My book is good, although I am not sure yet who the witch is or even if there is one....
Good day for reading - all this rain! Although I am planning a bit of a cooking session - curry and a cake I think. Better make sure I don't mix up the ingredients!!
I can Frogmella I think
I managed leek and potato soup myself that was it! but I did add curry powder to it - yum

I had wondered where she was - I wondered if she had been enjoying her stair lift too much!!
I think I know who the witch is now - but it could be a red herring. I am enjoying it, but there are multiple "main" characters so not sure it would be up Bubba's street.0 -
Too many characters and jumping back and forwards isn't to our Amanda's liking is it?
Glad you're enjoying it though
I think she should be getting her router today all being well then she needs to get her husband to set up I expect.
Dentist this afternoon so will get some reading done no doubt

Did I say I was reading
Will you remember me by Amanda Prowse?
I am enjoying it BUT the main character was called Poppy Day before she married her husband and is now, and has been for years, Poppy Cricket.
Every other sentence seems to be someone or other calling her Poppy Day, (as in Poppy-day I think), as a nick-name and it's REALLY winding me up!!!!!!
Ggggggggrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!0 -
Toni!!
Any news on Bubba?0 -
Yup!!!
Frogmella you will not believe it STILL no router!!
Maybe tomorrow????
Off to France will be coming in if wifi is ok
Love and ((()))

Sorry been away bloomin B.T anyway here at last is my review on:-
The Good Life By Martina Cole
Have to admit I really enjoyed this book, the characters where solid and the story flowed really well. Cain was a great main character gang leader, hard man and the fact he fell in love with a sweet lady like Jenny even though he was married to Caroline who was one hard woman who would not role over and be quiet. Cain's luck would run out eventually so it would make life harder to divorce Caroline and be with the woman he really wants Jenny. I thought the book was great and I couldn't put it down.

If a BOTM hasn't been sorted for July then I think it will be a free pass month!! I'm just glad to be back online!!0 -
I've chosen my next book to read it's called Six Years by Stephanie Wittler it's a roller-coaster of emotions and some saucy parts type of book so looking forward to it.
My good friend is an author and is close to finishing her next book and it's a very personal book to her as it's based around her own life and she is amazing lady who has been through a lot and come out the other end a strong caring woman. And I wanted to ask in advance if it could be a BOTM when it is finished and published?
Hope everyone has a good weekend, we are going to try and book a holiday over the weekend fingers crossed!0 -
Go for it Bubba - I am open for any books!
Looking forward to a day of reading in the sun/shade tomorrow. Worked like a demon on my housework today to buy myself the day off tomorrow!0 -
The Vanishing Witch by Karen Maitland
This is set just before, during and after the Peasants' Revolt in 1380 in Lincoln. It is a multi-stranded story. The main (ish) one is about Robert who is a wool/cloth merchant. He begins the book married to Edith but meets a mysterious widow, Catlin, and takes a shine to her. To be fair to him nothing happens at first. But then Edith becomes ill and Catlin moves in to take care of her. Then Edith dies.
Running alongside this is the story of Gunter and his family. Gunter is a boatsman and has two kids and a wife. They are poor. When a new poll tax is demanded they can't afford it. They only just about make ends meet.
There is also a mysterious friar who appears and tries to warn Robert about Catlin and her daughter.
There is an undercurrent of magic and witchcraft and every chapter begins with a quote about witches etc.
I enjoyed the book and really wanted to know what was going to happen to everyone - especially Gunter and his family.
I reckon ****
I have picked up The Humans by Matt Haig. I loved his Last Family in England so hope I like this as much.
All this sunny weather is a good way to start my holidays!! Hope I get a load of reading done.0 -
Really enjoying The Humans it is funny and sad and makes you think. It is also easy to read. Nearly finished it so went to pick up All the bright places from the library and got the new Stephen King straight off the shelf! Looks like I won't be doing much next week.....0

