Oh dear, I'm so sorry Toni and Lucy. That ia NOT the news any of us wanted. To make matters worse, I missed the bus as I fell asleep. This time last year I would have been able to run and catch it. Not any more, sorry.
    a265.gif

Christine, I had a little go with my crutches last night - don't ask.

Joan, we didn't get any thunder either, nor rain. :splash:

I am now a member ofBlood Pressure UK. :D

Aiden, I hope your AC is still keeping you cool.

    Thank you all.

I'm still very upset doing some research into it all.

Kath I know you missed the bus, but you tried that's all that matters.

    :)

Lucy sent home from the academy after she broke down. Fast asleep now in settee.

I think the shoulder socket is called the glenoid....

Where is Aidan? I hope ok - he'd know what every bit is called

Joan, glad you have cooler weather. It's still too hot here.

Barbara, I hope you didn't get sunburned when you were stuck. I struggle with my weight too. I might learn something from the course but don't know if it'll actually help me lose weight.

Kath, sorry it's still not working with the crutches. I keep thinking I'll run again one day but can hardly walk home from work some days.

Toni, Lucy has been so strong for so long, it's not surprising that she broke down. Hope she is feeling a bit better now.

Aiden, I hope you weren't too put out having no power. It's amazing how much we take it for granted.

I've just watched Breaking Dawn Part 2. Silly me. I haven't watched part 1 yet. I'll need to watch it again anyway as I couldn't hear it properly.

My plant (the one that was trying to climb on my bed) has had a haircut. It used to hang it's head in the corner it was so heavy. Now it stands up straight and looks young again. It looks how I feel after a haircut.

I went to visit my dad this afternoon. I asked the nurse about him being diagnosed with dementia rather than Alzheimers (as someone told my sister the other day). The nurse said she knew nothing about that even though she gives him his medication. She got his notes out and checked right back and said he was diagnosed with Alzhiemers before he went in to the home and that hasn't changed. Another nurse came in and said the same thing. One of my sisters is going to phone his GP to see what he says then we're going to try to find out why each of us is being told completely different things by people at the home.

    Oh no Aidan!

    No A/C

    Hope you're ok.

Christine - Lucy is ok, but very sad. After the presentation (remember Lucy was in the top 10?) of awards on 21st we are going to have a chat with the staff at the Academy about the future.

I thought Alzheimer's disease was one of the things that causes dementia?? If that' the case then you'd all be right really.

    Take care now

Bah! Still no results from my DEXA scan. :( OH says if nothing comes tomorrow, then I'm to ring my rheumy on Monday. It's six weeks now. :?

Toni, I have posted a card to you and Lucy in your FB message box. Full of Kitty cats. I hope it cheers you both a little.

Oh no Aiden, no AC! :too-hot: poor you.

Joan, my BP is only a little high, but it can get over 200 if I'm stressed - and I'm always stressed just lately. I joined the charity for a year.

Got a garden parasol this morning. The first day with no sun. In fact i's started to rain.

Afternoon to one and all - just let me have a read back ( I know, we all tell each other not to as we get in a muddle, lol).

Christine I am sorry to hear of Dads diagnosis. There are a wide range of causes for the term dementia. Dementia was used for a long time, as it was diagnosed primarily in elderly people. Who then needed hospital or long term nursing home care. Many of the large Victorian Hospitals that were on the outskirts of most large towns and cities, had a large population of patients with dementia.

As with all things, research has broken the cover all term into many diagnosis, vascular, lewy bodies, early onset, alcohol induced, abnormal bloods.......It is well worth have a look at the Alzheimers Society website, as that explains a great deal and is exceptional in its findings and research.

I worked for a long time with care of the elderly, when I was nursing. My late Mum had what I would say Alzheimers, although I refused to let them put her through the tests, scans etc. As I said to her (and my own) GP, it is obvious that Mum has a cognitive impairment, we don't need to persue things any further.

I am glad that the escaping plant, has had a trim and is doing well :)

Toni, this is such a difficult time. The donor humerus transplant is certainly the option of choice, given the fact that the bone structure supporting the head of the humerus (glenoid, as you rightly said) is far more fragile than the pelvis. Plus with Lucy still growing as well, they would have to take that in to consideration.

It is a very specialised field, out of my remit to be honest, I am just a little old nurse, we only did a regular allotted time on ortho, beyond that is was a speciality once you had qualified. Ortho was a very different field in 1980, now I feel old  There is a lot of research and articles available to read on the WWW, which I am sure you will be doing. I can offer a lot of T and empathy, at what is a very difficult time, with college, operations, moving house, all coming at once. Matron's clinic is always open :) Do we have a moving date, or had I best not ask...... :?

