Yes, I have just finished The Painted Bridge by Wendy Wallace
It is about a Victorian wife tricked into an asylum by her vicar husband. The "treatments" doled out in those establishments were purely barbaric - if they weren't crazy when they went in it is hard to see how they would ever stay sane. Anna - the main character - tries to prove her sanity but, of course, this is passed off as hysteria by the proprietor who needs the money from her stay. It is a tense read at times and I really enjoyed it.

I have The Killing Floor ready to collect at the library so will read that next week!0 -
Toni, I will show your post to my hubby
Helen, that sounds a good read, I shall look out for that. The 'treatments' were awful, so glad that has all changed.
Reading Rage by Johnathon Kellerman at the moment, have read a few of his with the same characters and enjoyed them.0 -
I'm reading, quite apt it happens, Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley, I'll review it when I've finished.

What is that book called Toni? Always on the lookout for a good read.
I have my copy of January's book of the month.0 -
Yes, Toni, what is that book called?!
I read another last year about a special needs girl sent to a home in the fifties I think. Called Grace Williams says it Loud by Emma Henderson. That was a really good one too. Another that makes you surprised at the depths of human nature.0 -
I missed Chocolat Toni, a shame because it's a good film.
Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris
This was a revisit to this book for me and I wasn't disappointed with it. I will say that I didn't realise how flowery it was until I read it again but I still enjoyed it because it was unusual.
4*s from me.

Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris
I enjoyed this book it was very unusual and different, a bit overly descriptive for me, however the book would not have been the same without the descriptions. It helped to create the atmosphere.

Looking forward to reading January's book of the month. Worth Dying For by Lee Child. I also am going to read The Snow Child.
Toni, eagerly waiting for you to tell me what the book is called!!
Helen, I shall look out for that book.
So, who would like to suggest a book for February? Have a think everyone.0 -

I also enjoyed Blackberry wine It was a book I might not have chosen myself (thank you book club!) but I am glad I read it. I agree it was a bit flowery but none the worse for that!
I'll say ***/**** .
I have picked up The Killing Floor today. I will read the Jan book of the month eventually, but hope it is OK to work through the series to get to it? I do like to read things in order!
I hope bubba feels better soon. (())0 -

Just to say Frogmella that I find with the Reacher novels you don't need to read the series as the books stand well on their own ...........just in case you don't want to plough through all the other 14 novels  I have just read a few randomly and they always make sense.

About to start worth dying for
Back tomorrow

Ok! Thanks Legs! I didn't know if the "back story" would cause my brain to explode if I read it out of order. I find that happens with PD James sometimes. If they are good though I might be happy to read all 14! I have read the first 100 pages of the Killing Floor since yesterday.... If I have my spinal fusion I am going to need a massive pile of books to keep me occupied!0

If you do have your spinal fusion you could be propped up by books either side, no chance of you getting bored or falling over then

Nice one legs
I've started and so far so good

Frogmella, if you have your fusion, we will help you sort out your reading list!!! Mind you the Jack Reacher series will keep you going for a while!!
Toni, did you enjoy shatter? I am reading The Cult by Anita Burgh and it is quiet intriguing. I am sorting my book pile for my hol in case I don't get my kindle. I have been having a look at them and the basic one is no good for me due to the contrast as the eye nurse advised. I would need the Kindle white which is pricier, but looks fun.
Amanda, I hope you feel better soon. The flu bug going around is a nasty one, and the horrid damp isn't good for the bones either. (((hugs)))0 -
haha legs! I think I will need so many books that you could well be right about being propped up with them. At least if the pile is high I won't need to bend over to pick them up!!
Suzygirl - I will take you all up on that promise! I keep meaning to order Shatter from the library - I will get right on that!
I am still waiting for the sequel to "A Discovery of Witches" to come in. I am so excited about reading that one. Oh and Stephen King is releasing two books this year too! I have to read Mr King, read them all so far.0 -
Do hope you are enjoying book of the month - Killing Floor by Lee Child.
Since Christmas I have been dipping into Miranda Hart's book Is It Just Me?
Talk about laugh! Hubby was getting a bit worried - he thought I had been on the bottle
So glad her new series is now on tv - more laughs this evening.
Happy New Year everyone.

Sorry Linda, my mistake. All three of us here are reading a Lee Child at the moment and I got confused  . I'm blaming it on this dreary weather here in Essex.

Sorry everyone - I made a mistake in my earlier post. Should have said WORTH DYING FOR by Lee Child.
Luckily Lindalegs spotted it quickly.

Thanks Janet. I can relax now.

Guess who's back? Feeling alot better! While on holiday I managed to finish 50 Shades Darker and now I'm 80% through 50 Shades Freed both of course by E L James So nearly finished the Trilogy!! So I will give you my review of 50 Shades Darker. And Once I've finished the last book I will catch up with the books of the month I'm behind on!! Great to be back! And Happy New Year to you all!!!
50 Shades Darker by E L James
This book took you more into Christians life, you learn about his aweful childhood which brings him & Ana closer, of course there's still alot of kinky f***ery as the caracters call it for us to enjoy !! And the book also gives us a storyline that takes a dark and sinister twist which is a real page turner! I could not put the kindle down I was reading from 8.30am - 4pm I could not put it down!! If you read 50 shades of grey you really must read this one! And the ending will have you reaching for your Kindle or computer to buy the next book!! I'm not giving much away just an outline of the book so not to spoil it for you!!
RATING:- *****0 -
I didn't say it yesterday and I should of as my head was scrambled with things I needed to do and flu!! I want to say a huge, massive grateful thank you to Toni (frogmorton) & suzygirl my two right-hand women who without them there would be no Book Club!!! So THANK YOU!! xxxx
So how are everyone? And what's everyone reading at the moment?0
