You have a good week end too Joan. Hope everyone else is managing to enjoy, and or avoid the sunshine  I am with you on the summer Barbara, we don't like it too warm.

I looked up the new anti cholesterol drug, Repatha. Seems that you can get it on the NHS, and I seem to meet the criteria, so I think I will be asking either my Cardio boss or my GP. The cost is nearly £5000 a year, per patient. so I don't hold great hope, but, you don't ask, you don't get.

Yes, the scones were talking to me, from under their dome. There are always spare ones for the cafe. Endless supplies, although quite a few have gone on the plane charter, which is turning out to be quite dramatic lol

Hope they can do something with your ear Christine, it is terrible, my late Mum was stone deaf in one ear and had to wear a very strong hearing aid in the other. I am sure they could refer you to ENT, to let them see if they can syringe and or offer a solution.

Kath, hope you are ok, Toni, you as well hun, sat with all those boxes and no date set. I would be on the ceiling. Is Lucy on a night out with her new gentleman friend?

Hugs and take cares, to one and all. Time for T and a shortbread or three. Then a nap. XXX Aidan

Barbara, I think I've got full hearing in my right ear now so I can turn the tv down a bit. I usually have it on 8, 10 is too loud but I've had it on 20 and it still sounded muffled. I'm back down to 11 now. Hope the oil works for your OH. How long has he been using it?

Joan, I've got hearing back in one ear now so better than I was. So far I am having a good weekend. Hope you are too.

Aiden, I set off this morning wearing a jumper and jacket but was melting on the way home. Couldn't take them off because that meant carrying them and I had enough to carry. You definitely should ask about the Repatha. The worst is they say no. I will be kicking up if things don't improve in my left ear. I'm ok now in my right.

Didn't mention yesterday that I saw the vampires yesterday and they took a whole armful. 49 donations so far. I was hoping to make it 50 in August but they're not coming back till October and it's too dark in the late afternoon for me to walk back.

Went in to town to the Farmers market today for pies, which I got (had one for tea and it was delicious) and ginger wine but they hadn't made any. I'd been looking for a glass chopping board for around £1 and found 4 for £1.25. Bargain. Also got a skirt, a top and 2 light jumpers. Errrm, wasn't supposed to buy clothes. :? And I got an edging hoe thingy to cut my lawn edges back.

Got back, quickly made some scrambled eggs then sat at the back bedroom window and watched a typhoon doing loop the loops and twirls in the sky over the airport, which I could see properly if it wasn't for the trees. A short while later the Red Arrows did a display. That was brilliant as usual. A while after that, there were what looked like spitfires doing dives and looping about. And I made a chocolate cake. Yum. I'll leave the rest for you all to share.

I seem to remember posting, but can't find it. :o Oh well, it happens from time to time. Apart from being exhausted (morphine?) Just the usual aches and pains, so I'm mostly OK. Yesterday I managed to get down on the floor, and spread bad leg out and press down on my knee. Avert your eyes, it's not a pretty sight and I regretted it later.

Barbara we've been having too many treats just lately. Egg custards, cream caramels, bars of caramac, anything chocoate. Dread to think what I weigh. :?

Christine, I'm glad your ears seem to be working again.

Toni, glad to hear that Lucy's appointments are gradually appearing on the horizon.

Charrisse, yes, the cafe dwellers are a lovely caring lot. What with all the delicious calorie free food, beds in the cafe and Aiden (our matron) dispensing suitable meds when needed. We are caring and sharing.

Joan, I'm getting there with my ears so improving. Hope you have had a good weekend and managed to get out.

Barbara, I was talking to a friend the other day. We were both saying we deserve a treat now and then. Only thing is now and again was usually every day. We must be lucky. We have a Farmers market once a month in our town and another one in the next big town once a month except in the winter. The slide has lasted well. Hope Niamh has fun. Your neighbours obviously think of you if they disturb you. That's good.

Kath, I'm glad you aren't too bad at the moment. You sounded very down on FB. What lovely flowers. They certainly brighten the café up.

Mig, I think I've seen Caramac somewhere. One of my favourites.

Our next door neighbours had a hot tub buzzing 24/7 all through last summer and this year they've had a blow up bouncy castle up all over the weekend last weekend and this weekend. The noise is horrendous with the blower going the whole time. Hope it's not going to be up all over the summer.

Hi to all, Joan Barbara Kath Elizabeth Toni Mig Charrisse

A warm day today, borderline glowing, but managed to keep just below boiling point.

Joan, the dryer is still a law unto itself. All singing all dancing sensor this and sensor that, like heck it is, it is a battle royal. Hopefully, all will be fixed next week, when it has its brain replaced. How hand would that be - me first. :?