No, we had to sit in the heat yesterday, nearly 6 hours and no chilling. I was just about ok, but very relieved when the power came back on. Today is a wee bit cooler, but very humid, so the machine is chugging away, thank goodness.

It has been horrid at night Barbara, trying to sleep. I cannot sleep with a fan on, plus the cats want to cuddle. I had to shift them away yesterday. I would have joined you by the window. Last night, the siamese decided that she would bark, in a cat like way, every time I stopped fussing her. By 0330 I nearly put her in another room, cats, barking, whatever next. Eventually we all settled..........
Don't worry about napping in the day, I could not get through without a lie down. I don't always sleep, but it does rest the bones a little.

Joan I hope you are ok and that the warmer weather has been favourable to those joints. Have you been out and about?

Do you have white coat syndrome Kath, with high blood pressure, I know my OH has, just mention a Dr or visiting the surgery and it goes through the roof. They did a 24 hour monitor and it was perfectly normal. Trying not to get stressed is a very difficult one to manage. Breaking the circle of stress takes some doing. I would be chasing the results of the scan too, 6 weeks :o That would be the same for us, we would buy a parasol and then it would rain none stop..............huh.

Went for coffee and scones this morning, not been out for a couple of days. The dryer repair man was coming Tuesday, they cancelled as he was sick, so they said what I heard to be Thursday, no, after waiting around I rang and they said the 13th. This dryer is becoming an epic adventure. Mind, it has been so hot, I have avoided using it until today. So, Monday, we will see if it works as it should, with a new brain.

Right, pus cat is glaring at me for more food. I will go potter, then T and shortbread, before a little nap. Hopefully it will feel a bit cooler, even a degree or two makes a whole lot of difference.

Hi to all who are around and about..........Take care XXXX Aidan

Toni, I hope Lucy gets some positive advice and help from the college. In the meantime, she should be very proud of what she has achieved so far.

Barbara, I hope you managed to catch up on your sleep. I don't like napping during the day either. I've never been able to fall asleep except when I'm ill.

Joan, it has been warm and dry all week but we are due rain for the weekend. I sometimes think the weather knows when most people are off. Hope you have a good weekend. How are your dogs doing?

Kath, six weeks is a long time to have to wait for your results. Hope you do get them on Monday. I fancy getting a parasol but don't have a table to stand it in and I don't sit long enough to justify getting one really. I'm sure you'll get to use yours soon.

Aiden, thank you for that information. I started going on the Alzheimers website and forums when we thought my mum might have had some form of dementia about 5 years ago. My dad was diagnosed by his GP about 2 years ago. The site has been very helpful. I'm glad you've got your AC back. I often have to decide to have the windows open and the blackout down so it's cooler at night or put the blackout up so keeping out the light and the cooler air. Either way, I don't sleep properly.

I thought I knew a bit about dementia but I got confused after my sister told me dementia was a totally different thing and worse than Alzheimers. Here is what the Alzheimers Society say which is what I thought. "Dementia is an umbrella term. It describes the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by certain diseases or conditions. There are many different types of dementia although some are far more common than others. They are often named according to the condition that has caused the dementia. Some of the more common types are outlined below."

Not sure what to do this weekend. Today I feel like staying home but Dr Who, the Tardis and some daleks are going to be in town. If I don't go, I'll be annoyed I missed them. Tomorrow is our town's annual gala. There will be stalls, a fun fair, live music and steam boat rides.

Got a garden parasol this morning. The first day with no sun. In fact i's started to rain.

    Oh Kath so typical!!!

Your OH is right chase those results! 6 weeks is too long!

WE loved the card you sent thank you so much - pusskins are our favourite :)

Christine - it's good you feel clearer about your Dad's health now - it is tricky and I think your sister who didn't understand rather than you.

Don't go into town!!!! Noooooo!! daleks?? no no no!! Very dangerous they are Dr who's ok, but they might exterminate you

We'll get Lucy sorted college want to help. They are hoping she can go into the salon voluntarily next year, which she'd love :) Fingers crossed.

Thanks Barbara Lucy has picked up a good bit now. I'm sure she'll be ok. I was still bawling on and off yesterday, but today it's business as usual :)

Had our dryer fixed (it was one of the indesit dangerous ones) and the chap who came is also 'under' (I love it when people say this!) Lucy's shoulder-Professor and couldn't speak highly enough of him :)

Our buyers are being complete nutters - reduced their offer by £25,000! I thought they were odd...they've never bought a house before. This is going to be a scary time. We are currently sticking our ground on advice of solicitor and estate agent.

