Okay, 'The Books Of The Month for August' are to be 'What kind Of Mother Are You' By Paula Daly & 'The Laws Of Gravity' By Liz Rosenburg. I hope everyone will enjoy which ever they choose or both! And hopefully the weather will get better so we can sit in our gardens and chill and read! :deckchair:

Cool! Good choices Bubba! I will order them later! No time for reading in the garden though. Got picnic to make to take to Edgbaston to watch the cricket on Thursday!! Hope the sun shines for us then! :sun:

As some of you know I joined Amazon Prime and with that is the free lending library. I have taken a look but haven't borrowed any yet but there are a good selection of books. When I do use it I will let you know how I get on. :sunny:

I am still going on Not Quite Nice and have collected The Two of Us that finally came into the library!
We had a fab day at the cricket! Glad we went Thursday and not Friday!! I also went to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels up Hanley on Wednesday night. Been a bit too busy to read enough. I will endeavour to rectify that this coming week!! ;)

    Morning!!

    I have decided to read

'What kind of Mother are you' for my BOTM. Good choices both of them so I had to really think about it :)

Amanda I hope you are getting exited about your hols now - Paul took Lucy to the racing at Coventry last night so I visited my friend who gave me two books to read (manual hard-backs ;) ).

Frogmella - Lucy was offered tickets to the cricket by the Teenage Cancer Trust, but decided, since she'd already been to the tennis, to let someone else have a go!! I am so glad you had a good time :)

I thought you would probably be having to start planning soon, Bubba! :)

Thanks, Toni, the cricket was good.

I am getting a bit bored of the Celia Imrie but don't feel I should quit just yet. Could be because I keep having days off reading doing other things!! Been doing a bit of online work clothes shopping just now, I hate buying work clothes - they never mean fun!!

Hi Guys Had a ruff Sunday and yesterday so going to start sorting things my end (drugs, toiletries, make up, jewellery) today not all in one day! Over next few days. Clothes pretty much sorted. Phil has still to get the suitcases down. Cat sitter booked and he has been round, taxi booked. So things have started.
Going to use BOTM as reading for holiday. Glad that members think they are a good choice.

I read all the time even taking my book/Kindle to the you know where!

I am currently reading "Playing for the Ashes" by Elizabeth George. Seems appropriate since you went to the cricket at Edgbaston.

Love my Kindle as it is easier to hold than a paper book. I also listen to a lot of unabridged audio CDs. Currently, I am listening to the "Barchester Chronicles "and from "Doon with Death" by Ruth Rendell.

It is really good to find this thread!

Welcome alumina to the book-club :)

I love my kindle very much too although I still read manual ones donated by friends ;)

I also love audiobooks, but never scary ones!!!!

    Thank you for the welcome.

I love crime books but am not keen on ones where the crime is too "realistic" as it is scary then. My daughter also loves crime fiction but we read totally different authors.

This is an ideal topic for me and I am ready to try books others are reading and enjoying.

Huge Welcome alumina to The Book Club, so good to have a new member. I have a Kindle Fire and love it. I do still enjoy reading paper back and hard back books but 90% of the time I use my Kindle.

We do read all sorts of books and have 2 Books Of The Month which you can read, either or both. We do ask that after you have read a book if you would review it for us. You can see in posts how we set them out.
Welcome again and hope you enjoy our little club! :sunny:

I saw that you had had a rough couple of days after I posted here the other day. I hop you are feeling better, Bubba. I'm sure a holiday is just what the doctor ordered!

I finished Not Quite Nice by Celia Imrie last night.
I quite enjoyed it but found that I got some of the characters mixed up. There were two women, both with awful daughters and I got them confused!! It was essentially chick lit for the older generation as it was all about a load of retired expats living just outside Nice - hence the title.

    Alumina

I am the same like different ideas from others. I discovered the Agatha Raisin series from here - perfect as audios funny and not scary :)

I have chosen 'What kind of Mother are you' for my BOTM I can't remember the other one, but I think it's on the page before this.

Hi Amanda :) Hope you're ok? You too Frogmella.

I am back from hospital where Lucy (youngest daughter Alumina) had her spinal chemo today. Kindle ALWAYS comes there with me as she has to lie there for an hour afterwards :)

    Love

I love Agatha Raison too. She had a replacement hip so I have something in common with her. Hopefully, that is all!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I can see I shall like it here.

Agatha Raisin is very funny especially her obsession with men! I have read some of the Hamish Macbeth books and but didn't enjoy them as much as Agatha Raisin. The setting in Sutherland was wonderful though.

See I'm not so sure about Hamish Mcbeth either :? .

Agatha just has me in stitches because she's so honest yet such a fibber!!!

Managed a bit of reading today my BOTM is an easy reader :deckchair:

Review of Friends to Die For by Hilary Bonner

I initially struggled to get into this book. A lot of characters introduced quickly some with similar names (well ok on the first letter being the same Greg and George, Ari and Alfonzo and Michelle and Marlena ;)
It centres on a group of friends who meet for a drink and meal on a Sunday at 'Johnny's' restaurant. An unlikely, but interesting bunch.
Once I had that problem sussed it was an enjoyable read though with 'incidents' happening to people within the group. These occurrences gradually get nastier until Michelle, a policewoman, asks a colleague to investigate when one of them is seriously injured.
I found myself suspecting each of them in turn almost for various reasons, red herrings nicely inserted, before sussing out the culprit just before the end.
The 'twist' was a good one...and couldn't have been anticipated.
Overall a good read once you've got into it.
4**** from me for anyone who likes a good thriller.

    Love