Christine its good that your hearing is improved for you. Let's hope it continues. You have had an exciting day with the air display, shopping, bargains, clothes, pies (most important) :D I will be hunting down the chocolate cake, thank you for sharing. I have just read about the bouncy castle and the blower going all the time - no consideration some folks. I would take a big pin or knitting needle :lol:

Nothing wrong with a fruit flan Barbara, treats are very important, especially cake ones. It is good for you, with fruit in, a bit like scones, they are full of goodness. Hope you had a good visit with Niamh and that the slide came into good use again.
At least the neighbours cooked some things for you, after you had been smoked out

Kath I hope you are in less pain, I understand the feeling of exhaustion, it all seems to roll into one, with arthur and the pain dullers. I bet you regretted getting on the floor. I don't think I would get up without two strong men and a winch. See, treats, a bit of what you fancy does you no harm, therefore quite a lot of what you fancy does you the world of good :D:D Thank you for your kind words about us all. We all help each other in many ways, no matter how small.

The one thing I could never take to was caramac, eew, don't know why, it just used to half choke me.

Toni, hope you are ok, enjoying the week end.

We had coffee and scones this morning, at the garden centre, we went early ish, just after 10, it was already quite busy. Most people were sat outside, so that suited us, it was nice and quiet indoors. Sit in the sun, with wasps, no thanks. The scone was delicious, as always, freshly baked every morning, to a secret recipe. One day I will have two, I just won't be able to stop myself.
We have family up this week, staying in a big holiday van, on a nice country park not far from us. So apologies if I am not about as often.
Staying at home tomorrow, Bank Holiday.

Everyone take care, enjoy the fine weather, stay in the shade, those of us who are wrinkle phobic (myself included) lol. XXX Aidan

    Hello everyone :)

Sorry to have been AWOL, but internet explorer has been playing me up a bit - hopefully it will let me post this ::)

Aidan - have two scones go on, you know you want one, go on, go on

Everywhere has been very busy over here not that I have noticed too much...I pottered in the garden yesterday can't do any today though :( Silly me ;) :deckchair: Will sit on my backside instead.

How lovely family visiting! You enjoy them and of course you are utterly forgiven if you can't get on as much :)

You can get caramac in Tesco Mig!! they were on offer 3 for something!! Probably not now and probably for the best they aren't eh
Kath - Oh they ARE!! I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that - I can eat all 3

Well done for stretching that knee flat very good even if it is sore you were very brave.

Christine I very much hope your neighbours were just celebrating a birthday or something. I hate those stupid trampolines they all have too - they can see in your garden!! Hehehe!

Still I can't moan I had Charley's OH's nephew here yesterday and we were all outside shrieking and laughing with him he is 14 months and gorgeous :)

How are the taddies coming along?

    f080.gif

I told you I'd regret my acrobatics. I was fine yesterday afternoon, but today the pain is back in my groin with pins and needles all down my leg. :(

Joan, I've tried both floor and bed. I just don't lie on my back when on the floor, but I can when on the bed.

I will have to stop visiting FB first thing in the morning. That's when I feel worst. :?

    Tuna wraps
Make flatbread wraps with tuna, warm white beans, a drizzle of olive oil and lettuce and tomato.

    The New York supper
Bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Serve with tomatoes, watercress or rocket, and sliced red onion or shallot.

    Bacon bagels
Grill bacon until crisp. Toast 2 bagels, butter, then slather with cream cheese and lots of black pepper, and top with the bacon.

    Open chicken sandwiches
Dip thinly sliced chicken breasts in flour; cook for 2 minutes each side in hot olive oil. Place on bread with lettuce, tomato and mayo.

    Chard on toast
Sweat some chard leaves with butter and garlic. Poach two eggs. Serve with the pan juices on buttered, toasted sourdough.

    Upscale tuna salad
Mix good tinned tuna (packed in olive oil), capers, dill or parsley, lemon juice but no mayo.

    Sausage and pepper sandwiches
Cut Italian sausage into chunks and brown in a little olive oil; chop onions and peppers and add them to the pan. Cook until sausage is browned and peppers and onions tender. Serve in sandwiches.

    Egg in a hole, glorified
Tear a hole in a piece of bread and fry in butter. Crack an egg into the hole and allow to cook. Deglaze pan with a little sherry vinegar mixed with water, and more butter; pour over the egg.

    New Joe's Special
Brown minced meat with crushed garlic and chopped onion. When almost cooked, add chopped spinach and stir until wilted. At the last minute, stir in 2 eggs, grated parmesan, salt and pepper.

    Fig and prosciutto salad
Chop prosciutto and crisp it in a pan with olive oil; add chopped figs. Serve over greens dressed with oil and vinegar topped with crumbled blue cheese.

    Cobb-ish salad
Chop bacon and begin to brown; cut boneless chicken into strips and cook with the bacon. Toss romaine, watercress or rocket with chopped tomatoes, avocado, onion and crumbled blue cheese. Add meat. Dress with oil and vinegar.

