Hope you have a lovely time, Elna - what are you going to watch?
Did I read smewhere on here that Lola was poorly? Is she better now? I think my computer was bringing up old posts!
Well, I have done the housework and washing and after a quick sandwich, me and the girls are heading off into town for clothes shopping... and to get some ideas for Nina's, of course!

It was not my choice but I am sure it will be good, Voice of the heart with Karen Carpenter and the blurb says, "with superb vocals from Carole Gordon and outstanding talent from the brilliant Blue Jeans Band, singers & dancers, it will be a “sparkling” night to remember".
So I wait to see!

No bopping in the aisles, Kath, but great singing and well known songs, in our age group anyway!! A good night.
Thank you so much for the lovely photo. You will never want to come back home!

Elna is setting off this morning, for a family BBQ at SIL's. I love meeting up with everyone. Nephew and wife are both 40 this year and have given up their jobs, put their belonging in storage and are off travelling for one year on a motorbike. Good luck to themThe happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday with my two daughters and son, we went to Skipton, where my parents were visiting on a coach trip. Didn't know my lovely dad was coming, was just expecting mum, so got a lovely surprise. The weather was very sunny and warm, we had a look around the market and had some lunch. A lovely time was had by all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.0

Oh Brenda we were there too!! We arrived mid afternoon, was'nt the weather lovely? We missed the little craft fair they were just packing up as we got round to it. We had a look round the market and the little side streets. The cobbles took their toll but I always enjoy my time there. We called in for our tea at a pub on the way back via Colne. I'm shattered today but it was so worth it.

I visited a craft centre today, and there was a display of owls ( real ones ) I got to hold a tawny owl on my hand, and it was really lovely. It allowed me to stroke it gently, and it's feathers felt really soft. I also saw the world's smallest owl, a pygmy owl, which was only the size of a blackbird. Fascinating :!:0

Elna got lots done on Monday, in the garden. Mowed the brown lawn, difficult to envisage, but it does look better. Did more cutting back and ended with a good sweep up.The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

Oh Ironic, what a coincidence, wonder if our paths crossed at all. Do you live in the area, we're in Leeds, but mum and dad had come from the North East. We did have a lovely afternoon, glad you did too xx0 -
Just pulled 2 GF rice bread loaves out of the oven. They will keep my son in sandwiches for lunch at work for a few days. I will take them on the train tomorrow when I go to see Lola.

HI Elna,
if you have a good recipe for GF bread would you share it with me please? my friend gets hers on prescription but has terrible problems with it. I've tried out recipes for her (she's not a confident cook at all) but most have been disappointing.
thanks

Hi Wonky
I would not say it tastes particulary good, rather dry and heavy but perhaps that is how all GF bread tastes!! Unless Ben is being polite, which I doubt, (but he does eat anything! ) he says that it is fine and does not crumble when sliced. He has found this with the bought GF bread which is also very pricey.
Rice Bread
500g Rice Flour
2 tsp Xanthan Gum
1 tsp Salt
2 tsp Sugar
2 tsp Quick Yeast (two sachets)
550ml/18floz Warm Water
3 tbsp Oil
Mix in the warm water, sugar and quick yeast
In another bowl mix the rice flour, xanthan gum and salt
Beat in the yeast mixture and stir well
Mix in the oil and pour into an oiled 1kg/2lb bread tin
Smooth the top and leave to rise for 90 minutes
Cover the tin with metal foil
Bake in a preheated oven for 50/60 minutes.
Oven Temparatures
220 degrees C/Fan200 DgreesC/400 degreesF/Gas Mark 7
ps I do not find that I can "pour" into an oiled bread tin! I plonk the mixture in and then smooth the top with a knife or similar.
I cover the tins lightly with clingfilm when leaving the dough to rise in a warm place.
Luv

most of the GF bread we've had has been crumbly, dry and really awful. She tends to toast hers as it is better that way .... but is trying some that a fellow coeliac recommended.
I'll give your recipe a go when I get some of the gum ... I know where I can get it now as I found a shop so can try out the bread and also the scone recipe I found on the bbc food site.
I'll let you know how it goes - won't see her for a while as she is on hols.
thanks

Hi Wonky
The gum definitely helps. I use my ordinary simple cake recipes, (ie cherry, sultana, coconut, date) use the appropriate GF flour, add the gum and the cakes taste good and cut ok.
Happy baking!