    Why can't I have a quiet life??? :?

Aidan thank you for that information about Lucy - I hadn't thought of her growing still - she has been growing she dwarfs me.

So the donor graft is best then? It will take the longest but might even last forever....

See above re house move!! So stressful!

You were right to protect your Mum from labelling there isn't always a need for it especially when she had Matron to look after her :)

I agree with you a lie down is a very good idea whether you sleep or not. It was suggested to me by Elnafin when I first came on here.

Daisycat keeps cuddling up to poor Lucy (who feels honoured but hot!) at night so you have her sympathy!

Siamese are a lot like dogs aren't they?

I nipped on facebook this morning and Daisycat was looking for the kittens mewing on a video!

Hi Joan Don't worry the Academy are on Lucy's side they are as devastated as we are, but there's no way she can do next year because she can no longer lift her arm up enough (comes to just below her shoulder height now :( ), they are trying to see whether she will be allowed to come in voluntarily when she's well enough.

It's the awards ceremony the week after next - remember she was in the top 10 for one? I hope she gets at least 3rd that would lift her up no end.

One of the Mums who lost their child from the hospital has been in touch with me and wants to come and see Lucy when she has her hip op in the summer. - That set me off bawling again. Mind you Lucy has her daughter' photo by her bed and wears her bracelet every day too.

Gosh here I go getting all maudlin!!

    Love to you all

Morning Toni Mig Barbara Christine Joan Elizabeth Rose Kath and all who pop in for those calories free maple syrup pancakes that are piling up nicely.

I am glad you have found the Alzheimers forum and society a help, it can be a bit of a minefield trying to get an accurate diagnosis. Dementia does cover a lot of different forms of the illness. I would agree with Toni, not Daleks, they are not to be trusted. We try and avoid town at the week end, not that we live near a big City, but still, it all gets a bit crazy at Sainsb****, as if there is going to be a siege and everything must be bought up.
Whatever you decide, it will be the right thing. I favour staying at home, but I am a home bird (apart from going for coffee and scones).

Toni, you are not being maudling at all, you are being perfectly normal. You have every good reason to pop into the cafe and scream :D It clears the mind. I will sound proof the windows first though. Good, in a sad kind of way, that other parents keep in touch, we all share a common bond and need the security that friendship brings, in all kinds of ways, happy or sad.

The academy sound so lovely, I am sure they will do all they can to look after Lucy and accommodate any requirement accordingly. Let's hope Lucy gets into the top three at the awards. The donor humerus does seem to be a better option. Big decisions and a difficult time - many many hugs

How dare they offer so much less on the house :?: I had wondered why they seemed to be dragging their heels. I would now be on the ceiling, going round the light fitting. I guess the initial option is to tell them to *********, ooops, I said a rude word. But then the chain breaks and you loose the house you are looking forward to moving to, oh, what a complete pain in the proverbial. I wish it would sort for you. Standing your ground is the right thing, make out that you are not bothered one bit. There is no point saying don't get too stressed, too late I hear you cry............

A dangerous dryer, I read about them in the paper, setting fire. I think all dryers are prone to being dangerous, just by the nature of high heat and fluff not being a good mix. Glad it is fixed now. Fancy the man being a patient of the same Professor.

We await the dryer man for Monday - at the moment, he says, with whatever I can crossed :? it is working as it should be. First time we have had it running all week really, but, today, I am not hot and bothered, windows open, (cat screens in place), lots of air coming in, pleasant temperatures, big hoorah.

I was going to say I had a good nights sleep, but the cats woke me up at 6 7 and 8 - so Daddy was not best pleased. At least Cookie, the Siamese, didn't spend half the night barking !!

Joan I hope you have as good a week end as possible. That goes for all, Mig, Elizabeth et al.

I will go and potter some more, there seems to be laundry from one end of the bungalow to the other - I had a fit of peak and ripped bedding off this morning, cats blankets, the lot............now I need three washing machines, to catch up,:lol:s030.gif That orange wig does not suit me one bit :lol:

I beg to differ Aidan!!!

The Estate Agent and Solicitor are (being professional), but both clearly think our buyers are barking mad!!

3 weekends running they've had us running around after one piece of paper or another and worried - this weekend it's their turn. We've said no via the agent and they either want it at the agreed price or it goes back on the market.

    Watch this space :)

Monday will see your naughty dryer fixed.