The Humans by Matt Haig
I loved this book! An alien takes over the body of a human as he has a mission to complete. The alien is puzzled by humans and finds us interesting so writes a guide/book about us. Along the way he learns about love and starts to understand us. It is a book to make you think. It made me chuckle and I really wanted to know what was going to happen. There is a certain amount of jeopardy too. ****/*****
I have started the new Stephen King - Finders Keepers today. It is a sort of sequel to Mr Mercedes.0 -
Hope everyone has had a good weekend and have been dodging the storms! Inbetween watching Wimbledon I have managed to read a bit more of Six Years I'm starting to get into it now. So now I've been hit with this flare up I think I will be reading more!!0
-
Finders Keppers by Stephen King
This book is a sort of sequel to Mr Mercedes which Mr King released a couple of years ago I think. It begins back in 1978 with an elderly author being burgled and murdered. There is then a bit around about the time of Mr Mercedes where Pete Saubers' Dad gets injured by the maniac from Mr Mercedes. He ends up unable to work, the family is down on their luck and it looks like the marriage is about to fail. But then Pete finds the trunk containing money, and notebooks, stolen from the author. It can only all go wrong really!
As always, I enjoyed this book. Not sure it is one of his best but still I read it quickly and wanted to get back to it every day. So ****
I now have 2 more to read. One by Celia Imrie and another from my shortlist called All The Bright Places.
Nit achieving much so far this holiday. Been pretty lazy. Need to snap out of it and get some things done really!
Hope all well. Hope Bubba getting a bit better.

Hello Guys! Had a crazy couple of weeks! Explained all on 'Living with...' page. Set a side relax & read time in the day so starting to get through Six Years Hope to have it nearly finished by the weekend. Flare isn't helping with fatigue and pain. Woke at 4.30am this morning with left knee lock and it hurt like a wotsit! At least having steroid injection this week coming.0
-
Good to see you Bubba. Sorry that you are going through the mill so much. I hope your book helps take you away a little bit, at least. (())0
-
Good morning all! Just want to wish all a good weekend! The sun is trying to get through so hopefully it's going to be a sunny weekend. Perfect for chilling and reading!!0
-
It has been a nice weekend! I have been barbecuing and trying to work out what camper van I want to buy! Also a little bit of reading.0
-
I went to the Doctor's last week to see the vampires and left with more than a plaster! I also collected a nasty throat virus, so that has knocked me for six and yesterday I had to have a veg-out day on the settee because I was totally rundown. Hoping to day to get back to reading because I've started to enjoy this book.
Could I ask everyone to get there thinking caps on for BOOK OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST I'll be on holiday near the end of August so I will have to ask the 2 frogs to assist with The Book Club while I'm away and also take over sorting the BOTM for September.0 -
OK! I will start thinking! I am really enjoying my current book - All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I hope to have time to finish this afternoon so expect a review shortly!
It sounds like you could really do with a holiday, Bubba! I bet you can't wait!0 -
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
This was a YA book, but don't let that put you off! It is about Violet and Finch who meet on the edge of the school bell tower. Violet's sister died in a car accident nearly a year ago and Finch seems to have some sort of mental health issue. They begin a friendship. He helps her get over her sister's death and she makes him happy.
I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and made me think a little bit too. I award ****
I have no begun Not Quite Nice by Celia Imrie. It is good so far. If I had known about it before I might have suggested it for BOTM because it is quite easy reading so far.0 -

Welcome back Toni!! Okay review for you all!
Six Years By Stephanie Witter
This book had a slow start but got better and better as it went on, It's about a young lady named Brooklyn who had lived her whole live in Riverdale and was doing fine till her old friend Nolan arrived back in town. He had known her as a little girl just his friend before he left his 'little B' but now she has grown into a beautiful woman after six years. They both felt something but after six years apart and being friends could they be together more than just friends. It was a good read getting to know the characters and cheering them on to get together. I recommend it if you like love stories with twists.
RATING:- ****/*****0 -
Has anyone got any idea's for BOTM? I have one that we could use for August's Book Of The Month. Unless anyone else has any to offer? Are we still having 2 or has that been dropped? We need to get this club up and working or it's going to fall apart.0
-
I have just had a look at my library shortlist. The books I fancy reading are:
The Bees by Paull Laline
The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
Jus what kind of mother are you by Paula Daly
The girl in the red coat by Kate Hamer
Alice and the fly by James Rice
Are any of these any good?
I am really enjoying Not quite NIce, I think you might like it Bubba!0
