I finished Killing Floor by Lee Child[/b

I raced through it so it must have been good! There were some bits that I felt were a bit awkwardly written, not that "slick" I suppose but it won't stop me reading the next one! I had worked out who the last bad guy was, had a feeling early on, so was quite pleased to have outsmarted Mr Reacher!!

It is the sort of book that would break up a spell of Hillary Mantel type reading quite nicely! Easy reading, can do with half a brain - good with the way my head is at the moment!!

So ***/**** really I would give 7 out of 10 or 3.5 stars!!!

Suzygirl - I thought I had read Down River so just checked my journal and saw that I did! I read it in May 2011 and I wrote "whodunnit with family complications. Good". I only use one line in my journal so tend to be brief!!

Going to log into library now and order something new.

As Bruce would say "Keeeeep Reading"!

Thank you dear frogmella for your review, so that wasn't the best Reacher book? You are very clever having a book Journel so you know what you have read and what you thought of it! Very good!

So what did you get out of the library?

I'm close to finishing 50 Shades freed, it will be sad to finish the trilogy they certainly have been eye opening books!!

    50 Shades Freed -E L James

As the last book in the trilogy I was expecting something exceptional and I wasn't disappointed!! This book didn't have much of the S&M in it. But it did have more thriller in it that kept you hooked and wanting to keep reading. And when you thought the book was finished E L James gave you another little gift A look into how Chistain came to be 50 shades, a look into his childhood. And when you thought book was finished ANOTHER little gem of how Christian saw his first meeting with Anastasia that was fun to read. I'm pretty sad that my relationship is over with Christian Grey & Anastasia, I feel I have got to know them both well and now it's over. Roll on the movie of 50 Shades of Grey!!

    Rating - *****+

Further evidence of just how much you need a kindle - it stores your books and if you try to buy it again it tells you you already have it :D

Just finished Worth Dying For by Lee Child and am about to read chocolat by Joanne Harris

So chilly out there I think it has to be reading weather

I've just started reading The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey now this is not my normal sort of read! I can't decide if I like it or not but the story has me hooked! And the snow we have had makes me feel I'm in the book. So I'm catching up with the books of the month.
Talking of Book of the month we need to start thinking about Febuary's Book of the Month, if anyone would like to put their name forward and have a recommended book title please come forward. :)

I got 'lady of the rivers' by Philippa Gregory for Christmas. If I put it next to my bed I might find time to pick it up in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.

Finished and it was better than I thought. I'm not sure people on here would like it unless you're really into history but I found it well researched and well written. I still have to read the Red Queen in this series of books and know someone on here was reading The Kingmakers daughter which is also in the series.

Hi Elizabeth! It is me that has been reading all the historical fictions! I have read all the Cousins War series so far. Have you seen that there is going to be a TV series based on the novels? The Kingmaker's Daughter was good. It was another angle on the whole War of the Roses thing and so you end up feeling sympathy for a whole other side! I seem to remember liking the Woodville's more than the Beauforts when I read the Red and White queens.

I am reading The Thoughts and Happenings of Wilfred Price Purveyor of Superior Funerals at the moment and it is really good. Will review when finished!

I will look forward to the TV series. The Beauforts are directly descended from Katherine Swynford and I read a very good book about her too so I already have a bit of background information. I'm now reading about Catherine of Aragon-the females are much more interesting!

Just had an email from Waterstones about books of the year. January's book is Y by Marjorie Celona the review looks really good. Maybe we could read that if no one else has a better choice?

Just a thought. Or we could read Frogmrella's (?) recommendation of The Painted Bridge by Wendy Wallace?

I have just been looking at that e mail too!! The library haven't got Y yet but I will be ordering it when it appears. That e mail last year is where I got The Snow Child and a few others from last year. I am sure they expect me to buy the books not order them from the library!!

That is interesting Frogmella, a lot of the books looked really good. I am taking the Snowchild on holiday with me and The Painted Bridge as well as Worth Dying for, I shall be busy!!:lol::lol:

Toni, let me know if the book you are reading now is any good. I have packed about 10 books all very big and heavy!! Shall spend the journey pointing out Kindle advantages  I will be buying one soon, I hope!!

Also got James Cordens autobiography to read and Alan Sugars. My eldest son read James Corden's book in a day and a half and loved it, very funny!!

I shall be interested to see what you alll think of The Painted Bridge

I have finished The thoughts and happenings of Wilfred Price purveyor of superior funerals by Wendy Jones
It was really good! It is set in a little town in Wales called Narberth in the 1920s. Wilfred is a fairly innocent, mid twenies and an undertaker. He proposes to Grace at a picnic pretty much on a whim and then gets stuck in his engagement despite his best efforts to get out of it. Grace has her own secret and the book covers both of these stories. In the end I felt sorry for them both.
As I say I really enjoyed it. It was a gentle read but it kept me wanting more. (Two later than normal nights due to reading it!!).
    So ****/*****

Am going to start Gold by Chris Cleave now.

I hope you have a lovely holiday Suzygirl. Little bit jealous!

I haven't done this before but I would like to hold off on making The Painted Bridge Book of the Month and offer tkachev the chance to choose a book for Book of the Month if that is alright with everybody, as she is a newish member of The Book Club.
Hope everyone will be fine with this.

Oh yes, I think that is a good idea. (Even if I do speak partly selfishly because I have already read it and would quite like another suggestion  !!)

That doesn't mean people can't read it if they like though does it?!!

All members are welcome to read what they like, the Book of the Month is a sugestion, recommendation for you. It's not written in stone that you must read it. The more different types of book that are read and reviewed the more choice there is for members. That's what makes The Book Club!!

That is very kind of you but I'm not a big reader apart from history books. I feel I'd let you down with any choices I made

You wouldn't let us down at all. I personally would love to read a book you suggested. The whole idea of a book club is to make us broaden our horizons :)

    Hi Andrew

Lovely to meet you! I have read a few Jodi Picoult (because one of my very best friends loves them!). I am not sure I've read that one - not recommended then?
