well.. I've just been in to see him and he's sat talking.. I cannot begin to tell you how relieved I am. I know he's far from out of the woods, we have to wait to find out how much damage etc has been done and infection is at a very high risk. BUT, to see him awake so soon is wonderful...
We were told it wouldn't be till st least tomorrow morning.
Message for DD.. When you get home and read this forgive me for not telling you whilst you were away... I just wanted you to enjoy your weekend hun.. Xx

Oh Tony
What a time you're having. I'm over the moon your dad has pulled through and to even be talking before the estimated time is so wonderful. There is nothing new I can say that everybody else has not said.
If I had a young healthy body I was going to say I wish we could swap bodies as I can just about imagine how yours is right now. Mine is always c**p even though I can't make myself a cup of tea. You've hardly rested and I hope now you may find time to sleep just for a bit, evenif it is to recharge your batteries.
May I also ask if you've decided if you'll be able to attend your appointment as you were suppose to go back home and don't know if you're still doing that?
As for writing things on the forum I wish I could do the same but I always find myself crying and hands stiff so unable to but I think it's just you writing down what is going through your mind isn't it?
I am sending you not forgetting your mum and Janet big (((((())))) and wish your dad well and fast recovery.
Please, please try to rest. I know everybody has been asking you to do that and me too.

Oh Tony what a time you've been having. I do hope that things have settled down somewhat and that you are able to get some rest and recharge your batteries. My thoughts are with you and your family and big girly Derbyshire hugs are coming your way(((((hugs))))).
Take care x Dee x0 -

No wonder you're exhausted, Tony! Anyone in your situation would be, even without our old enemy, Arthur, to cope with in addition to everything else. It must be a great relief to you that your Dad was able to sit up and talk to you so soon after his operation. The signs are all positive, so I hope he will make a good recovery.
You take care of yourself now, and get plenty of rest. (That's an order!)

Hi Tony,

Hi Tony
How are you today? I hope you slept well as you can and are refreshed. Any new news? Are you still going to your appointment? Thinking of you and your mum and Janet.
Big painful (((()))) from me mate.

good morning folks.
We had a call last night to say he had been moved back to the surgical ward.. I may have already said this but can't remember..
I think they must be very happy with his recovery as he was meant to be in intensive care a couple of days then high dependency after that..
I'm just happy he's alive.. Everything else is a huge bonus..
We are off to see him at two o'clock and will be able to collar a doctor for a chat.. We haven't had a chance to speak to anyone about the actual operation yet. All we know is that there was only a 31% chance of him actually surviving.. Very frightening odds.
We are in skeggy town, my brothers wanted to look in done shops before going to boston. I've come to rest in the car. Brother is driving today and them them two are off straight home so me and mum will get the bus back later..
Hi Babs. Thank you hun.
I've rearranged the appointment YET AGAIN lol. So it's now a week tomorrow I'm off for my ultra sound scans at chapel allerton.. Half one I think.

That sounds good, Tony. I hope the news is good this afternoon too. Glad you're not driving. Take care now. (())If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I've read back and caught up. Ye gods, what a ghastly week-end you've all had, nobbut stress, tension, fear and anxiety. I am so, so sorry but pleased to hear that your Dad may be on the mend and I hope that lasts. As for your not telling me - you daftie, you could have and rest asured I would have stayed in touch but I admit I needed to conserve my battery. I send hugs all round to those that need 'em but mostly to you. ((((())))) DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

thank you Dearest Daisy
We actually spoke to the surgeon yesterday afternoon.
When they opened Dad up they found that his large bowel had actually died.. Somehow the blood supply to it had been cut off, they don't know what caused it.
So they have removed it..
They obviously had to place a stoma bag on him. That will be permanent.
I can't believe that they did not see this on the ct sound scan they did last week..
I think somebody has made a huge cock up.. But that question is for another time.
At least he is alive..
And he's back on the surgical ward, chatting away. He is coping extremely well.. I think too well, and believe it will hit him very hard at some point.
Mum is distraught as she was hoping that the bag could be reversed, we all were, but that was before learning how much bowel had been removed...
He's gonna be in for another couple of weeks maybe.
The hardest part is over but he's still at risk from infection etc.

Oh Tony I am so sorry, the last I heard was you dad was awake and talking ...then hes had to go through this, thank goodness they have found the cause at last...like you say how the hell did they miss it.
I do wish you all well and hope that very soon things will get better .
And you look after yourself in all this xxLove
Barbara0 -
Oh Tony
To think that they were going to discharge him and the agony he was going to be in with the dead bowel still inside? What a cock up they've made but atleast a relief they found out before it was too late.
Thank God your mum rang the helpline and I'm thinking your dad was notn too pleased at the time but it has been for his own good through and through.
It's true what you're saying, the stoma bag will affect your dad later for sure and as you're also saying he is alive which is the most important thing. I'm happy everything has turned out as best as it can possibly be under the circumstances.
Did you manage to attend your scan today or you postponed it?
Thinking of you and your family.
Babs xxx0 -
I'm ashamed to say I missed the second appointment lol
Now arranged for next tuesday..
I saw him again today but he was rather more tired than yesterday but a he's been doing so well so far I'll forgive him..
I drove back to skeggy and dropped mum off then I went and just sat on the beach for a while before having an ice cream and a paddle.. Joyous... I really needed it.
I'm chilling back at the caravan now. Another early night me thinks lol.
Tried last night but didn't actually sleep till around two.
I really hope everyone knows that I'll attend any and all pocket duties still..
