A/C!

Thanks you all for your offer of pocket duties for Lucy for Wednesday. You know it actually made me well-up

Christine - I spoke to the solicitor on Friday - well another one as she is away on holiday

    Typical!

How did you find your mindfulness course then? I did a one day retreat on the same subject. Very useful I found it but quite hard to do in real-life. Wish I had known about it when I was sat by Lucy's hospital bed soooo anxious. Can I come to you for advice now?

No bad thing you saw your Dad anyway bless him. Yes two weeks time :)

Kath - I think you shouldn't go mad like OH thinks I know I wouldn't. I would do a teeny bit more each day if I could. No need to walk in my pocket at all you can rest in there it's comfy :)

Joan bless you I am glad the warm weather helps you joints :)

Barbara - it's a bit too warm for me too I am always at my worst this time of year although I think the OA type joints prefer warmth.

I had to show Paul the 'café' years ago because he though I'd lost it completely!!

Did you fall done the loo :?

Today Paul and I are off to Malvern - not sure whether Lucy would like a ride or not......to pick up a scooter (2nd hand ebay) for MIL's birthday.

She has got very isolated since she came home form hospital. Her 2nd hip needs doing, but with the type 1 diabetes and dialysis they can't risk op. She doesn't mind, but she used to walk up the town and have a natter to people.

She drives into town (Shipston upon Stour?) sometimes, but it's the human contact she needs....she thinks they're a waste of money. I hope she can manage it. There's gravel on her drive.

    We shall see eh?

    Love to you all