I'm glad you agree regarding Daleks

The Academy have already had a glowing report from me to their head-office :)

Joan I bet people stop to stroke the dogs don't they? :) We've had rain since yesterday afternoon too a- and lots of it!!

Mig Thank you but don't be too nice I might bawl again!!

Sitting here with wheatie on my own shoulder!!

Sorry Toni and Aiden. I found a dalek hiding behind the Tardis.
    DSC_13501_zpsgajqmpcf.jpg

There was a black dalek on the other side of the room. Don't think they noticed me sneaking past. Darth Vader and the storm troopers were wandering round the High Street too. I also walked past Dr Who aka Tom Baker. Didn't realise it was him till he was past. Thought I'd catch up with him after I'd seen the daleks but couldn't find him again. Ian McNeice and Simon Fisher-Becker and Katy Manning were signing autographs.

Toni, I'm sure the college will do their best for Lucy. How can your buyers change their mind about their offer? I didn't think it was possible. I hope they come to their senses quickly. Fingers crossed Lucy gets in the top 3. I'm pretty sure she will. You are not maudlin. It's understandable you will be emotional. It's good to keep in touch.

Joan, aren't the dogs lucky to get a lift when they are tired.

Aiden, thank you for pancakes. Yum. I have the occasional day when I wash everything in sight. Only thing is I no longer have a drier so it's not a good idea. I think the wig is quite fetching.

Barbara, hope the rain clears away and you're not stuck in the house for long. What a shame you couldn't stay for the market. it must be so difficult when there are a lot of people around. I keep my mobile with me too. I tend to trip quite a bit and worry about falling.

Hope everyone is having at least a reasonably good weekend.

I walked right past Tom Baker and looked at him thinking he looked familiar but I wasn't expecting to see him. It was a minute or so before I realised. The others, I have to admit I didn't really know who they were. had to look them up when I got home.

A DALEK :o  -Christine you were lucky, it seems to have been disconnected thank goodness. Great Pic, the Tardis too. I had an inkling you would have to go see what was going on. Then you missed Tom Baker. :o Mind you, people often look totally different on the tv to off screen. I don't recognise the other names, it is years and years since I saw Dr Who. Glad you enjoyed the trip.

Now, this wig, it has gone - pig tails just did not work at all, plus I was singing High on a hill with a lonely Goat herd........

    a015.gif That's better.

The evil dryer has been playing up again, waiting till I leave the room and then stopping. Not that I want to do any more, it has gone warm again, very warm and humid. I think having super greens soup and garlic bread has not helped

You do right standing you ground Toni, they either want the house or not - but what a pain eh. We really need a different system in the UK, one like Scotland or France etc, where you have 7 days to change your mind, or you pay a hefty penalty to the seller. All this backing out at the last minute and lowering offers is just not helping the housing market.

    Hope your shoulder has eased.

Hope you managed to avoid any rain Joan, when on your outings with the doggies.

We have had some super heavy rain, turning roads into streams. Looking at the radar for Sunday we are in for a deluge at T time. Steady rain is good as it soaks into the ground but when it comes down like stair rods, it just washes away. Hope we get a storm, (sorry Barbara ) I love them and the cats like to sit and watch too. I wouldn't say that if I was on my own, if the electric went off I would be  spooked.

His Lordship is giving me looks from the kitchen, for another meal, so off I will potter.
Take care all, n night XXXX Aidan f025.gif

That Pusskin is definitely 'in charge' at your place Aidan!!

Or maybe it's the tumble dryer? (It's days are numbered!)

Like the haircut - I did like your hairdo, but the yodelling was getting a tad irritating

I am very relieved that you are sure that particular Dalek is disconnected...phew!!! Very scary there for a second or two...

    I'll come out now ;)

Christine you were very brave to go there at all  I hope you didn't go alone??

I wouldn't have recognised half of them - the kids have watched it recently, but not me....oh no :?

Have you seen anything of the froglets recently??

I found a whole load of froggy smilies!!

I think this one's looking for flies!

Barbara - the buyers are indeed barking. To be honest we stuck our ground on Friday and I hope they've had half as stressful a weekend as they have been putting us through the last 3 Fridays!!

I totally agree with you and just hope it all works out.

It's disgusting that they could be allowed to cause you so much stress that you lost a baby :( I am so sorry the....********!! You'll have to pick your own expletive - a don't like to break rules ;) I think it's the 'she' of the couple in this case too.

As Aidan says they ought to be fined if they drop out :(

Hopefully they won't as it will let their own buyers down.

    Watch this space....

    Love

    Toni xxx
