    Hi!

Bubba - The trouble with type is that nuances are so easily missed! I was only joshing! Maybe I am missing your nuances here though! Could go on forever!!!

I agree with you, Toni, I would love to read a book suggested by Elizabeth. I have read some books because of the book of the month that I wouldn't normally read. I think that is part of the point, like you doo too! So, please, Elizabeth, choose us a book! I was nervous the first choice I made, but the two people that have read and reviewed so far enjoyed it. Nerves not needed!

Elizabeth please don't feel nervous about choosing a book, when I started up the book club I thought it wouldn't last 2 days, and I found the different books people have reviewed and chose for books of the months have opened my horizons and I'm thankful for that. So please don't feel nervous and open my horizons once more. :D

And Andrew don't think you have got away!! You can choose the Book of the Month for March if you like. So get thinking!! :)

Does it have to be a new book for book of the month? Because if not I'd recommend HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG by Pete Carey.

Based on the short life of Ned Kelly I found the whole book fascinating. His life was tough, punishment was severe and I felt a lot of sympathy for him. When he was finally hanged he said 'Such is life' and I did feel that summed up his 25 years trying to survive in a harsh Australia. You get to read about his parents troubled lives in Ireland and how they tried to be law abiding with a fresh start but that they crossed the line a few times trying to keep their heads above water. Slaughtering a cow to feed his family you wonder what else he could have done.

I would give it 5* because it kept the reader involved from start to finish.

No it doesn't have to be a recent titled book Elizabeth, so if you want History of the Kelly Gang by Pete Carey as your Book of the Month you can. Let me know if that's what you want.

I think someone else should choose as I don't read enough books to warrant choosing on behalf of all you avid readers. I'm sure you all have much better choices than I could give. My daughter has just finished writing a book so maybe when/if it is published I can choose that

It doesn't have a title yet and she's at the stage of researching who to approach next but seems to know what she is doing.

The History of the Kelly gang would appeal to men. Unfortunately my recent read ' Lady of the rivers' bored my OH and he gave up after the opening chapter about Joan D'arc!

I didn't know Ron had written a book. Well done Ron. Wulf who used to be on AC and used to teach us all Old English was writing one too. I'll have to check out he's getting on,

Andrew could you do a review on the book you read 'Second Glance' You will see how members set out reviews on books if you go back a couple of pages of the Book Club. We all would be grateful for that.

Also Could Elizabeth please do a review on the History of the Kelly Gang in the set way we do our reviews please. I would be very grateful for that also thank you both of you. :)

Thanks for the info Elizabeth. He has read the Genghis Khan ones by Coln Iggledunn (sp?) and enjoyed those so I reckon he would like it. I think the Phillippa Greggorys are fairly "female" so maybe that is the problem!

I just finished Gold by Chris Cleave
If you have read the other hand by the same author I think you would be a bit disappointed. This book was good but not in the same league for me. It is about track cyclists and their current lives with their back stories interwoven. I did enjoy it and finished in about 2-3 days.
    Probably ***/****

Hi all, am back from my holiday. Read lots of books.

My favourites were 2 of the Roy Grace series by Peter James, have got home and ordered the next few!! Also read The Ice cream girls and it was brilliant, can't remember the author though.

I did read Snow Child and enjoyed it. It was a novel full of emotions, the ending was poignant. Not my usual read but pleasant.

    ***

I also read The Painted Bridge byWendy Wallace will review at the end of the month.

Still got the Lee Child book to read.

Welcome back suzygirl!! You did get through some books! Thank you for the review on SNOW CHILD It does bring up many emotions. Look forward to reading your review on THE PAINTED BRIDGE. So what are you reading now?

My OH nearly made me faint on Friday evening he asked me to go on Amazon and order him a book!! Now my OH has only ever read 1 book since I've know him, he only ever reads the sports pages in a newspaper!! The book I'm getting him is called MY TIME by PAUL HARRISON it's an Auto-Biography of a BRISC car driver from when he got into it and charts his progress. My OH is BRISCA mad and goes to all the races at Coventry, Brandon Stadium. So it should be interesting and he will get me to do a review of the book when he has finished (May be in 10yrs time!).

I have just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Amy goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary and it looks like there was a struggle. Her husband Nick is, of course, prime suspect in her abduction. The tale is told alternately by Nick and by Amy's old diary entries. It doesn't take long before you don't know who to believe. I thought it was a good thriller, it kept me gripped and I was scared by how this could actually happen.

    ****

I've got two more to read now. Wonder and The Age of Miracles. Going to have a look and decide on the order!

Well, you can tell my back is bad by the number of books I am getting through - the ultimate distraction technique for me!

I have just read Wonder by RJ Palacio
It is childrens book but don't let that put you off.
Auggie (short for August) is about 9 and he was born with a terrible facial diisfigurement. He has been homeschooled so far due to the numerous surgeries he has had so far but is now starting at Middle school. The book follows his first academic year and is told by him and a few other kids that he meets/knows.
I thought it was an easy read, written in little chunks which is always good in a pain med haze!
I really enjoyed it, even the bit when I was crying this morning!
    so ****

I have picked up Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness today. It is the second in a trilogy and I have been waiting for it for ages. Expect me to go quiet for a bit as it is quite a big one!
