Ooh, that sounds good, Toni! If a bit disturbing?? It does sound like you are due a rest after all that fundraising!

Ozzy is all better now. We are probably going off for a walk in the peaks today or maybe shropshire hills.

    Enjoy the sun.

Hi everyone, wanted to post after a few days off with feeling yuk & had a migraine again!! I'm glad Ozzy is feeling better, it is a worry when your furry baby gets sick.
I'm going to give up with Together Apart It started off really good but now after half way through it's just not getting anywhere. I like books that flow not just going over the same thing for several chapters. So I'm going to go through my pile of books and find something there to read!!

Well I know it sounds like groundhog day but it's that time to find the Books of the Month for May If you could post some recommendations so we can decide I would be very grateful. If I say we can give it till Friday and then make a decision that should be enough time to find 2 books.

Have a lovely weekend bookies the weather is suppose to warm over the weekend!! :D

I am glad to hear that Ozzy is on the mend Frogmella and hope that you got your walk :)

    I finished 'A Mother's story' it had a 'good' ending :)

Amanda - I wholeheartedly support you abandoning that book

    g010.gif

Life is far too short for wasting on books you 'dread' trying to read.

I hope the migraine hasn't left you feeling too yuk though :?

    Right books

Going to look in my wish list:

The Pocket Wife by Susan Crawford? along the same lines as ASA Harrison's 'The Silent Wife'

or maybe we need something different 'The good girl' by Fiona Neill is about a 17 year old who's embarrassing video gets online. A story of the modern day world and social media.

Mind you if anyone knows of a good 'light read' I might not say no ;)

    Love

I finished The Submission by Amy Waldman this weekend. It was about choosing the memorial for where the twin towers were after the 9/11 attacks. It was fiction though. Basically a jury had to choose form many submitted designs, all anonymous. You can guess that the one they chose was designed by a Muslim. The proverbial hits the fan and so the story unfolds. It was quite a good book for making you think, I have been a bit too tired for thinking though so I don't think I did it justice. I reckon ***/****

I hope Bubba is better and back with us soon. Shall we go with the BOTM that she suggested?
I am now reading the Peter James that was suggested last month. Now that has me turning the pages rather quickly!!

The two of us sounds perfect Frogmella.

I don't think I'll be reading The Submission anytime soon :(

I'm reading Orkney Twilight by Clare Carson ATM :)

Right off to make sure I have 'The Two of us'

    GET WELL SOON Bubba :)

I have started reading Remember me this way by Sabine Durant. It was just there on the shelf in the library when I went to return the Peter James. It is a thriller with a touch of the Sleeping with the enemy about it. It is tense and has me gripped! I hope my next reserved book comes quickly because I don't think this one will last me long at all! :D

Hi Guys, Just popping by to thank the lovely Frogmella for taking over for me while I'm recovering. My head hasn't been in the right place for me to read since it happened but hope to get back to reading very soon. I will try and pop in now and again to say Hi until I feel back to my old self again!! :(

Thanks for popping by, Bubba! I am sorry you can't read at the moment. I hope that that part passes soon! Please look after yourself, we will keep the club safe!:lol:

Remember me this way by Sabine Durrant
This was a tense page turner! It begins as Lizzie goes to the site of her husband's fatal car crash from one year ago. The story then unfolds, mostly from her point of view with odd extracts from her husband's past here and there. It soon become apparent that their marriage wasn't the best and maybe more is going on. Lizzie has a dog and I spent all of the book worrying if it would be ok!!
Anyway, there are some twists and turns as various facts come to light. I thought it was a really good book so ****/*****

I have collected Station eleven by Emily St. John Mandel today. Looks intriguing - will update soon!

I also realised I should probably have reviewed Dead Simple by Peter James. It was the usual whodunnit fare. A good page turner. I found his use of "munching" rather than chewing etc a bit irritating, oddly! I did enjoy the book and raced to the end! Would read more in the series. ***/****

    Hello Amanda and Frogmella

I am reading Orkney Twilight really quickly ATM before tackling out BOTM :)

I hope that you will soon be able to concentrate enough to read Amanda ((()))

Frogmella - I am exactly the same if a person has an animal in a book or on TV I worry so much about them that I get distracted

If you just tell me - is the dog ok? I might give that one a go!