    Pesto with anything
Put about 40g basil leaves, a garlic clove, salt, pepper and olive oil as necessary in a blender (pinenuts, walnuts, parmesan are optional). Serve with pasta or on grilled fish or meat.

e188.gif Aiden busy making more scones. bless him.

Aiden, so your drier is getting a new brain? I'd like one too. I'll get in the queue behind you. I have been working out how to sneak in next door with a sharp pointy thing. Talking of cake being good for you if it has fruit in - my chocolate cake didn't have any so I covered it in cherry compote - problem solved. Have a great time this week with your family. Don't worry about us. We'll still be here when you come back in.

Toni, hope you managed to sit in the garden for a while today after being so busy. I agree it's probably a good thing that Caramac isn't on offer. I always wish shops wouldn't put chocolate, ice cream and other goodies on offer. I can't help myself when they do. I don't think there was a party next door. There was only the 5 year old playing on it most of the time and her birthday is just before Xmas. The bouncy castle was till up at 9pm last night but it looks as if it has gone now. Hopefully that's the last of it. I don't mind the kids shouting and laughing. It was the noise from the blower. Sounded like a very loud electric lawn mower. The taddies know when I'm around the pond. There are splashes all over and I see a flash of them as they dive for cover. I did see a couple coming up for air when I stood still. Getting big but still no sign of legs.

Joan, sorry your arm is itchy with the patches. Hope it isn't too bad.

Barbara, it used to be very quiet here. The neighbours on one side seem to make noise all the time. There are a few young kids out the back of me but they are just playing. it's good to hear them laugh. Don't hear much else. I keep thinking about getting a sun brolley but don't know where I'd put it.

Kath, I'm sorry you are in so much pain again and with pins and needles too. Hope it eases soon. Joe's special sounds good. I make my own pesto, often with wild garlic which I collect from a huge patch growing in a wood about a 15 minute walk from where I live. I use lots of leaves and some flowers so don't need the basil. I leave the bulbs in the soil though so they will still be there the next year. I see Aiden is very busy up to his elbows in dough.

I've now got a porch stuffed full with bags of clothes and ornament and books. The hospice charity are coming for them on Wednesday.

No house-move date yet Barbara, but saw othopod re hip for Lucy today.

She has had all her pre-ops done ready for the percutaneous core decompression in the summer hols. So ready to go :)

    That was the good news.....

The bad news is he had access to her shoulder MRI and Xray. the humerous (sp) bone (looks like hip bone) has collapsed. he showed us on the images. It's not a great sight and a wonder she has been able to do anyone's hair! :(

This means it will need some sort of arthroplasty he thinks. We will know more when we see The professor regarding her hip next Wednesday.

    I hope everyone is well

Oh Joan, you do cheer me up. Flip, Flap and Flop. :D

I spent most of yesterday at the hospital. I have cellulitis, so called the doctor. They sent an Advanced nurse practitioner who wanted to rule out DVT. Confirmed it wasn't, but was Cellulitis, so sent me home with Flucloxicillin. I did get tired and stressed, BP went sky high. :x But I did get food, and transport. The staff were lovely.

Toni, poor Lucy. Here I am carping on about my problems and brave Lucy has much worse. :?

I must live in the wrong place, nothing but rain and very cold wind.

Joan, Facebook can be a good thing for keeping up with people but there is such a lot of rubbish on there to sift through so I don't blame you for not going on there. Flip, Flap and Flop. Ha ha, I bet the three of you got up to mischief.

Barbara, the wild garlic grows in the woods near me and in the woods in the big park in the next town. I don't know of anywhere else and wonder how it actually got there. Glad you've got some good weather but hope it's not too hot for you. It's grey, wet and freezing here. I had the heating on yesterday and this morning for a while. It's lovely to hear that your niece likes to help. I'm sure she wouldn't do it if she didn't want to.

Toni, I had to look up the decompression. It sounds as if things will improve a lot once Lucy has it done. What I read said that you should get a professional surgeon to do it. Who else would you get to do it? :? Lucy must be in a lot of pain but she still keeps going. I'm sure once her shoulder is done too, there will be no stopping her.

Kath, sorry to hear you have cellulitis. I hope the Flucloxicillin helps. Nice to know that the staff looked after you well. We have grey skies and rain here too. Even had to put the heating on for half an hour yesterday and this morning.

The hospice charity have just been to collect all the bags I had waiting for them. I've got an empty porch again. Well almost empty. I've got peppers and some flower seedlings growing in there. My oven has a double glass door. The inner one was desperate for a clean so I started on that and ended up doing the whole oven. Phew thank goodness that's done. Wish we could put our ovens in the washing machine. Oh and last night, I was sitting watching tv and on my laptop having a cuppa. I put the cup on the table then, for some reason, my hand flicked out and sent the cup flying on to the cream rug. I sat feeling a bit bewildered and then had to giggle. I've managed to clean it up and am glad it didn't reach my laptop. :o
