I have just bought 4 new books, including the kingmakers daughter which Frogmella previously mentioned. All 4 are based on some aspect of medieval and Tudor history. Now to decide which one to read first,

I have just finished The Fear Collector by Greg Olsen

It was about a policewoman whose sister disappeared before she was born, a present day case and the mystery of her sisters disappearance merge. An interesting story and easy read.

Hi bookies! Well I've made a decision while being off my feet and after looking through the top 25 books for Mays Book of the Month so it will be Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn you can get it both in paperback and on Kindle. It looks an interesting read about marriage and deception with lots of twists in it. I hope you all enjoy it.

Still off my feet, both legs, knees and ankles are swollen 3x as normal I look like the Michelin man from below the waist! And the lump in my arm from the ripped muscle has gone down slightly (hence happier using laptop more now!) and has been replaced by a bright purple bruise!! Have been sleeping sitting up with legs raised on pillows so not sleeping very well so been doing word searches (finished one book full) and have started doing them on mobile! Can't read much because of being on Oro-morph as well as normal M.S.T tablets. Got to put order in for more Oromorph and M.S.T today when speak to my GP. So that's me at the moment!

Good to hear from you Bubba. Sorry you are still in such a bad way though. Gone Girl was good. I was gripped by it, I am sure you will enjoy it! Although I was disappointed at the ending!

I have just finished The Hungry Ghosts by Anne Berry
It opens with a Chinese girl's ghost on Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation and how she came to be a ghost - she was raped and murdered by a Japanese soldier. Then we switch to the main story all about Alice Safford. Alice is the third daughter of Roger and Myrtle and they live in Hong Kong whilst it was still part of the empire. Myrtle is a horrible woman and is awful to Alice - as are her sisters really. She ends up being "haunted" by the Ghost of the Chinese girl. This ghost both adds to Alice's woes but also protects her. The story is told by lots of the characters - the ghost, Roger, Myrtle, the sisters and other people. We watch as Alice grows up in this awful family and then moves away.
It was a good story but not gripping enough for me. Having said that I really felt dislike for Alice's mother!
    I will award ***

So sorry frogmorton that you have already read Gone Girl may I suggest A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen I'm close to finishing it now and have truly enjoyed reading it, I will be sad to finish it. And will do a full review when finished but if you like or even love cats I 100% recommend it.

Slowly starting to get on my feet again, still getting some pain but the swelling is easing a little. Finding getting upstairs very hard so do it slowly! Arnie & Willow are not helping my healing as they are at the age of running riot and tripping everyone up! Arnie is a mommy's boy and loves cuddles from me. He is the size of a fully grown cat now and very heavy so wears my arms out!!

Don't worry about it Bubba - it is a good book and I am sure you will enjoy it! It wouldn't be surprising that some of us have read the books of the month given our reading habits!!
Glad to hear your swelling is getting better. My cats try and kill me sometimes but the chickens are even worse! Oh and one of the dogs has been known to send me flying on occasions! Still, we wouldn't be without them would we?!

I've downloaded 'Gone Girl' so does this mean that I have to get 'A Street Car Named Bob' as May's book of the month?

Just trying to clarify as I don't mind getting both, I'm a bit confused, must be my age  :lol:

No Linda, the Book of the Monthis Gone Girl I only suggested A Street Cat named Bob for if you had read Gone Girl. So don't go worrying thinking these 2 books are for Book of the Month! I would never do that!!

I read You Deserve Nothing by Alexander Maksik
It is about a teacher and his students in an international school in Paris. It is told from the points of view of him and a couple of students. One is a girl and one is a boy. He is a passionate teacher and quite a lot of the story is about the lessons he teaches. The rest is about his impact on these two particular students. Essentially the boundaries between staff and students blurs in the relatively informal school. Early on two staff attend a party at a student's house for instance! He strikes up an improper relationship with one of these students and we watch the fallout from three sides.
I enjoyed it. It was easy to read. ****

A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen

I have to say I have so enjoyed reading this book, it is a heart warming book that will have you laughing and crying and just wanting more which hasn't happened to me in a long time. The basic's of the book is James (a man who is living hand to mouth) finds this cat outside a door and after realizing the cat is homeless he takes it in and names it Bob and the story tells of their up's and downs and growing relationship that touches everyone they met. I truly recommend this book to everyone I know I've never done this before but it is a uplifting story that will touch everyone's heart. A must read!

    Rating: *****

James & Bob can also be found on U-Tube where people have filmed them! It's so wonderful to see them on film after reading the book. Also Bob has his own twitter page!! I'm now following him!!

River of Destiny by Barbara Erskine

A ghost story. This book was set in three different times; Anglo Saxon, Victorian and Modern. Zoe and Ken move to a quiet barn conversion in Suffolk, much against Zoe's wishes, so that Ken can indulge his competitive streak through his love of sailing. Left to her own devices, Zoe finds that she has strange dreams and visions, and it seems as if the barn's past is coming back to haunt her. Each time storyline is gripping and I found I couldn't put this book down. Not really frightening only if you're reading by candlelight in a power cut