I don't think I can really tell you, Toni, as it would spoil the tension. However I think you would be ok......
Is Orkney Twilight good then? Do I need to shortlist it?

That is as far as I will go!

I read some of the "life in a day" from the back of the magazine from the Sunday paper and it is a bout a woman astronaut. Turns out books are "too heavy" to take into space (i thought everything was weightless in space but anyway). That's astronaut definitely out as an alternative career for me then!! :D:lol:

Hi everyone, just popping by to see how things are going. Been reading when I can't sleep usually around 4-5am in the morning. Hi Bubba, good to see you. Not so good to hear that you are having to read at that time of the day! But better than no reading I suppose....

I am enjoying Station eleven and learnt that it has won an award today. It is set mostly about 20 years after a bad flu virus that wipes out not of the world. There are some bits set in the run up to the virus too. It is good. Less horrific than The Stand which was a Stephen King book set during and immediately after a similar flu. Although, I LOVED The Stand!!

Hi everyone, the book I'm reading is starting to get good after a slow start so being able to enjoy it now a little more. I'm glad everyone is enjoying the books they are reading! And a last the weather is getting better which means I will be able to hit the conservatory to read with a few adaptions of the seats as they are a little low for me at the moment!!

Hello Amanda and anyone else who pops by

I am pleased your book is improving and you are now enjoying it.

Yes it is great that the sun is starting to come out :)

When my back is bad I get my husband to 'double up' the seats on chairs so they are higher. It helps :) I hope things are beginning to ease for you?

    Started my copy of BOTM

    Love

Hollywood Bride (Hollywood Girls Book 1) By Alison Kervin
This book started off slow but I'm glad it warmed up and I stayed with it! It's about an ordinary girl named Kelly who meets a mega popular and very handsome Actor Rufus who has women falling at his feet and they fall for each other. But Kelly is happy in her normal life, living in a small flat with her to friends will she be happy living the life of the rich and famous making new celebrity friends or will they pull the couple apart and can Kelly, her friends & family be driven mad the paparazzi trying to get photo's of them for glitzy magazines. This is an easy to read fun book that would be a good read for a holiday. I did eventually enjoy it!

I was watching 'Paul O'Grady show' the other day and they had Author Martina Cole on there talking about her recent book 'The Good Life' which sounded really good. I know we have had Martina Cole books as BOTM before. It sounds a good read and I thought it could be a good book for June's BOTM Have a read of the description and see what you think. Hope everyone has a good weekend, mine will be recovering from my recent fall my right wrist is black, blue & purple bruised and the bruising is still coming out!

Thanks for that review Amanda :)

As for the Amanda Cole I think it's a good idea she writes consistently good books and you can't usually go wrong with one of hers. June sorted then ;)

I have just bought Diana: Her true story in her own words by Andrew Morton in the kindle daily deals for today if anyone is interested.

A lovely day today perfect for reading (and gardening)

We went walking today - Ironbridge and Much Wenlock. Two tired dogs and a couple of tired humans!

I finished Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel in bed before we went (bliss!). Hester always wakes us up about when I get up in the week, which is 6.20 to go swimming, so I often get a couple of hours lying in bed reading on the weekend! Every cloud has a silver lining! Anyway - I really enjoyed the book. It is set before, during and after a flu virus wipes out most of the Earth's population. The story follows a few people and there is no main lead really. In the end some of the story lines link together. There may be too many time periods for Bubba but it was a really good read. Makes you think about what it would be like if the lights went off for good. I award *****

I have picked up Rise by Karen Campbell as my next read. I wanted to get the BOTM but it wasn't out in real books yet! I think Bubba's choice for next month sounds good. I have been adding to my shortlist on the library website recently. Getting ready for the summer!!:lol:

Frogmorton I have read the updated Diana: Her true story By Andrew Morton awhile back on Kindle I think I did a review on it. And it was very interesting.
As for Martina Cole The Good Life for June's Book Of The Month I'm glad that was easily sorted! If we are still having 2 BOTM we will need a 2nd choice so if anyone else has an idea for the 2nd choice let us know. We still have another week before it's needed.

Thank you Frogmella for your review, I'm also stacking them up for summer, due to my recent tumbles and damaged spine we have had to put booking our holiday on hold till late Summer. So will be spending the beginning of Summer at home recuperating so will need plenty of books to read!
