Frogmella, glad you have some books to distract you. Sorry to hear your back is flaring again.
I am reading I'll walk alone byMary Higgins Clark they are easy books to read. Also picked up the first book in the Game of Thrones trilogy which looks good, although not my usual style. Also got The racketeer byJohn Grisham to read as well as a pile of others!!! Which is good as I have the lergy and my joints are misbehaving.0 -
Ooooh Game of Thrones. It is my sort of book (and I have read 4 and a half of them and watched the first series - v good by the way) but even people who think it isn't their sort of book seem to love it. My hubby is now hooked too! I have bought the first five and slot them in around my library books. When I have finished this batch of library books I will finish the fifth one and then start ordering from the library again for my post op survival pack!!
Oh, don't worry that my back is bad - it is making my decision seem much more sensible now! Just two more weeks at work to go! That is my mantra at the moment!0 -
Sorry not been round for a couple of days food poisoning! Couldn't even read I feel that bad! Hope to chill as I still feel rotton and might get some reading in today, need to catch up. Hope your back feels better soon frogmella.0

. My OH is BRISCA mad and goes to all the races at Coventry, Brandon Stadium. So it should be interesting and he will get me to do a review of the book when he has finished (May be in 10yrs time!).[/quote]
I have to ask you Bubba - what is Brisca??? My husband often goes to racing at Coventry, but not sure what kind of racing - bangers something like that maybe formula2 (probably wrong).
Mine only looks at the pictures in CAR books too

Hey Toni, My OH wanted to know if your OH goes to watch the BRISCA racing or the Banger racing as there is a difference! Brisca cars are very different to banger cars if you look at the front cover of My Time you will see a BRISCA car. They are hard to describe! But they are very loud!0

I also love reading.
My current novel is Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir, which is about Lady Jane Grey.0 -
Hi there Mumof1
Welcome to the book club!!
There are a few folks who come in here who like Historical novels so you will fit in perfectly
Reading is a great distraction from pain I find and it's lovely to chat to other people about books you are reading/have read.
We do a 'book of the month' which most of us join in - I have read at least 2 books I would never have read without the book club
love

Hi Mumof1, I recently visited Bradgate park which was Lady Jane Grey's home. It was cold and I was being pushed in a wheelchair, so didn't get to see as much as I like. Am planning on going back in summer.
My books have come in time for the weekend so am planning on reading Looking Good Dead by Peter James which is the second in the Roy Grace series.
I finished the Mary Higgins Clark book and it was disappointing.0 -
That's a shame suzygirl and I am surprised too. Better luck with the Peter James eh?
Amanda - hubby is back from Scotland so I will get a good explanation later and let you know what he goes to see - i know often it's Coventry

(He has a 1973 Midget too if he is interested)0 -
Hi Mumof1. I really enjoyed Innocent Traitor. I have read all of Alison Weir's fiction books and enjoyed them all. I have also read all the Phillippa Gregory tudor and cousin's war series. I reckon I could do an A level history now!!
I think Toni is sounding you out about recomending a book of the month!
I look forward to seeing what you think of Innocent Traitor. My mom said that if you don't cry at that book you have a heart of stone!!0 -
Welcome mumof1! You are more than welcome to recommend a book for Book of the Month for March if you would like to do so? I hope you will embrace the Book Club and read lots of different books from different styles like we all have and found we have enjoyed some of them. Please when you read books if you could review them as we all do so we can see what you think of the books and what you rate out of 5 for them.
Well now I'm feeling alittle better I can get back to reading and hope to catch up as I've not read for a while!! Have a good weekend all!!0 -

My review for Worth Dying For by Lee Child
I've read the Jack Reacher series before though not in any order. I do enjoy them although they follow a similar format where this latter day Robin Hood comes to rescue the good from the bad and it's okay if he maims and kills along the way as they were evil people anyway!
I like the twists and turns and enjoy following how 'JR' is going to get out of the several sticky situations he's faced with but I always need a rest after I've finished the book as he leaves me quite exhausted!
For this Superman I give 3*s
Are any other book dwellers giving a review?

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
I'm afraid to say I have only got half way through this book and given up on it!! The book for me hasn't got going yet and the title 'caracter' has taken so long to come into the story I had already lost interest in it. I think this book is for someone with imagination, who can see themselves in the story and I'm afraid that's not me.
Rating:- **0 -
Sorry Guys
Half-soaked as Usual
Worth Dying for by Lee Child
My first ever Jack Reacher book. This book is set in a small out of town part of the US (I've already forgotten where  ). The people living there all seem afraid of a local family who, for some unknown reason, seem to hold all the power.
Jack arrives and 'saves the day' He has to rescue the reluctant inhabitants who seem anxious to maintain the status quo. Despite them almost sabotaging his efforts he is able to, not only free them from their oppressors, but find out what had happened to a child who went missing years before.
I did enjoy this book, but probably won't be reading another one as there was a tad too much blokey-shooting and violence for me
I would give it a ***

My bad
Caught up reading my Roy Grace series by Peter James. Just HAVE to finish before I can read the Jack Reacher book. Although in my favour, I have read Feb's book already.

Thanks suzygirl, I would also love to visit Bradgate park, hopefully one day I will do.
Frogmella, I love innocent traitor so far. I have also read two of Alison Weir's non fiction books, the Lady in the Tower and also The Princes in the Tower, both books very good.
I have also read all of Phillipa Gregory's books, I like all of them too.0 -
I just realised I hadn't downloaded this months book  (thanks suzygirl)
Wendy Wallace's book The painted Bridge
and it's not available on kindle That's the first time I haven't been able to get what I wanted. Managed to get a secondhand one from Am*zon anyway.....not too worried about buying it as I have a friend or two who will definitely read it.
Just finished Safe House by Chris Ewan because it cost 20p
Love
Toni xxx0 -
Hey Toni just brought Safe House by Chris Ewan after you mentioned it read a few reviews and for 20p had to get it for my Kindle!! Also noticed that The Life of Pi was 20p and had a look but suppose to be going to see it at the Cinema this week so would read the book after the film so not to spoil it! Going to start a new read today!0
-
It was ok for 20p Amanda - you can't fault that can you
I am reading Angel killer by Andrew Mayne until my book of the month arrives
Love
Toni xx
Ps Life of Pi was fantastic film. Oddly enough I think the whole thing was a metaphor. More convinced because I was chatting to a chap born in vietnam who came over here 25 years ago who experienced some very similar situations to the main character in life of Pi.0 -
Have any of our members read any Auto-Biographies lately? We don't seem to have any reviews for Auto-Biographies. I do have a pile of them to read that my Dad brought me a few years ago still, so might read one after reading Worth Dying For. Also some reviews for cook books would be good as well.
Can't you tell I had a rough night last after my domestic with OH!!0 -
I have got James Corden and Alan Sugar's auto's to read. I have got a huge pile of books to read, but my arm is so bad, holding them hurts. How ridiculous is that. Had similar before, but not this bad  Trying to build up a good case for a kindle lol
Toni, its a shame I could have sent you the Wendy Wallace book. :roll:0
