Glad you both are enjoying your books, I wanted to give you all a heads up that we will need to get our thinking heads on for Book Of The Month for April soon. Hope everyone has a good weekend, I'm going to be spoiled rotten all weekend starting from Today!0
-
So you should, Bubba! Happy Birthday!!
Will have a think about BOTM.0 -
My Dear, I wanted to tell you by Louisa Young
I read this book thanks to Toni's suggestion (I think!). It is set from just before WWI until just after. As said before it is part history part romance part social commentary. I really wanted to know how it was going to turn out for all of the main characters - not just the two mentioned on the cover. It isn't really a book you enjoy so much as the subject matter is pretty grim but it keeps you hooked. I reckon ****/*****
I have got some more books to collect from the library today but need to ask for an extended loan as they will be due back whilst I am on my holiday!! Two weeks today I will be about to start walking up some more of my beloved fells!
I haven't done a very good job of finding a BOTM. Been busy with work and a bit stressed with things there. Come on the lottery!!!! I will try and have a look over the next couple of days.0 -
I have collected Lies we tell ourselves by Robin Talley and Sisters of Treason by Elizabeth Freemantle. They both look good but I am going to start Lies we tell ourselves first. It is going to be about a young black girl starting at what used to be an all white school in the USA back just after the school became mixed. I reckon this is going to be another uncomfortable read! Mind you, sisters of treason is about the Grey girls and we know how that turned out....0

Sorry not been around as you might know was sick on Wednesday and drained from it yesterday. But back now! Will finish 'Endal by tomorrow so will do review over weekend. Will need to sort out April's Books Of The Month by end of next week so please post any idea's. Have a good weekend everyone!!0
-
Hey Bubba! I was just checking in (post marking) to say that you weren't very well and that I would be around and there you were!!! Glad to see you!
I am enjoying my new book. Might have some time for a read in a bit once I pack my work away!!0 -
Endal - How one Extraordinary Dog Brought a family back from the brink By Allen & Sandra Parton
I was expecting this book to be sad at first it is a little but as the story grows it becomes an uplifting book. It's a true story and you can find video's on U-tube of Allen Parton & Endal. The story starts with Allen Parton who is a Navel Lieutenant in the Gulf War. When one day he was involved in a car accident while on a day off which left him with serious head injuries. after many months in hospital he was able to come home but due to his serious head injuries he couldn't use his legs, talk or remember most of his life including his wife and children. It took 5 years of hard rehabilitation but he still couldn't walk or remember anything of his life before the accident. Sandra his wife had to deal with the fall out of the accident including her husbands depression until one day she took Allen to Canine Partners where she worked as a puppy trainer and one puppy named Endal took a shine to Allen and slowly a relationship started to build between Allen & Endal. Eventually Endal became Allen's assistance dog and a magical relationship started that brought a broken family together again. I totally recommend reading this book. Since starting to read it I have looked for anything with Allen & Endal on U-Tube to learn more about this relationship and it's so amazing to see it on video. If you haven't read it please do give it ago.

I'm going to hang fire starting another book till we find what will be the Books Of The Month For April please remember we are now having 2 BOTM so will need 2 recommendations when suggesting. And we need to have it all sorted by the Friday! Hope everyone had a good weekend, not long till Easter Bank holiday!!0

I am really enjoying Lies we tell ourselves by Robin Talley. If you liked The Help then I reckon you will like this. Not so much because of style but because of subject matter. I just checked and it is 99p on kindle atm so how about that as one suggestion??0
-
I've just read the description of the book Frogmella and it sounds great thanks for the recommendation! so:-
No.1 Book Of The Month For April is 'Lies We Tell Ourselves' By 'Robin Talley'. And if you are wanting to have a 2nd Book Of The Month For April is Dead Simple By Peter James
So there it is! If you decide to read either or both BOTM hope you enjoy them and I look forward to reading your reviews! I'm going to get stuck into 'Lies we tell ourselves this afternoon.0 -
I hope you enjoy it too, Bubba! I will have a look at your other suggestion too.0
-
I just wanted to let you know of a cool app for anyone who has a Samsung phone. It's called 'Kindle for Samsung', it's an app that gives you suggestions of any new books and also gives you a free book every month from a choice of six books. Sometimes you get lucky and spot a good one from the six available! But it's a great little app and is free to download.0

I finished Lies we tell ourselves last night. I really enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy it too as a BOTM. I won't review yet - remind me next month please!0

I DID like the Middle child although I thought the last paragraph downright silly!!
I bet that makes you all want to read it too :bunny:
I hope Frogmella is having fun reading in the Lakes (not actually IN them ) and Amanda I hope you are a good bit better. I know you've been rough lately

Sorry for not being around for a while, this flare up is giving me a right battering! I had to give up on 'The Lies We Tell Ourselves' I just couldn't get into it. Maybe try again when I'm better. I've started on 'Together Apart' by Natalie K Martin which I'm enjoying. Hope everyone is having a cracking good Easter Break, sorry for the corny line!! :happye:0
-
Haven't had the patience to read much this week because of this bloomin flare! Now I've had the steroid injections today hoping to just be able to snuggle down over the weekend and really get into the book I'm reading!
Hope everyone else has a good weekend, it's suppose to be really nice this weekend and be the warmest days of the year so far!! Happy reading!!0 -
Sorry to see that you are feeling rough Bubba, and hope the steroid injection kicks in soon.
I have had a great holiday although we have nearly killed off our little black lab, Ozzy. He is 11 now and has been suffering with OA for many years. It doesn't stop him doing much but the big walks up the fells are a bit much for him now. We have to have at least a day off in between now. Poor thing. Think he is glad to be home. Doesn't help that the has worn his pads down on the stones so his feet are sore to boot.
I have been too tired from walking to read much but have nearly finished Sisters of Treason.0 -
Glad you had a good holiday frogmella but heart goes out to poor Ozzy, sounds like he needs to a doggy spa for some rest and recuperation! It does get hard when our furry children get older and you need to help them by giving them time and making life easier for them. Ozzy sounds like an amazing dog by getting to 11yrs old before medical problems start to sneak up on to him. Please give him a little cuddle from me.0
-
I will give him a hug from you, Bubba! He is feeling a lot better now. We have worked quite hard to keep his weight down and activity up so that his arthritis doesn't take too much of a toll. He has been on glucosamine for years and a painkiller/anti-inflammatory for a couple of years now. He does well for an old lad!
I finished Sisters of Treason by Elizabeth Freemantle
It follows the other Grey sisters (Mary and Katherine) from Jane's execution. As with her last book this was a good read and I did enjoy it. I award ****
I have started The Submission now. It is about a committee choosing a memorial for the 9/11 twin towers site. It is good so far.
Hope you are all enjoying the sun.0 -
Hello Fellow book-worms!
I hope everyone is well including Ozzy!
I had to pop by today as I am reading a book, which has got me gripped.....
A Mother's Story by Amanda Prowse
It's so well written....about a great woman who has everything....has a much wanted baby and then gets post-natal depression.
It begins in a psychiatric hospital I think and it is clear she has probably killed the baby, but how and why????
It's certainly stopping me getting on with life!!!
Mind you I need to take a rest after the last few weeks
Love and ((()))
